275 layers must be reaching for the rope, desperate stuff from the Lankans

300 matched at 60s

By:
250 was matched at 20s, some sore arses about
|
|
By:
Yes very poor Sri Lanka, but Jimmy Anderson has done this on many occasions, batted away, with someone else belting the ball all round the ground. Sam Curran has been sensational again, taking England from an average score up to quite a good one.

any idea about srilanka,s first innings score here?anyone?

Last wicket stand could be a spot fix...horrendous display by Lanka

I have never seen anything as bad as this!

The 3rd umpire is mirroring the Lankans, changing his mind on-air

By:
obvious it bounced up into his hands

This wicket is playable, not a death trap or minefield or spitting cobra......it might be in time, 300 is par
And as I was typing that ^^^ a wicket fell so maybe its a load of bollocks. |

Every other ball has potential of wicket.
Exciting stuff |

By:
have to be one of the worst bowling performances of all time if england allow this suspect sri lanka batting line up get anywhere near 300 i would have thought
|

Top up draw lay on this little turner at less than 10/1 - yes please. Great day for me, the draw moved up and down a few ticks between each evenly spaced wicket :-)

Buttler scored 51 out of his 63 in sweeps. Conventional and reverse.
It was one the best innings I've ever seen. He weighed up conditions, realised the benefit of the sweep and played it to an incredible level. |

I have always thought Butler could succeed at Test Cricket. I like the way he thinks and improvises. I also think I am know record stating that Stokes had the technique to bat 3. He certainly has the application but will need to practice more against off spinners bowling from wide around the wicket as will Root with left arm orthodox around the wicket. Stokes clearly needed to ores fuller length and Root turn his shoulder round more to mid off. Both these things just need practice.
Burns looked good. England are getting there. What they do not need to do is fit in big name players and big ego's into the team. Just play the best players in the right positions. I do not see a way back for Johnny just yet. I play Root, Stokes and Butler ahead of him. Foakes is a better keeper and I think may also prove a better batsman. I don't dislike him and think he has the ability. He needs to change his game again Nd show more application and thought to the teams situation as does Moen when batting. I really fancy England to win this i side 3 days. The only potential doubt us if the pitch " dies " on day 4 and becomes easier to bat on with SL facing a 300 odd target. I heard that the grounds an thought the wicket was drier than he wanted and thus may not be a standard Pallekelle pitch. I think if will break up and SL are looking down the barrel. We shall see tomorrow. I topped up at evens and am averaging about 2.06 England and very happy with my position. May take a comedy bet on SL if the match develops. Will keep draw red |

I have thought for some time that England are gradually getting together a decent team with good backups.
Ed Smith seems to be doing a decent job-I particularly liked the way he got Buttler and Rashid back in to the test team. England seem to be selecting the team on the conditions rather than on what is perceived to be the best XI players. Some players who considered themselves as automatic selections are finding out otherwise and just because players get injured and miss a game they dont just waltz back into the side. Some players, like Woakes, who has missed out here will have a big part to play at home and on other tours. Likewise I dont think Vince has played his last game. |

Root winning 7 tosses in a row has distorted the picture of how good we are.
|
|
By:
certainly a big advantage batting first in relatively low scoring games. 4-1 obviously flattered england in the summer. might have been a different story if india hadn't let england off the hook in the first test

Topped up at 1.51 after the first couple of balls this morning. This game is going to pattern. We sow the seed, we grow the seed! I have spent a lot of money on seed over the years. I see this as payback!

Big Eng lay for me, these pair will go deep
|
|
By:
If you count the nightwatchman as 1/2 a wicket , this is not a bad position Lanka are in.
|
|
By:
Poor bowling this morning for me. All they have to do us pit 6 balls on a good length the pitch will do the rest. I would like to see a pitch map they have been to short and to full.

Eng are toast here, no answers

Whispers must be worried after his 1.51 top up.

If I had been swayed by the punditocracy of ex pros on the gravy train I would be up $hit creek in a barbed wire canoe right now.

Can't believe Eng were matched at 1.33 after the tail end wicket.
Won't see that price again |

After all the talk last night England have looked very ordinary this morning.

Eng matched at 2.56 just before that wicket!

I noticed that, they hardly moved in the last 10 mins & were definitely shortening before the wicket
Still needed the ginger ninja to hit one stump though |

WD has the Lankans on speed dial. Remember he has a Lankan accountant!!
