Thinking about switching to the draw or a massive Eng lay.

Nothing in that deck for Eng, think they will drift hard when that pic circulates

Definitely made for a 5 day test. Starting on a  Wed, which I think is crazy anyway, they want to ensure it goes to the weekend

They have gone to extraordinary lengths in watering the ground. They could have produced a green seamer looking at the rest of the square. Obviously the bcci have a fair bit of clout over the ECB

I think either of these teams could be 30-3 or score 500. England lay is the best bet for me but with a view to chip out if England win the toss.

Yeh could be the case WD, definitely going to reassess, my bullishness for India has disappeared!

Ashley I think India have a mental toughness about them and clarity of purpose.

They have decided on Vijay and Dharwan to open, wrongly imho. Does KL Rahul play? He should! Shastri is talking a good game and I think everybody knows their role. I am interested to see if Ishant Sharma pitches it up.

England would be better off playing Moen instead of Malan as a batsman and have his off spin as a bonus! I would like to have a look at Porter as I haven't seen him yet. I don't think either Curran is third seamer material for me. Plenty of heart though. Maybe though a good replacement for Ben Stokes.

I do think India will prove more resilient than recent tours but the toss may be the deciding factor. The good thing is nobody has a scooby really!

Draw went sub 1.1 in the last game here against Pak.
Not counting the d/n debacle against WI.

Turned a sizeable loss into a very decent win, that.

Track may look flat but the draw is trading rather higher than a few days back.

nice work CS....

ive just listened to the latest "tuffers & vaughan"podcast and aggers on it too

aggers says he been at Edgbaston today and the pitch "looks damp with plenty of grass"

groundsman says the outfield has had so much water on it to help preserve the square blahdy blah

well worth a listen chaps, plenty more pitch info etc

as for me im holding fire until ive seen the pitch and the line-ups will be quite insightful too...dont wanna red before it starts!
good to see some early birds catching the market above
really looking forward to this
hope Root and Kohli have a real battle
so excited

I can't see much grass even when I zoom in. Dobell noted it was dry and hard. Still 36 hours out and once it's been cut again, rolled & the sun has got to it, I expect it to play well.

Looking at the rest of the square, they could have produced a really green wicket, so obviously a commercial standpoint has been taken.
Last thing they want is a 3 day test & the weekend ticket sales null and voided.

The prices are wrong imo.  Obviously punters haven't seen England play in the last 12 months.

as much as i'm not that sold on india either if it was a choice of under or over 2.5 wins for england in the series which is about where their price is at the moment i'd be all in on unders. they just don't have the form in the book to justify that price

The pitch did look very brown! I would prefer straw colour. Indicates to me a little soft and may seam but maybe the sun got on it today? The bottom line is we don't know. Can't tell how much grass is on the wicket but I get the feeling a Chairman's wicket would be more likely. These poor counties have to play in blood to host a game. A 3 day wicket is pure madness. I don't think there is too much jingoism in English Cricket and I applaud that! I am really interested in a draw back but financial prudence dictates to me for this game. Sticking with England lays and pray at the toss and first session. We may know shall win this test by 1pm tomorrow. We also may know who will not win by that time too. I am hoping my work will be done by 3pm!

Well There is no point for me in playing Malan instead of Moen! Mr Beardy gives England so much more. If the wicket is indeed flat England have no penetration unless the ball spins. India could rack up plenty! Mind you so could England!

The indication is perhaps there will be some grass. That is a confusing message. Maybe there won't!

Will the pitch break up days 4 and 5? Will the game last that long? Maybe England don't think so. I would love the groundsman to Gillette the wicket just to throw the cat amongst the pidgeons.

I think Pandya should not be playing for India but probably he will. I would be very disappointed if KL Rahul does not play. I would like to see two spinners for India and 3 seamers. That would send a positive message.

I reiterate. If the wicket goes flat England will look like village green trundlers..... and I know quite a lot about that as I daresay you do too InjeraWink!

Could you ( injera ) please give your opinion on the browness of the wicket and how much grass you can see. Will it dry out a bit today? Do you think it could be lively first up? Will it flatten out? When could it spin? England only playing one spinner!
