Not sure what happened there. But its the same in financial markets in a way. But what do you do when "events" happen like I suggested and even big amounts get taken out?

Like right now you could say back the draw at 1.52 because there is a huge backer at 1.54. BUt then at 5.02pm NZ time the forecast changes and all of a sudden the draw is worth 1.65. Your bid at 1.52 gets taken and now you are out by 13 ticks?

Some intuition is at work telling me when the time is right and also that comes from watching/trading thousands of markets and viewing the trading software ladder......having read the book Thinking Fast & Slow I believe in intuition.

If it runs through you which does happen occasionally, you just got to swallow it......I've shut  my trading software so dont know what is happening right now.

Yeah I read that recently, the Kahneman book isnt it? Nice insights in there. I trade on intuition or fast thinking as well since I was a lad. Works well in equity markets for me and ok on here too, especially on BF and cricket. It pays to know probabilities and odds. That can be a real eye opener. Thanks for the replies. Makes sense and you were smart to say earlier "its too risky for me now" so you obviously know when the time is right and when it is not. Ok time to read some half yearly reports and presentations released recently. See you guys tomorrow (after tennis if its on).

you don't have quarterly reports in NZ? Which stock exchange do you invest in?
I spent 75 minutes listening to Marvel's quarterly report last night, just before the start of play.

Sorry, that joke was misssing the word "in".

Did you see Bang spike to 400 just now? Draw came in for a bit and went out again. Could be like this for hours.

I saw some fishy movements but sadly my 100 bucks back of bangers at 230 didn't get matched.

I have traded this like a clown and am down 300 bucks.

The Bangles price is crazy. I keep backing it.

Whoever wins the toss will bowl. Who knows what the pitch will be like but the likelihood is that overhead conditions will help swing. The team batting first could well get done for less than 150.

At the prices, I know who I would rather back whilst keeping a green on the draw.

we do have quarterly reports but most companies have announced their HY to 31 Dec during February and I am catching up. THe radar is looking interesting. If that precipitation would bugger off we could almost get a full days play. If it hangs around who knows. I have to travel to wellington for tennis shortly, and at this stage I think our matches will be on.

I am slightly concerned about the state of the outfield after heavy and consistent rain. Tyco, do you remember a test with similar amount of rain and how much time it took them to get back playing?

Hi DT, I do not off hand. I do know in the memory banks that the Basin dry's very quickly, it has taken me by surprise at times. But like you said, a heck of a lot of rain has fallen, even another 15mm overnight so that is the unknown factor. But to be fair it was a lake yesterday morning at 10:30am and later at 2pm the lake was completely gone and only a few puddles remained. This while it was still raining the whole time, just a lot less intensly.

BUt another big if... if a persistant puddle stays on the field, they will not go on and that is the unusual uncertainly factor with today's play.

Trading like a clown as in red all over your face? I feel the same. Massive Annual Comedy Convention-sized Bangers green and an uncomfortably large, hopefully temporary, red on the draw.

I always sem to get wrong-footed by weather.

I still haven't posted that thing I was pondering to do with what you said about Pecker's tip. It's to do with Kelly criterion and compound growth. My complication with it is finding an end-game scenario where you don't retain an advantage by keeping a large green for last minute trading but instead allocate it across the odds and leave it. Once you stop trading the Pecker thing of "paying yourself" accummulates quite quickly compared to taking lots of small losses hoping for a big win, but it's not a rigorous study, just a back-of-an-envelope thing. I'll work on it a bit more.

Pecker missed my question twice yesterday (or didn't want to answer) but if he's like many of us it's only Test cricket that seems to be consistently profitable out of all formats and maybe all sports. Some common folk do well in Politics and Specials. Not sure about the Football or Horsey folk - lots of BS and people flogging systems, though I expect a few must genuinely do well from ordinary everyday trading, as opposed to being Bot-Meisters. But Test cricket seems to be the only avenue that works for a lot of ordinary folk. Do any of you lot do anything like as well out of the other formats?

As is that cloud (the yellow one) that seems to be growing in-situ on the radar and Wellington with all the hills around can have a very micro climate and can do that to you. So its a big case of buyer beware today one feels.

It's one of those days where we could get a whole days play or no play whatsoever. It is very dark and grey and wet in the sky. Where I live the radar is showing no rain but I just went outside and there is some water falling from the sky and dark threatening clouds around. BUt that is 30 miles north of WEllington. Ok thats all from me, will see what has happened once I am back from tennis whenever that may be.

That would probably be ideal as it would keep all three prices in check. If NZ bowl well first up, it will be NZ v draw.
