Vettori out of 2nd test

Just wondered what everyone thought about the idea that all Test grounds should have floodlights. A lot of the last Test would have been off for bad light & it looks like this one is going to suffer from it.

Think it's a cost implication mostly kardman - can be planning permission as well. For example Lords only allowed retractables on certain dates.
Bottom line is the 'lesser' test grounds which seems to be pretty much everyone apart from Lords and the Oval are struggling to break even anyway. |

I wonder if there is any way they could rent temporary ones just for the duration of the match ? Probably not feasible, but might be worth thinking about.

they need to dtart playing night tests

do you know they haven't ? |

Nice move in. Probably not worth laying off now as could well move in further once the market finally accepts most of tomorrow is gone.
By:
Also, starts taking NZ well out of the game.
By:
how?

Jumped in too soon the other day with a back of England. Will be looking to top up if they go much longer tomorrow then hope for a clatter of NZ wickets over the weekend.
Initial back of the draw was a good call Nigel. |

how low do you think the draw can go pre match guys
By:
if sky opens up tomorrow morning with pictures of overcast skies and full covers on, the draw could be 2.2 by 11-00 imo

If we knew the answer for sure Fencebuilder we would all be rich.
Ask yourself the question "Would I back the draw at this price"? Then you will have a good idea. In my case the answer is that I would not back at 2.5 at this stage, but then, what do I know. |
By:
draw will be odds on by lunch by the looks of the weather
By:
thanks guys - I agree that covers on at 11.00 would cause the draw to become even shorter
By:
Should start playing day/night Tests. Yes maybe, but definatly not in England, with daytime temps around 10 degrees and evening temps even lower and worse weather news, its not going to get much better this summer. It will be plenty of short Tests, with the ball dominating, if that is the case.
By:
overnight weather is **** and should mean a delayed start: draw buyers dump opportunity
By:
Maybe betfair should include the market 'what odds will the draw be at start of play?'

There's be no play tomorrow.

By:
England win the toss, whenever and bowl, New Zealand 180 all out, New Zealand win the toss and bowl, England 230 all out, I reckon a maxumum 300 over Test Match.
By:
Not on headingley - flat pitch
By:
draw now down to 2.36 soon Eng to be odds against?
By:
Lords is usually as flat as a pancake pitch, but it wasn't last week, there will be moisture around and where there is moisture, there will be plenty of movement. Most of the teams, in the County Championship, haven't got great bowling. Now there have been some big scores up at Headingly this season, but apart from Sussex, there hasn't been a great bowling attack, bowl up there apart from Sussex, who cleaned Yorkshire out for 96 and 248. England have an excellent attack, with Anderson, Broad and Finn, if he can pitch the darn ball up.

County cricket is hardly comparable to International. Just look at the past international Tests there.

From the radar it looks like showers today rather than prolonged rain.
BTW, does anyone know how to autorefresh the met office's new radar page? |
By:
this is quite useful http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

Draw has gone out 30 points. People seem optimistic of a good amount play today. Me, I doubt we will get 30 overs in.
By:
a whole day of showers can be worse than a half day of rain!
By:
I'm 20 miles from Leeds, pouring down here and imagine it's the same there. Can't see there be any more than 20 overs today if that. The forecast for Monday and Tuesday isn't great either with scattered showers! Big on the England Lay here I feel...

i'm big lay on england at the moment too. My feelings are, not much play today, sat, sun & mon - good weather, which generally means flat deck + iffy forecast tuesday. The only thing that can scupper this is if NZ bat first and bat **** on a flat deck!
By:
i reckon once the tv/radio coverage kicks in, the draw will go

I'm only a few miles from Headingley and no rain here for about an hour. It's windy,it's cold,it's dull so it's guesswork how today will go.There's rain forecast for around 10 o'clock then not much this aft so I think we'll get around 40 overs in today.....unless there's bad light!!!
By:
thanks artful
By:
looks like an early lunch then should be ok for rest of rhe day with maybe the odd shower

Laid a bit here - still large green draw but chance of some clear spells now today
By:
My guess is play to start around 3 o'clock. They can play until 7 so around 40 overs maybe?Might be a problem with the light but the weather is definitely set to improve as the day goes on.
Then a lot depends on the toss.....whoever wins it will probably stick the others in.England could well grind out 100 or so for maybe 1 or 2 down but New Zealand could well be 60 odd for 5! |
