Monsoon season in Sri Lanka so expect there will be some rain.
Amla will Captain SA in Galle. Decided to lay Sri Lanka as this also covers the draw. |
By:
Forecast not good. But tropical weather forecasts aren't worth much.
Backed the draw FWIIW. |
By:
why are SL favs tho?
By:
Possibly because both Smith and Kallis have gone plus home advantage.
Even so South Africa should be the better side I would think. |
By:
Taking a speculative punt on the draw. Forecast does not look great but I am not sure how the rain falls in SL.
I think the SA bowling attack is the best in the World. How will the pitches affect them? Will Morkel be neutered? I think both batting line ups are solid. Will the pitch be designed for Herath? or flat and lifeless? |
By:
didnt bangers score 600 here last time?
By:
"Herath took 2 for 176 in his previous Test in Galle, but in the four Tests before that he has 36 wickets". Cricinfo
By:
cant have SA 3/1 & SL 2/1 ffs
By:
i can see a south africa win cause there bowling is also good on flat pitches cause the fast bowlers get the reverse swing going it is very hard for batsman to play that, the only way i see a draw is if we lose overs cause of rain.

we need someone with local knowledge on how this weather angle plays out really
By:
No positions for me till the toss..
By:
Forecast looks fairly grim. Looks like we will lose multiple sessions.
By:
very risky bet that top bet
By:
depends on match situation really
By:
"typical Galle pitch" indicates spin later in the match!
By:
SA bat that might help draw chances by not having to face Herath last. Might also give them a chance of a win. Have not seen pitch yet
By:
Pitch report indicates spin from day 2. Waiting for my Sri Lankan Accountant to wake up!

Yes I know! But that was Mike Haysman not me!
Pitch is dry dry dry and it has been windy and sunny! WHat it does I don't know but typical Galle pitch gives spinner 68% of the wickets. Seamers get lucky day 1 if any moisture in the pitch. It is looking ominous for SL already and they are fighting a rear guard. The question for me already is can SA forcew a win, will weather intervene? I appreciate it is a little early to make that call but that is what i shall be looking at. |

cricvid.com com is clear but lags behind cricbox.nl which is a little patchy and intermittent

Any local weather knowledge?
By:
Nothing wrong with the pitch. It has some pace in it and will spin like a top.
By:
Did you boys get that from the commentary?
Forget sattelite and weather forecast's from the ineternet. the way to go is to keep an eye on the crows! If they are settled it remains dry. If they start flapping about it means rain is coming! Fantastic! |
By:
Ball is reversing!
Trying to hold my nerve as i have layed SL but then SA know how to bowl with a half dry ball so no worries there! |
By:
And if someone shoots the crows, it means the match is fixed.
Seriously, having trouble seeing a result in this match with the weather. I'm an habitual draw layer, but topping up my draw green here. |
By:
I have backed the draw and layed SL. Also just taken a cautionary back of SA at 3.1 just to balance the books. Only reult other than a draw is SA win I would think even at this stage.
I think if the rain is quick there is plenty of time for a result. They got a little reverse going between 30-40 overs so SA may be able to get more advantage from that with their bowlers. I think the pitch will spin too so I am not ruling out a result. It is important for SA to make the toss count and bat well beyond lunch and twoards tea tomorrow. Many of these Saffers have played in the IPL and have been practising agaist spin bowling so it holds no terrors to them till it starts spinning hard. If Erranga has an injury to his finger things are going to remain bleak for them. I can see little point in buying them back save peace of mind. |

sa -00 and draw-34 what should i do
By:
Hard to say Lord!
Where do you see the game going from here? |
By:
south africa need to up scoreing rate here and look to end day on 320 for 4 or 5 wickets down
By:
with bad weather about Africa need to play agressive cricket
By:
It is tea on the first day of a Test Match. The priority is not to lose wickets and build an imposing total. Columbo is usually flat if SL win Galle Test. No hurry yet. Just play cricket.
