Posted this on chit chat..Moeen to top bat 20/1 with Ladbrokes 1/5th first three..absolute steal and a must bet bearing in mind how well he batted in the 1st test.

Regarding the actual match can't see for the life of me why the Aussies are favs.England outplayed them in every department and are brimful of confidence.Doubts over Stark and the poor form of Watson and Haddin make England a confident bet at 15/8.Even if the weather intervenes both teams play at such a pace that a draw appears unlikely.Australia only know one way to play and that is to attack, a ploy which England will embrace. This new found swagger by the home side is a joy to behold and what a day to look forward to on Thursday..Lords test match against a wounded Aussie and the start oF the greatest golf tournament in the world from the home of golf..can't wait!!

Just thought how to strengthen the England Top 4...KP at 4 and move Bell to 3!

By:
Boof unhappy with the Cardiff pitch and is hoping for more bounce at HQ.
He does realise he's playing away doesn't he! |
By:
Just checked the long range forecast..not a drop of rain expected in the London area from Thursday onwards...lets hope that's spot on
![]() |
By:
on the other hand it is still pissing down here in Cardiff, has rained all morning and who knows what time they would have started today
By:
The importance of the way England got on with the game from day 1 is evident now.
By:
Australia have a strong record at Lords.
By:
True..they won there 10 years ago

By:
Have layed the draw at 3.45.
Lords is often thought of as a draw venue but the way these teams play, a draw is unlikely. Thought Aussie was complacent last time and wonder if they can up their game in time to avoid another defeat. Not confident of that and expect another England victory but am "playing safe" with the draw lay. Was glad to be proved wrong last time and dodged a bullet by closing out in the nick of time albeit at a loss. Hope to do better this time. |

Unless Aussies change their stubborn ways it's hard to see them winning a test this series. Attack attack attack is the only way they know how to play, and that doesn't suit English pitches.
Chris Rogers said after Oz 1st innings that Aussie batsmen could be forgiven for getting out to aggressive shots because they've played that way their whole life. What rubbish, refusing to adapt to another countries conditions is just laziness. |
By:
Australia have been playing attacking cricket in England for as long as I can remember and have won twice as many test as they have lost
By:
Oz beaten in their last two Tests at Lords including a hammering last time out (2013)
However, they do still have a strong bowling attack - they bowled pretty well 2nd innings at Cardiff to roll us over for 280-odd. Main question mark surrounding England is our inability to string two good performances together - especially in back-to-back Tests. Forecast is for some rain Weds and Thurs. A draw would be a good result for us going to Edgbaston for the Third Test. |
By:
Think Australia have won 1 of their last 15 tests v England in England.
By:
As I said, won twice as many as lost
By:
Word has it that Shane Watson will probably be the only omission come the 2nd Test with Mitch Marsh likely to be his replacement. Mitch Marsh was pushing strongly for that 1st Test with 2 centuries in the tour matches and from reports was stunned to be not included in the 1st match. Mitch Starc should be fit for the 2nd test and the injury is not as bad as first believed.
By:
not sure you can say they bowled that well 2nd inns. once england were around 350 on and the game was pretty safe they just threw the bat at everything. 4 of the last 5 wickets were to reckless shots they wouldn't have played if we needed more runs
By:
only 2 of last 18 tests at lords have been draws, weather affected games v sri lanka, backing England at 3.1 appears the sensible trade

Aussies favourites? I don't think so!

