Its a bonkers decision. He's done very little wrong.
Saffer players saying press have lied about the nature of the texts here. http://www.cricket.co.za/news_article.aspx?id=1722§ion=news&subsection=news_all |
By:
you've ignored the content of my post lix.
if he's done nothing wrong, and is so keen to play, then why has he failed to show the ecb the text messages, despite the extension granted to him in announcing the squad. |
By:
why should he show the ECB his private text messages? They think they know what they say anyway.
By:
ECB gave KP extra 6 hours (by delaying the announcement) to deny he sent any foul texts about captain Strauss. They tried repeatedly but found no answer from KP. Which means KP definitely texted bad things about his own captain to the opponents while a test match is going on. That should be good enough for a permanent ban from the England team.

why should he show the ECB his private text messages? They think they know what they say anyway you're still avoiding the question. why would he choose not to show them if it guaranteed his playing for england. |
By:
Looks like this texting business was the ECB's way of getting rid of KP and still (attempting) to keep the moral highground.
Could backfire if the texts arent actually true. I read Shane Warne's Twitter rant today and all the points he made were spot on |
By:
d13phe, ecb would not have put back the time of selection on Sunday if they were looking to get rid of kp.
Still everyone now thinks you are an anti establishment rebel for siding with kp, or maybe just plain stupid. |
By:
what a bizarre comment
Managing teams is all about managing individuals and egos. The ECB I fear have the biggest ego in this situation. If that makes me anti establishment or stupid in your eyes so be it. That is my opinion. |
By:
one day you might see the common denominator
By:
Are you able to post Warne's comments please d13?
One imagines they will not stand up to the scrutiny of team Eradicate.... Meanwhile, on the question posed by normally sensible poster Lix: "why should he show the ECB his private text messages?" The various reasons for this are too obvious to state, but he has not been asked to disclose personal information that is not relevant to his employment has he? |
By:
warne's comments, along with some spelling his kids would be ashamed of, can be found here.
http://twitter.com/warne888 like a few on here, he appears to be conveniently choosing to ignore the undefended allegation that he slagged off his captain and possible coach and selectors directly to the opposition, the facking opposition ffs, via sms. within the team, iffy. to the press, dangerous. to the facking opposition. seriously, how can anyone defend that. |
By:
Shane Warne @warne888
Team = all in it together as a unit But everyone is different, it's up to the leadership group to make everyone feel special & important We hope what Warne means here that it is important for team leaders to foster a healthy team environment where each person within the team is accorded the respect they are due, and team Eradicate would with that. This cannot include failing to deal with festering issues. In cricket, if a player is in any way detracting from your team performance, you don't want to reinforce the undesirable behaviour by making them feel special and important. Shane Warne @warne888 And... get the best out of the individual's & create an inviroment that people can be the best they can be.. That's leadership ! To reduce the role of leaders to these concepts alone is underselling the importance of a much wider range of leadership behaviours. Shane Warne @warne888 End result if you can achieve that.. A happy team heading in the one direction & allowing people to still be individuals... You are not going to achieve these ends by ignoring behaviour from team members that runs counter to the team's interests. d13 and "that's Shane to you.." consider yourself Eradicated. ![]() |
By:
Team Eradicate suspects that Kaye Pettysen has been removed from the England team at least partially for its own protection, after provoking a little displeasure recently.
Not altogether different from the Katich/Clarke remonstrance, we believe.... ![]() |

