He was always going to play as said.

Curran dropped is really taking the Mick but all the hoo ha over Rashid has this face saving exercise in motion.

Why not just play Curran in place of Jennings?

And Rashid's selection continues to be funny but I do feel at some point he is going to play a big role.

England are going to get slaughtered on bunsens in Sri Lanka. Rashid, Moen and maybe even Leach will play a big role hopefully I could see Broad and Anderson not being required.

Harsh on Curran imho but c'est la vie. His confidence is sky high and he will strive to force his way back in next summer. Maybe he should try opening for Surrey!

It's a sickener for Curran and English cricket. Stokes should have played Down Under (before he was charged) but Strauss bottled it.

He then picks him when he was charged. He plays a week before his trial and a week after. 'Sod you Sam, that'll serve you right for taking your chance. Here's your yellow bib, now carry some drinks for  the next 3 weeks.'

Its funny when I think of England XI, my brain automatically grays out the top two spots. Its Cook and Jennings who should be generating controversy with their selection but its the guy who was the MoM that gets the axe.

never mind stokes there's just no cricketing logic to leaving out curran. could make a case for 5 or 6 others before him

Brainless and cowardly from the selectors to leave out Curran

The problem is India are so bad, Eng are going to win again and no one will be able to ask any questions. Half the team is dubious selection. But wins.

Who would you rather have in your team Stokes or Curran?

I know who I would have and yes it is unfair!

Lay the batting side us my new strategy! This might be an opportunity too if India bat first The zen blush price will crumble. Then if will collapse when India get skittled and that is when we could make a killing! Big lag of Engerland and hope the weather and ball also favours India. Could come down to a last innings shot out!

That or leave it out Rodney!

I honestly think it's a mistake to replace Curran with Stokes. It should have been Stokes for Pope.

I like Pope, but he shouldn't be at 4. He looks a bit of a dasher, like Vince, who should start his career at 6 (where he bats for his f*cking county) and get some runs under his belt while learning how to bat at this level under reduced pressure. Blooding new batsman higher up the order often places an unbearable burden on them to achieve so early. If he'd been at 6, which is where he (and Vince) should be, replacing him with Stokes is an easy decision.

I also think there's a question of bowler's workload in this tightly scheduled series in addition to Curran's line and commitment to bowling full offering something different. I don't see anything wrong with 5 seamers if one of them is a genuine all-rounder and the other one almost there.

And probably not Stokes. I can see exactly what the ECB are going to do, which is drag out the disciplinary until after this series has finished and then suspend for the two winter tours.

And to conclude my quickfire Saturday morning salvo, I now think that a side that is trailing in series should be allowed to decide whether to bat or bowl first, i.e. no toss. But if the score is level, it's decided by the toss.

Agree re toss.

A fifty fifty situation that results often in much more inbalance than fifty fifty.

Still cant understand Curran being dropped, a clanger indeed.

Still cant see Rashid having any impact with this test side.

Still cant believe how under appreciated Moeen is.

This side is weak at the top, weak at the bottom, weak in the middle.

It does not need to be..

India must be present today for the day.

think the wind is going to stop this ball from swinging (i think it's air stillness and air pressure that contribute)

We'll see what happens. I suspect Virat's stuck a rocket up his team's jacksie and 1.59 is too short on england.

im praying for a nice solid turgid start for the sake of test cricket....and the draw will drop
no draw back to lays, just a draw lay if it gets down a bit
