Yes Yo,
People talk a lot of pelt at times. They will have a bash after lunch with Bell and Butler. Problem here is the overs. Dhoni on a go slow. Probably bowl 23 over after lunch so lead could be between 420 and 450 if England get a hurry up. That leaves India a lot of overs to possibly chase a not impossible target. Tea or how long after tea is the conundrum now. |

india dont even try to chase this. leave and block for 4 sessions incoming

england must declare by tea at a must to have a chance

Ballance is certainly a good find for England whatever he does here I reckon he'll be around for a while.

pitch looks fine... draw to hit 1.5

Max,
Imdia will not chase for sure but England will have attacking fields and as usual no third man! Some of these players can't help themselves and will play their natural game. Bats are heavy these days. A defensive push goes all the way to the boundary. India have mainly right handers too. 420 in 120 overs is not beyond belief. Thinking they actually may have to set 450 now but they could still declare by tea if they push hard. |

I reckon they will just declare at tea regardless. they will have more than enough by then.

Unlucky Ballance.
Here's a question. If Cook hit one in the air to you, do you catch it? I wouldn't! |
|
By:
Why do the Indians get away with not having DRS ? Thats twice Ballance has been given out when he clearly was not on both occasions .
Makes me inclined not to bet on matches when India are playing as I basically think the umpires quite often get it wrong . |
|
By:
no keep cook in if u play for india. he has strike rate of 50 here which is 3 an over. the guy down the other end has to keep the run rate up.

one of the interesting things about cricket are the effects you can get between players.
bowling in pairs or packs is a good example where the effect is greater than the sum of their parts. likewise, i suspect dravid played a major role in tendulkar's success. i also wonder whether cook's fate is partly sealed by the man at the other end. i suspect bowlers find it more difficult to bowl full at him when there's a guy at the other end who likes to get forward. He bats well with Strauss, Pietersen, Bell and Compton and Trott. Ballance could help him too. The likes of Carberry and Robson may well make his life more difficult, with both looking to stay back more. |

those betfair adverts with the octopus and the slogan "this is play" does anyone know wtf that even means?

India will never go for DRS . Bookmakers can get at Umpires , they can't manipulate DRS.

india will not use DRS until something happens which allows them to present an, albeit incorrect, case that their original decision not to use it was justified.
they completely misunderstood the process when it was first introduced (as did many other teams), and then made up some irrelevant sh1t about hawkeye to justify their moronic stance and have since been wallowing in cognitive dissonance for almost a decade. it's reached the stage now where their reluctance to admit their original mistake has made them look substantially more foolish than the original mistake itself. |
|
By:
England should play 20/20 style for the next hour or 2 then have a bowl, i know they won't but i don't see why not
|
|
By:
they're actually right though aren't they? the moronic system of two appeals per innings is doomed to failure because it doesn't remove all howlers. there will come a time when the decision as to what gets reviewed is rightly placed with the third umpire, and India will join the system.

"the best 15 year olds in the country" how can they possibly say this 95% of schools in the uk dont offer cricket so there must be 1000s of boys with potential who never even pick up a bat and know the game exsists

I don't think the review system is too far off the mark but I would change the margin of error to say 25% of the ball hitting is out rather than over 50%. If Hawkeye can be half a ball out then it's not accurate enough to use. It definitely adds a dimention that makes it more interesting for me.
|
|
By:
the system doesn't have to be misused by players to fail. they can lose their appeals in good faith - particularly on caught behinds where the technology can fail to prove a false negative. once you have lost your two appeals you may be unable to appeal a howler. it's a flawed system. the obvious alternative is put the technology where it belongs - with the officials (as in rugby) not with the player (as in tennis). Tennis is a simpler game - all that is tested is a simple in/out question. The cricket requirement is much more complex.

If I were India I would be looking to get Root and Cook at the crease
|
|
By:
let me put this to you:
you have a gambling system, it gives a strike rate of 90%. i offer you a piece of technology, guaranteeing you the opportunity to increase your strike rate. do you take it. of course you do. the argument that DRS is not optimal, or perhaps not delivering on its original intended usage, is not enough to reject its use when it is shown to improve decision making. perhaps it can be improved. it could be better and there may be ways to achieve that, but you cannot state that the status quo is worse than not having it. the problem with the 3rd umpire approach is we see how often every decision for a no ball is referred to the third umpire: i fear that nearly every close decision would go to the third umpire, particularly because the 3rd umpire failing to review something which is shown to be contrary to the onfield decision would be met with stern derision; we then start insidiously moving to a situation where the onfield umpire's presence is questioned. |
|
By:
If there was no drs how do you overturn a howler?
The DRS system while not perfect is an improvement and allows for howlers to be overturned like Ballance. People seem to forget the pressure applied to Umpires by cheating teams. They would howl in disgust when they knew it was not out. Just look at Broad now even with drs replays he is convinced he has taken a wicket when even the naked eye can tell you legside Too many attacks on the system but most agree it is a great improvement. In the recent SL SA series I think there were 19 drs appeals by SL and only 2 were over turned! Go figure. It is there to help with howlers not squeeze a wicket! |
