IPL is only 7 weeks. KP will go insane out of the spotlight in the english summer. will be begging to return

Texts were to Steyn and de Villiers apparently

KP is hit and miss. Bairstow could easily rack up a 50 in both innings - not sure what all the fuss is about to be honest.
| ||||||||||||

He could always play for his county...

morgan should have been called in...

KP man of the match by miles last test. Bairstowe totally out of his depth against windies let alone
the saffer attack! this is a f ucking disaster Nige.
|
By:
It's not a total disaster if you've already been laying England.
![]() | ||||||||||||
|
By:
its only a disaster if you backed KP to be series top english batsman, 99% on here are profit led and have little patriotism, ok KP is one of the best in the world and entertaining but we will still get to see plenty of him
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
ECB have handled this well imo. KPs latest statement reconfirms his desire to play again for England but it has to be on the coach/selectors terms. If it weakens us for the final test, so be it.
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
Anyone got the stats on winning percentages in the games he has played in compared to ones he did not since he was first available for England? I remember some series being won without him - particularly in ODIs. Could it be with him gone the other players can emerge from his shadow?

KP's contribution to the team is immense and he'll be missed.
To play 2 rookies and having to move Bell to 4 (likely??) is hardly ideal against Steyn et al. In fact it sucks. He bowled well too. Sometimes a player's contribution has to be an irrelevance if he's too much of a problem off the field. This is one of those occasions.
|
By:
in the last 6 tests he's played 2 phenomenal innings which in all likelihood changed the results of both matches. didn't see the headingley knock but was in colombo. that innings was out of this world on that slow pitch where everyone else struggled to score at even 3 runs an over
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
One of the greatest innings in Colombo. Shame he is such a bell end.
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
I suspect there's more to the story than just the negatives being told about KP. He is the superstar of the England team. I think it's inevitable some other egos in the dressing room would feel jealously towards him.
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
He is very poorly advised
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
it's a great shame that KP won't be playing ...dear o dear what a shambles , you take the 149 out of headingley and england batsmen would have really struggled to save the second test ...wtf is going on

i like watching kp but it was the correct decision
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
Whatever has happened behind the scenes I am sure South Africa will be licking their lips at the prospect of Bairstow in for KP
whoever made that call needs their P45 ASAP. Probably the same person who decided to drop Swann on a turning track.

By:
Why are the saffer grasses not being revealed/hounded here?
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
Bell is better than KP anyway. Bell has always been superb against Steyn. KP is overrated. Bell is the better batsman.
| ||||||||||||
|
By:
Bye bye KP. He thought he could do anything he likes after that 149... well, he won't. Good job from ECB for busting his balls! KP's been humiliated.

@Max and Paddy, you have any actual arguments to prove how KP is better than Bell in test cricket? I would love to hear.

His 149 against South Africa last week - an innings that no other England player could produce. He bullied Morkel and Steyn.
His 151 against Sri Lanka in Colombo which was the most important factor behind our only Test win of the winter. His two double centuries in the last 20 months. His 20-odd Test centuries at an average of almost 50. His 158 on the final day at the Oval in 2005 as England won the Ashes for the first time in 16 years. But apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what has Kevin Pietersen ever done for us?

Bell better than KP

What about Bell's incredible 159 against India last summer at Nottingham? That was a wicket where everyone was struggling, until Bell unleashed the most masterful of strokes. We would've easily lost that match, and probably wouldn't get the no. 1 ranking, but for that innings.
What about the majestic 235 at the Oval in the same series. That was a pleasure to the eyes and elegant, compared to the luck ridded 158 from KP where he was dropped on 0, 15, and 60. What about Bell's 140 at Durban where he bossed Steyn and Morkel, and produced an amazing victory. What about his match saving 78 at Cape Town on day 5 to fend off Steyn and Morkel for the whole day under massive pressure. What about his herculean effort at the Oval where he ran out of partners in a bid to save England from the most unlikeliest of scenarios. Bell has been moved up and down the batting order throughout his career, and never been allowed to settle. Despite this he's scored 16 hundreds at 47, and the average can only go up. But most importantly, he has no ego despite being a great batsman, and has never caused troubles with any team-mates EVER. Sir Ian Bell is a true English hero -- selfless, modest, humble and classy.

