bess may be of no use here but better preparation for test cricket playing at taunton than most places in england. probably half england's away tests are played on spinning tracks

Just say the highlights. They fielded pretty well too. One of those days for Pakistan.

Huge day tomorrow,

If the weather is good, people thinking of leads in the region of 50 may need to think again. If somebody get in Like Ali they could score a big hundred and that will raise the confidence of the others. Safraz and the two all rounders can bat as well!

Maybe a bit early to call but England I suggest are up against it if they do not get atmospheric help with the ball tomorrow.

its defo the place to play for a spinner mafe!!

my point is spin figures can and do look flattering at taunton with how they are preparing the pitches there at the mo

So obviously England pick him at Lord’s rather than Ali, who has a very decent home record with bat and ball and has been crucial in rescuing more top order catastrophes than I care to recall. The original rationale for playing a batsman spinner at home, when you’ve got four seamers persists but England ignored it to pick a neophyte specialist. I’d like to see Bess develop but I don’t think test matches against dangerous opponents are for developing kids.

Ali, like Woakes, keeps returning from tours looking a worse player but still think they’ve ditched him too early.

134 behind with 9 wickets left and odds against is plain daft.

it's a difficult one. ali's been one of our top players in home conditions last 3 or 4 years but worse than useless on tour. do you pick the best side to beat pakistan and india at home then be totally found out when we go overseas again or try a pick side which might be more competitive in the winter

obviously bess wouldn't have played if leach had been fit. hard to go back to ali for a couple of matches as leach i imagine will be straight back in the india series

Fell asleep at tea and woke to this scorecard/market
Pretty sure my position would have been worse if I had stayed awake, so can't complain on that front.
Eng started the day at 1.5, a/o 180 odd and the oppo 50/1 . Only moved 40 ticks, layers have got to feel sick to their innards.
You get that much movement for back to back 6s in the IPL!
Not sure what to do going forward, got a few hours to deliberate, cogitate & digest things

could be the market remembers what happened in 2006 between these two teams at the Oval...

PAK are a different outfit these days I know, but its still wise to tread with caution..

As a rule if its too good to be true then it usually is too good to be true...but surely the only explanation to this market is that the pakistanis are at it again..

tbh not sure anybody is thinking about that, just Pak's propensity to fold at anytime on any deck , especially when $$$$ have been exchanged

By:

I think there will be huge movements in the first hour if no wickets are taken. Draw will break double figures and the other two will flip
By:

The $$$$ are exchanged when Pakistan are well on top. There's no point bustng 2.x when they could soon be sub 1.5. Then you can worry about the brown envelope. Right now market in a state of denial. Will wake up shortly as juce said.

They have a penchant for a 1.1 bust, either on themselves or the draw

Missed the last session DT, were Pak lucky batting or did the pitch settle down?
By:
detraveller
When: 25 May 18 09:18
I don't watch juce. One catch was dropped, at least, by Stokes. Cricbuzz says Pak could well have been 4 down so probably a couple more chances/decisions went against England OR they were getting good help from the conditions. You'll have to ask someone who knows the game better and was watching yesterday.

I remember they did that last time they were here. And twice in Aus before that. Prbably against Srilanka too when they couldn't chase 130 odd. Fair play to them they always wait till 1.1 so their backers can cash out.

especially when he's batting, plays some very very bizarre/dodgy knocks at times. He seems to guide catches to fielders

Was reading about Abbas yesterday. I was warned about him b someone before the game. Turns out the guy averages 12 with the ball in Pakistan's local compeition this season. Plus he spent a month with Lester leading up to the game.
