Sorry man, hasn't turned out too well for you. I did say they could be at 1.2 by the close. Wouldn't entirely lose hope though as could still be a collapse or, less likely, enough of a second innings rearguard from SA to send them out again.

In other news, draw backers still look shafted. I don't think the SA batting line up is a bad one but missing AB it's quite hard to see a really heroic draw shortening to under 4 second innings. Best hope is probably Warner our soon and Aus batting 4 more sessions to 500 or so then something like 60/0 or 120/1 from SA. Being bowled out with enough of day 1 left to give away 100 runs is a real dagger to the heart of the draw though: even at 100/0 say at tea on day 3 SA would still be 150 behind in my scenario and needing to bat over 4 more sessions to keep the draw in play. Putting it all down like that I think I should probably just lay the thing at 10s and take half the beating I'm currently taking.

Glad I stayed out of this. Even now I'm wary of the track flattening out and becoming a batting paradise so will continue to keep the powder dry for another day.

Well I have to say I got this all wrong well actually not all. I was hoping SA would send Aussie in on a lively wicket. To be fair to Aus the wicket was not the major factor. They bowled really well, Hazlewood in particular was much improved and had some real zip. Siddle backed him up and Starc was Starc. Only saw till just after lunch so not sure how the pitch was in the afternoon. There was good bounce and carry this morning.

Can't see how SA can come from this and a draw would appear an even more unlikely prospect. Will think wheteher to take the hit now or wait for a more opportune time. Think I shall watch the morning session and hope for a breakthrough. I would imagine Smith and Khawaja will go well on this too.

I didn't see SA bowl but they will need to bowl a good length tomorrow. They can still get back into the match but i think will need some wickets in the morning. The pitch might flatten out but there is so much time left Aus would have to bat until Tea of the third day and then SA bat for a minimum of 5 sessions. I guess that is almost possible if the pitch flattens out and FAF does one of his marathons but others will need to contrubute big not just Amla and de Kock. Can't see it.

Last 21 Test matches at this venue has produced 18 results and only 3 draws.

With the match position as it stands after day one i would say that there is little to no chance of a draw unless the weather intervenes.

Draw backers should think about baling out !!!

just watched the highlights, glad i was fast asleep last night and not anywhere near the keyboard

Warner lbw on 17....no ball big Vern Angry

listening to comms and from the little ive seen the 3 seamers bowled well and some excellent catches made it a great day for aus
as for the saffers they couldnt handle the extra nibble and bounce as well as excellent length from aus..first hour at the waca etc
what a great knock from Warner

"Dale Steyne cant bowl like that again,he's too good a bowler"says Michael Vaughan

i will lay the aussies or back saffers for a little if i can stay awake
1st hour at the waca might produce a bit extra if not then shouldnt be too costly
safas still 140 ahead
have we seen a train in a test match recently.
not enough hours in the day Cry

Saffer bowled too short for too long. Give it another hour and then they will go negative. If lucky they bowl em out tomorrow and are 200 down at close.I doubt that will happen mind,so
lunch day 3 over 300 down.

Saffer have one chance to avoid a loss, which is to be batting on day 5.

SAF have a history of batting big 2nd innings in Aus including here. So this match is far from being over.

I don't expect the pitch to be much livelier early tomorrow and Aus should get at least 400.

Last match SAF played here they scored 569 runs 2nd innings. Although, this SAF team isn't as strong batting IMO.

I'm wondering if Aus will declare today or bat on into day 3, assuming they don't get bowled out.

They will just bat and bat.
The game is so far progressed that they have that luxury.
600 incoming!
Some really poor batting from SA has got them in a real pickle.
I think it was also a mistake to only have 3 seamers when they have no all rounder.
Should have gone with Morkel/Abbott instead of Maharaj. Duminy could bowl just as effectively on a deck like this.
It could be a very long and painful day in the field for the Saffers

Just missed going green on Aus yesterday pre-play and obviously paying for it now. And I have to go a function today, so will miss most of the play. I'll leave a few bets up and hopefully come back to a mostly green position.

I am thinking of Laying Aus at least for the first hour of play. Short term trade just considering the upside in case of wickets. Aus might not go too much lower than this until SA bat again.

Reverse swing on a quick pitch is deadly as you are on the back foot most of the time and the swing pins you/cleans you up

Good fight back this morning by SA. I have not watched. Decided to let me bets run as it was so early in the match. I noticed hazlewood got some reverse yesterday so Steyn will be a big miss for this match and the rest of the series.

Is the pitch dry? I knew it was meant to start to wear days 4 and 5 but was not so sure we would get there! Is theis Maharaj any good?

DT,

He never talks about the cricket. He never adds anything to the conversation before a game starts. I think he justs sit's in his bedsit in Earls Court and trawls through comments with a pack of tissues in his hand, which, I have to say is a good thing. Imagine being an offspring of that. I would imagine the sperm come out and the ones at the front yell " stop lads it's a wainquer " but it's too late by then of courseWhoops!