I really can't call this one. Who is going to turn up? I am going to try and break the habit and not have a pre match or immediate post toss bet. Will try and stay out of it during the first day but that is probably impossible!
Tough decisions for both teams will probably not be made. The only change I can see is Marsh for Twatto but even England fans knew that was the best call before the First test. I would go further and call up Cummins for MJ. I wouldn't play Siddle, honest trier that he is because that would just play into England's War of Attrition against their Attack. I think MJ is on the brink again and if he doesn't get it right at Lords Aussie could be 2 down with 3 to play. It's a really hard call and left field but I think it makes sense. I can't see it happening but England must see him off and go after Lyon again so putting stress on Starc's ankle. He is their chief threat. Lords is unforgiving. Bowl it right and you can take wickets but get it wrong and the square boundaries are short and there is a slope. England should give Bairstow a go because of the form he is in. Ballance must be sacrificed despite his courageous performance. His technique is at sea and he needs to refind his form. Bell get's his last chance for me and at 3. This will send a strong message out to the rest of the team. I think Stuart Fraud, " The Enforcer " and " best white ball bowler in the world " has benefitted from being dropped from the ODI side. His first Test effort was magnificent. Well done to him, I am not his biggest fan. I have a feeling the pitch may seam about first day and there may be wickets. I am inclined to oppose the side batting first which is contrary to what I normally do. The pitch should bat easiest on days 2 and 3. I think days 4 and 5 at Lords will be reasonably ok. Both teams will get a second chance on this wicket if they mess it up first time. I wouldn't rule out a draw again contrary to popular opinion. |

WD the forecast I have seen looks quite grim for Thursday and Friday
By:
test cricket is a total lottery for me pre match, T20 and one day games somuch easier
By:
I don't know what forecast you're looking at sewter but according to the beeb , accu and met office not a drop of rain for Thursday or Friday and getting increasingly dry and hot
By:
I thought an Aus lay at even money was nalied on Grant!
Greed got the better of me when they didn't rip through England and I thought the pitch was well playable! Laying England for both Test's against NZ should have also raised Capital but I didn't lay back when England went over 12's and I think possibly over 20's in the First Test and so lost something that was cast ( greed is not always good! ). sewter, My forecast just looks cloudy. Rain next two days which may hamper pitch preparation a little or nor or cause a little sweating or not but I think the bowlers are likely to get some help. Temperature is decent so I expect there may be potentially some swing to go with a little seam and the Lords slope. I may even be prepared to lay Aus if significantly sub the current 2.5 but wouldn't like to be holding that bet if they get the ball. |
By:
Australia has shortened a significant amount the last 2 days. Probably, on the back of Watto out and Starc playing. Neither certain BTW.
I agree with WD that Cummins should be given a game in place of Johnston who is past his best. Will Lehman roll the dice? I think he may. No rain, Aus bowling and both sides batting isn't a recipe for a draw, and the draw should steadily drift out, assuming no rain in the forecast. I trade Test match markets as soon as we have some kind of forecast, and are probably more attuned to preplay markets than others. I must admit I was a bit surprised at how much Aus shortened (and Eng drifted) without specific news. ---------- We always seem to get some muppet, who chimes in with a ridiculous weather ramp. |
By:
yes green army the latest beeb forecast is significantly better than previously
By:
By:
Cloud excellent for a result at Lords - I'd be more worried as a draw layer if 5 days of sun were forecast.
By:
Overall it's really hard to see how these 2 teams can conspire to get to a draw his series 400 plus overs bowled. There are just too many players on both sides that move the game on so quickly
By:
agreed - Draw a lay every single time
By:
Still decent value in series score markets if you fancy 5 results imco
By:
yep the drainage is fantastic at lords even if it does rain and england didn't even bat 2 full days in scoring 700+ runs at cardiff

Could anyone tell me why Faulkner was not selected?
He is a genuine 4th seamer and could bowl in excess of 15 overs a day. His batting can be very good but not of Test standard as yet but I believe he has the ability to develop into a decent number 6. There will always be better strike bowlers for Aus so his batting must develop. |
By:
Faulkner has been pigeon holed as a "short form" specialist.
By:
And an Australian conditions specialist. Good at home. Not so good overseas.
It looks like both the Marsh brothers are next in line for Test places. |
By:
I'd certainly have Australia as favourites, England's openers are brittle, number 3 on borrowed time, spinner average at best. Australia's bowling attack is still far superior and batting just ahead of England's. Year after year England preform well once and the the years of below par performances are all forgot and they're world beaters again

By:
In two horse race 3.10 England is a very tasty proposition

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth lads...pile into the rejuvenated mighty mighty England..crazy price..more boots filled here.
