Greener! Picked up the 2.9 I put in after backing at 3.55 overnight. Still have a 1.9 around, which would put me 800 even green.

Should they be trying to score runs or not here? It feels like a situation where the runs don’t mattter much but they could affect things a bit if England out with very little time left. Thing is, say Stokes and Anderson in with 10 overs left and scores near level, you’d want Stokes to take some risks to farm strike but probably not to score runs to set a lead up.

Zimmers Windies test match late last year had £50 mill matched, this will not even reach 1/2 that.

The session break should coincide with the flip.

Relatively nicely green now.

Astle has bowled quite nicely here. Odd to have a leg spinner and not use him when you don’t care much about going for runs. Although having said that, England will get a lead if batting into the last 8 or so overs, which at least takes 2 out for changeover. Could conceivably have a comical 2 overs to get 25 runs or so. Would be hilarious if that’s happened. Can’t say I’ve ever really seen it apart from England Sri Lanka once where Vaughan and Trescothick got something like 60 very comfortably inside 5 overs and England failing to do similarly in the first UAE test against the light rather than the nominal overs left though.

Anyone else struggling to believe Broad faced 77 balls hardly scoring last England test here to help save it?

But that was before Varun Aaron ......bounced Broad and ruined him as a bat forever.

His record isn’t actually that different before and after, certainly if you remove the outlying 150. I think it’s a bit of a false narrative myself. He’s always had a good eye but indifferent application.

Talking of application...

Mentally I believe he's gone after that.   He's a waster with the bat, should have been a proper all-rounder.

Thought you were talking about Stokes after that shot!

My point is that his record before he got smashed in the face wasn’t that good either, given his talent.

Soneone in that England dressing room needs to show some nasty, common theme the way wickets are gifted away  time after time.

We need an Alex Ferguson!

England might take 20 overs to score 70 runs. " overs for change of ends. This could get quite exciting but it is the midnight hour with a pink ball remember. I shall not forsake an all round green for draw glory or should I say folly!

A flip and then a NZ win is my best guesstimate here.   There is not much cricket in the days ahead so I'll be recharging my batteries after this last session.

The best way to play short pitched bowling is to evade it. As soon as the ball whistles past you there is a huge anticlimax and feeling of wasted effort. If you can do that 4 times in a row it makes the bowler think
