I joined Edinburgh South Cricket club and having spent many years out of the game turned up at practice. Primarily as a batsman that is (was) pretty damn good at catching. Anyway after my batting appraisal they chucked me the ball. Have a bowl your tall 6'4, "ok" said me not expecting much its only practice right? Now im not a bowler by any stretch of the imagination and never was. Rocked up... bowled of the wrong foot first ball. Opps, got away with it, bambozal'd the batter no doubt. Sorted it out... second ball, straight bowled one of the top bats at the club. Decent! Continued on, few balls later, caught and bowl. Sweet! My first every two wickets. Last ball of the over, snicked to the keeper. Hat trick! So after 30 years on this planet I thought I had found my calling. Straight in the team for the weekend. Chucked the ball away to Dunbar. Decent wee start the top bowlers were keeping it tight. James, right do what you done at practice. 'ok'. Smacked all over the shop, think I went for 30. They lost 3 balls, one over the Trainline, one in the deep rough over the fence and another disappeared. Credit to the Cpt, chucked me the ball for another over... No Thanks, that's the last time I ever bowled. No biggie, cripples my back bowling, ill stick to being a **** batsman thanks. |
