Market fixated on this rain over the weekend. Draw probably safest bet of the 3 at this point imo. India winning toss will play into hands of draw as basically they're conservative and able to bat. If Eng win toss things might get more interesting.

As in all tests in England, far too early to be thinking about what the weather will - or wont - do at the Weekend!

On current forecast will lose quite a few overs Sat.

Backed the draw, looking to lay day 1 or 2. Hope forecast doesn't change too much.

hmmm the more I look at this forecast the less convinced I am that it going to affect London very much at all

probably a few showers about. maybe even a thunderstorm but doubt we'll lose much time. pitch is mega green currently.
groundsman may even buckle under pressure and leave some grass on for once

Will wait for the the pitch report.

I expect the pitch to be so good that a draw is the likely result.  I also thought that last year and lost all my first test winnings!  It was possibly the most embarassing and shameful performance in the history of Australian Test Cricket ( The Chappell under arm was an ODI! ).  It was certainly the worst I have ever seen since watching cricket in 1970.

I am not even looking at the weather at this stage. I just want to see how much grass is on the wicket.

Pitch should be green today. Tomorrow will be the key day to take it down to 5mm. Hopefully not lower.

I'll be amazed if there's much greenery on thursday.

Still fancy England (if Kerrigan DOESN'T play..)

England need Anderson to avoid a ban.

No way he gets anything - well other than the satisfaction of the Indians looking petty and pathetic prima-donnas for being so 'offended' by something that they waited a week to make the complaint. If they find in Anderson's favour then they should ban jadeja (or the sainted Dhoni as this has come from him) for a frivolous waste of the time of officials.

*even if he has pushed him - unless it was obv nasty which as there doesn't seem to be footage of it (and both teams played happily for 3 days afterwards) it almost certainly isn't.

was going to lay the side batting second.  May not have a bet on this today.  If side betting first make it through the day without the loss of too may wickets I might take a specualtive on the draw!  Very interesting first session coming up.  England may think this is their wicket but India have 3 good medium pacers with variety.  It is not a forgone conclusion for me that England win this.

Team wise I expect England to remain unchained and if India have any sense and less pride they would bring in Ashwin for Jadeja as I believe he will not only strengtehn the bowling but the batting too!  I dont however expect Ashwin to play, more fool India.

I think that draw will trade at sill low prices this morning - this seems to be a pattern to these tests

I think the whole match and exchange is going to be be blown open by the toss and early wickets.  Just a feeling.  A cautionary tale here.  Too many scenarios to pick one for me.  I do think though that this is a good pitch and it might win.  I just hope nobody gets blown away day one or they will be looking to bat two whole days to save the game.

pathetic India!  Should have dropped jadeja!

At least it is sunny.  Hope Dharwan does well this match it would be a joy to see him.  Unfortunately I fear I shall be watching Engand bat when I go tomorrow, boring!

I think the fact it is sunny might help India but they could be in for a rough ride.  I also think a few scores might be settled today, will be fun.

On the whole I am with Michael Holding, play cricket keep you gob shut.  We don't have to play The Convict way which I think is disgusting.  I would hate to play cricket like that mind you watching it can be fun if there are decent fast bowlers around!

I am not betting  I am not betting   I am not betting!

why would you drop jadeja?! Ashwin can only come in for Binny.  This notion that Ashwin is a top test bowler is beyond me as well tbh - comms talk him up as if he is world class in this format.

only the brave

I know Ashwin's record is rubbish outside India but he has bottle and will keep it tight one end.  He is a better spinner than Jadeja and bats better than him too in Test Matches.  I think his bowling has improved over the years and he is older and wiser.  Spin bowling is an art that is only mastered over time.  He is better than is overseas record indicates.

You are right though maybe they dont need a spinner so maybe I would have brought in The Extremely Talented One ( Rohit Sharma ) for this match in place of Jadeja and maybe even consider another fast bowler.  I know the latter idea sounds dummb but no dumber than than playing the same wrong team twice!

£200 on Eng @2.32

Thanks for your advice on Sunday Whisperingdeath, I turned a losing day into a winning one by laying Eng to accept a small loss then backing Germany.

I'm calling it now and if I look a fool tonight, so be it.
I don't understand England bowling first. The pitch is green, yes, but wouldn't England have wanted their bowlers (unchanged) to rest further? Heatwave today and tomorrow, then a turn for much worse.
A big score for India could have dire consequences for captain Cook. If England batting quickly, he can say "I told you so".
Good luck all.
