And laid NZ as well.

Interestingly the weather has gotten worse for Saturday and Sunday yet the draw has gone out to 5's. I am guessing its the 3 fine days (almost guaranteed) and the state of the pitch that has got layers salivating. Pitch looks green but may be on the slow side... which might mean slow scoring and dour play which may help the draw. I am tempted to back some of the 5's but will wait till tomorrow before committing.

It's not that uncommon for Kiwi tracks to look greener than a toad but play reasonably, especially if the atmospherics don't help swing, which they often do, to be fair. Five does look a nice high draw price given how well Kiwi wickets hold up. Although pxb's draw lay to back approach is my favourite, I don't fancy an initial lay at 5 or over very much, especially if it may rain later on.

If/When it doesn't rain last 2 days, it will be overcast.
Wasn't expecting the draw to go so big. Greentops tend to be the norm in NZ and frequently go 5 days. Already covered my draw lay, and will back at bigger prices. Mind you, if SAF bowl first, Philander and Rabada could make short work of the Kiwis. Not a match to go big on IMO. |

Agree. Both sides have good seam bowling, SA especially and the Kiwis have fairly dodgy batting so a draw back could be destroyed in a session. I've therefore only had a small nibble at 5.2 and will take more if I can get 5.5. Could well be that the price hikes as the colour of the pitch gets an airing in the immediate run up. Actually, might move my second back up to 6.

Looks tricky this, just back value is probably the way to go and that won't show itself until we know the toss and seen some passage of play.

It's not normally a good idea to bet against NZ playing at home as I've found to my cost in the past.
I had a small bet, quarter stake, on them at 3.3 earlier. It was following the market trend which hasn't quite bottomed out yet. |

I am really interested to see if Neesham plays! I would rather have him than Nicholls and would also rather have Guptill down the order than Nicholls. IMHO they should play both Neesham and The Big Man. Take a chance and play both spinners. The only question for me is can you play both Southee and Wagner? Ashley I am not sure Jeet patel is all that so I would leave him out as well as Nicholls.
I think SA are the stronger side by far. If it is cool and there is not much swing then Southee will look very ordinary. There may be bigger changes of momentum and price swings towards the end of the match rather than first up that we are all expecting! Not sure what to do. Chuck a bit at SA and walk away or wait for the toss and see how it plays? Can't follow this game but will see the first session. Wait and see! |

Does that mean NZ bat first if they win the toss? Does that mean NZ bat first regardless if they win or lose the toss?

I am fearful of what both sets of bowlers will do on that strip!

I suspect yes. |

I don't think the market has woken up to that quite yet.... once the tv comes on it may move the market a bit....

10.30am Faf du Plessis has called right, South Africa will bat first
|
|
By:
and bat
|
|
By:
assumed they were bowling after seeing market reaction
|
|
By:
the team news gets announced at the toss though, perhaps it was a reaction to that
|

Backed the draw at 5.7.
|
|
By:
wow first time in 22 games win toss and bat here
|
|
By:
2 spinners for NZ, Patel and Santa, Neesham supporting the seamers

10.30am Faf du Plessis has called right, South Africa will bat first. Gnasher tells me it ends a run of 22 'bowl first' calls in New Zealand. Kane Williamson says he would have batted first too, for this surface is "drier than we're used to.

|
By:
NZ batting looks thin to me.

you have got to fancy SA looking at the two sides.