By:
Stuart Broad's bezzie mate Richard Bailey reveals he was behind the KP parody twitter account.
Presumably Broad will get a 1 match ban here too then.. ![]() |
By:
piers morgan on 5live now. said no texts were even sent to saffer players..
By:
Then why didn't KP tell ECB that he sent no derogatory texts?
By:
It is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard tbh
Even if he did send texts to his mates so what! these guys are opposition on the pitch and friends off the pitch. |
By:
would that be the same piers morgan who lost his job endangering our soldiers live by publishing fake photos of british soldier abusing iraqis
By:
maybe he didnt feel the need to justify himself
the ECB need KP more than he needs them |
By:
d13phe 13 Aug 12 21:54
maybe he didnt feel the need to justify himself come on d13phne. he didn't feel the need to justify himself but went to the lengths of producing that video? |
By:
Maybe because it suits him to be a martyr.
Bur seriously, where is Morgan getting his info from? Doctor Moosajee, of the South African contingent, confirmed that texts had been sent... P Morgan, and Lix, you have now been Eradicated. ![]() |
By:
dont eradicate the messenger
![]() ![]() |
By:
actually, i suppose it's possible that piers has been hacking kp's phone
in fact, that can't be right. he doesn't how it's done. ![]() |
By:
*doesn't know
By:
I think it is always hard to speculate when things have gone on over the scene but it is clear to me and has been for some time that Strauss and Flower want KP out of the team.
They don't like what they can't control. This is their opportunity and it has been taken. I also have the same feeling that Swann's dropping wasn't for cricketing reasons. |
By:
d13,
If you own a business in a very competitive industry, and I work for you, and you are informed(rightly or wrongly) that I have badmouthed you and/or members of your management team to staff at your main competitor at a critical time, would this not concern you at all? I don't even have to say it. ![]() |
By:
well, i'm going with occam's razor here d13phne
KP has said he desperately wants to play ECB ask him to provide evidence of messages sent to south africans. south africans confirm messages were sent. kp not forthcoming with the information that will allow him to participate; something which he is desperate to do. |
By:
Happens all the time
If the chap was my most valuable employee I would try to settle matters behind the scenes not make a public show of him and sack him. egos need to be managed. KP is no different. |
By:
ergo, revealing contents of messages would be more damaging than not.
By:
d13
If the chap was my most valuable employee I would try to settle matters behind the scenes not make a public show of him and sack him. Exactly how would you go about achieving all that if you came to a considered conclusion that the chap was possibly acting in a manner prejudicial to your(or your business or team's) best interests, and he failed to satisfy a reasonably put request to confirm that this was not the case? |
By:
very interesting that this is one of Broad's best mates who was behind the twitter, and there were details on the twitter account that must have come from inside the dressing room. is this not as much of an issue as KP texting the opposition? (if that even happened at all)
By:
It reminds me of the Botham days....Kp like Botham is the best player on the team, tells the captain what he wants to do ..open the batting, bowl a bit more etc..KP got the results so he can turn round and say what he likes...captain is now in a weaker position..management dont like it..backs captain and so player has to go. IMO..they should have stuck it out for one more match, wrap KP up in cotton wool until Lords and then after the game let it come out...now there are no winners apart from the Saffers..a poor reult from where I am sitting.

Notts connection (see cricinfo) a sinister new development. Hales, a massive beneficiary from Pietersen absence, apparently first follower of the infamous parody twitter account, set up by a guy who shares a house with 2 Notts players. Yet Swann has nowt do with it we are led to believe?
By:
England's had two outstanding batsmen in the last decade, and now Pietersen is joining Trescothick in the wilderness. All those expensive suits on the ECB can't find a way of accommodating KP in the same way they couldn't find a way of accommodating Tres.
What really annoys me is the way those suits same bask in the glory of England's recent successes as being due to their "Plan". As though figures of fun such as Geoff Miller and Ashley Giles have been anything more than lucky enough to be in charge of a number of very good England cricketers at just the right time. |
By:
i still think there's far too much discussion away from the singular reason the ecb has provided for his not being selected.
it would appear as though broad has been asked to explain himself this afternoon and responded directly to the ecb's request with the press release. i don't quite understand why Kevin has been unable to do the same. |
By:
despite agreeing with your comments about the management taking credit for their very good luck, those expensive suits did appear to find a way of bringing KP back into the side but KP chose not to comply.
By:
indeed they made an absolute pig's ear of the kp/moores fall out too but got lucky with andy flower. then you have stanford. how heads didn't roll over that debacle beggars belief

Media statement on behalf of Stuart Broad
14 August 2012 Email this page Ecb Logo Gutter Icon 135x160 The ECB today issued the following statement on behalf of Stuart Broad in relation to the setting up of a fake Twitter account for Kevin Pietersen by a member of the public. Broad said: “Following last night’s statement by Mr Richard Bailey that he was responsible for creating a fake Twitter account in Kevin Pietersen’s name, I would like to confirm that I had no involvement in this whatsoever. “I met with the Managing Director - England Cricket, Hugh Morris this morning and assured him that I did not play any role in the creation of this account or provide Mr Bailey with any information regarding Kevin Pietersen or the England team. “As has been widely reported Mr Bailey is a friend of mine, but we had no conversations regarding this issue at all and I am pleased that he has now decided to close the fake account down. “ ECB Managing Director Hugh Morris added: “Having discussed this matter with Stuart, I am fully satisfied that he acted in a professional manner at all times and did not breach any confidences regarding fellow England players. “ECB also accepts the apology Mr Bailey offered last night to the England team via his Twitter account and his reassurances that no professional cricketers were involved in the creation of this site.” |
By:
ECB to Broad - 'Have you said anything to your friend about England players?' - 'No.' Fair enough.
ECB to KP - 'We've heard you sent derogatory texts to SA players. Show us what they said' I know KP can be arrogant and stubborn, but he has done nothing wrong on this episode, whereas Broad clearly has. When will the bigwigs at the ECB just holp there hands up and admit they are a sorry shower of sh1te? |
By:
how do you know kp has done nothing wrong and broad clearly has?
Broad cannot defintively disprove his guilt but has attempted to; KP can and has not |