Anyone got the stats on winning percentages in the games he has played in compared to ones he did not since he was first available for England? I remember some series being won without him - particularly in ODIs. Could it be with him gone the other players can emerge from his shadow? That is an interesting concept. Are you suggesting we judge players by the effect their presence and absence has on team results? That is ridiculous. It is like saying team results are the most important thing in cricket, which is laughable when you think about it. I suggest you go back to your insider trading and leave cricket to the real experts. Yes, Pietersen's presence does not cause England to win any more often than they do in his absence, but that is no reason to omit the king of team disruption. Afterall, Pietersen is England's BEST player, right? He is their only true match winner, right? Look at all the matches he has WON for England.....nobody else in the England team have won matches for England, have they? Take all those ODI's recently, nobody won those, they just sort of won themselves. I can see we need to straighten your thinking out Insider Trading, so, you can consider yourself.... Eradicated. ![]()

No one has said that Bell is a bad batsman. But to say he's better than Pietersen is just wrong.
What about Bell's incredible 159 against India last summer at Nottingham? That was a wicket where everyone was struggling, until Bell unleashed the most masterful of strokes. We would've easily lost that match, and probably wouldn't get the no. 1 ranking, but for that innings. Pietersen also made a half-century in that innings and put on 162 for the third wicket with Bell. What about the majestic 235 at the Oval in the same series. That was a pleasure to the eyes and elegant, compared to the luck ridded 158 from KP where he was dropped on 0, 15, and 60. Are you forgetting that Bell was out for a golden duck in 2005 (Pietersen had to face a hat-trick ball)? And while Bell was scoring 235 last year, Pietersen also made 175 in the same innings. What about Bell's 140 at Durban where he bossed Steyn and Morkel, and produced an amazing victory. The first major, match-winning innings of Bell's Test career - more than five years after he made his début. What about his match saving 78 at Cape Town on day 5 to fend off Steyn and Morkel for the whole day under massive pressure. Pietersen did an almost identical job in scoring 81 in the first Test of that series. What about his herculean effort at the Oval where he ran out of partners in a bid to save England from the most unlikeliest of scenarios. I think "Herculean" might be stretching it a bit! And I note you are ignoring his first innings dismissal in that match, when he left a straight ball.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke! The guy is an egotistical , unpleasant narcissist who would do the dirty on his grandmother if he thought there was a few quid in it.
Not one word of apology or contrition for the way he has behaved. Thought he was bigger than the game and the game has come back and kicked his sorry little arse. Delighted.

Bell did struggle in the early years. I agree. But in the last 3 years, since being recalled to the England side, he has been the best English batsman, as his clearly superior average in that period suggests. Therefore, right now, he is without doubt better than KP. By the end of his career he will have easily overtaken KP in every statistical category.

Think kp could have slept with flowers mrs and some would say, yep but he got 149 last week.
Correct decision, however good a player he is.

certainly some shocking double standards in operation here

what happens if Steyn suddenly says in the press he's been texting Trott as well? Does Trott get dropped as well? While I agree it won't be great for the dressing room having Pietersen there, the positives far outweigh the positives. As I've said before (and I hope I'm wrong), there's no way Bairstow is an international quality player

no one even knows what the texts said.. I'm sure swann didnt text any of his mates when he was dropped for the last test... i imagine none of us know, but KP knows as do the recipients. the selection announcement was deliberately delayed with the sole intention of providing KP time to confirm the content of the messages. now, if he's so keen to play for england, why did he not comply with this request? the most likely answer is because they contained highly derogatory remarks about people who he has to work with and under. and that his releasing them would be more damaging than not complying with the request. the correct decision was made by the ECB, and let's wait until the end of this test before we start lamenting the absence of his supposedly exclusive ability to win a match for england. |
