I'm really in two minds with this, both teams play an attacking, intensive form of cricket which leads me to believe that without any significant rain forecast there must be a result.
But If you look at previous tests at wellington there have been plenty of draws with some big scores so the draw has to be a player. I think i will to wait to see the pitch as the market looks about right to me. |
By:
Have had a bit of a draw back at 4.3, hoping for at least a worsening forecast.
By:
Too far out for the draw as yet for me. This looks like an evenly matched Series again. Aus batting against NZ bowling. Not sure how effective Aus attack will be. The NZ batting is getting better. I don't think they will be bullied so much will depend on the pitches prepared. NZ no longer have to play on green wickets. If the groundsman goes too far the other way there is plenty of decent batting around. Maybe the draw is the bet! Have I answered the the question to myself?
By:
If the draw price moves up to around 5.0 i will back it. I keep looking at the big scores , mcCullum smashed 300 here a couple of years ago.
By:
It will be as green as a toad's belly on the first day & then flatten out into a belter, as usual in NZ. The pitches never deteriorate because of the grass covering.
As pxb says the draw lay to back is an option to really make a fortune. I might just back the draw at late 4s and pray not too much damage happens on day 1. If it does, grab my cojones & back again in double figures |
By:
Grab one's cojones time indeed. If we see a couple of early wickets with the new ball, draw should go well over 5. Double figures would be a gift.
Managed to lay the draw a bit at 4.1, but only a fraction of what I wanted. |

wonder if boult and southee would rather have a dukes over a kookaburra
By:
Only option for me looks Kiwi Lay though not a willy nilly lay one at the right time at the right price, Siddle may do well on these pitches hope he is in frame!
By:
Forecasts still look ok. I'm just laying the draw for starters.

Cricinfo ramping a green top.

Big backer of the draw at 4.8.

Would love to see N.Z bat first and not lose a wicket early. Weather looks fine so no weather plays but for me it looks like a back the draw now to lay around day 2/3. Although still need to look at more stats.

Think the Draw lay to Back like pxb says may be the way to go here. |
By:
I think we will see 5 on the draw before play when comms shows the green pitch. Then a couple of wickets and we should see 7 or 8.
Although if no wickets, a draw train in prospect for 2 or 3 days. |
By:
no early wickets (1st hour)
By:
The forecast for day 5 which was giving concern continues to improve and is now expected to be sunny and warm according to some. Hopefully we will get 5 full days play.

* 5 full days available for play

Interesting that they have put matting and the covers on to keep the moisture in.
I think it might be a case of half and half ( if you are not on the wrong side of Offa's **** that is half chips, half rice ). Going to go with formulated opionion on here and take an ante post draw position but hold some back in case of swing and early wickets first up before lunch. They seem to know in NZ that the green burns off fairly quickly. Quite an interesting Test Match in prospect. Punters can't seem to call it and that is my position too. I am learning to be fluid in approach and get in and out. Tyco, Are you a sheep shaegger? I am quite enjoying the banter across the Tasman. It was quite funny reading the comments in the paper and one Convict wag...well here is part of the discourse!.... badienz1 day ago Wow you made a comment without saying that we think McCullum is greater than than Bradman,is something wrong with you today ??? Rhys Morris1 day ago Yeah I know right? McCullum was clearly way out of his depth when he made 302. |

I am in at 5.2!
Only a small bet. Am holding back for a good look at the wicket and maybe early wickets. No rain should mean more chance of the draw in my book on this wicket. Plenty of ordinary bowlers around here when the sun is out. Less chance of reverse too with lush wicket and outfield. I think it is a gamble worth taking. |
By:
Wow,
I think Matt Henry is going to play instead of Wagner! 5 Bowlers and looks like Anderson is not in the squad! 5 Batters + BJ, 4 seamers and Craig. I assume Wagner the carthorse will be left out. That is a bold statement from NZ and MugCullum. I might suggest they don't need 4 seamers on a green top. Interesting. High octane strategy but maybe the pitch is ok is how I read this if it is correct ( cricinfo ). Would appreciate some antipodeon input when you guys wake up. |
By:
Im backing the draw at these prices.
By:
Oz plenty short enough.
A lot depends on Hazlewood I would think. Lets not forget how they fared on seamer friendly pitches just a few months ago. |
By:
I fancy Hastings to take wickets on this pitch.
By:
I don't as Hastings isn't in the test squad.
By:
had another top up at 5.1 but for some reason I don't like my position. Draw will hit sub 3.0 but when???? draw price can move sharpish inwardards after the toss.
By:
Hi Whisperingdeath, that depends on your definition of sheep shagger. We in NZ refer to australians as said, I believe they refer to us as said. So i guess a tentative YES is in order :)
By:
This does look like a 5 day thriller, McCullum want's to go out with a winning Series and Aus need to win for No1 spot. This will be one match that will not go cheaply. Can't call it but if Aus win the toss they will not want to bat first and vise virsa.
By:
Hi Tyco,
I guess that clears that up! Are you actually living down under? Do you have any insight we might be missing up here? I would hope the pitch gets a shave this morning. Do you get any different newspaper coulmns and TV shows we may be missing i.e from your players who may fall below the Murdoch radar but may have an interesting opinion to proffer? |

Thats not been taken today surely

Radio is saying that hessian cover has been on trying to keep moisture in. Theory is that it could become a road later on if not careful. Should be green early on though. Not sure if they are going to shave it off, last year it looked similar.

Ok cricinfo now have Anderson in for Matt Henry. Probably makes sense but I would have liked to have seen Henry. Maybe he is being saved if this pitch does flatten out. Bird instead of Pattinson.
Thanks for the links |
