Presumably the result of negotiations over the last few days.

Wonder how much ODI cricket he'll actually play. Would guess that's the quid pro quo from England management

"I've been through a very difficult period." he said.
"But I am fully committed - and passionate - about playing for England in all three forms of the game."
Pietersen, who had announced his retirement from limited-overs internationals in May, said he wanted to give "confirmation and clarity" about his future.
"I'm not going anywhere," he said. "I want to commit to all forms of cricket for England, because I love playing for England.

it seems like the rather unnecessary game from brinkmanship has finally ended with KP backing down.

which was the right decision.

i hope the ecb now make the right one too.

more to come on this i reckon. v odd you tube release the night before the squad announced. Is he maybe just trying to have the first word before we hear a different view from the ECB tomorrow??

ecb have changed the timing of the announcement of the squad; presumably in response to this.

i suppose the question is whether this video is a response to his being told he was dropped earlier today.

Interviewer:  "You've had a change of heart, why....?"

Kaye Pettysen:  "I've had a change of heart because I love playing for England."

Sorry Mr Pettysen, we at team Eradicate do not accept that as an adequate explanation of your change of heart.  We find it is more likely you had a change of heart because you realise the bargaining position you imagined you had, and thought you could abuse, was not so strong after all.

Pettysen:  you have been Eradicated.  Cool

ecb 1 kp 0

KP blinked first.

This video shows how worried he was about being ditched

I'd score it KP 1 ECB 0 if he continues to be picked and receives another central contract.

Very few England players would get away with speaking their opinions so publicly without finding the axe falling on them. In the past, it's been enough to keep players out of the international side permanently.

Hes asked to play 20/20 and not 50 over - Hasnt got his way
He wanted to miss nz tests to play ipl - hasnt got his way

He and his management team have now been forced to put this video out in panic as looked like england career would be over as looking like could have been dropped.

In end hes said he will play all formats when asked to. Ecb have won this battle, theyve given up nothing.

Will be interesting to see if ECB have given up anything. I still suspect that we will see KP rested from quite a few ODI squads and I wouldn't be surprised if he missed the odd less high profile test tour (e.g. NZ away next Winter). That said, clearly ECB come out of this way ahead of KP.
By:

SY seems to know they have given up nothing. So I guess that's the end of the matter.
By:

KP well within his rights to ask for less international cricket given others in Eng squad have missed games and
tours before no probs. The ECB would be a bit miffed if he then signed up for more T20 leagues tho.

I bet Steyn, Philander and Morkel must be licking their lips at a middle order of Bell, Taylor, Bairstow.
Seems simple doesn't it, release a statement saying you've received a few texts from the oppo's best batsman b1tching about his teammates and get him dropped.

Kp is englands best bat,  they have no chance without him, my world t20 english red will remain until hes back.  Think this is getting quite sad now.

Goodbye number one ranking. England never deserved it in the first place.

what a joke the ecb are... he commits to england then they drop him... if i was kp id now quit all forms and let england slide
By:

When: 12 Aug 12 16:00
If he did indeed send texts to the oppo criticising his own skipper, I'm not sure what else the ECB could have done.

I wonder if the texts had anything to do with last week's batting order that saw KP open with Bell, Prior and Taylor held back.
By:

When: 12 Aug 12 16:02
i think the ecb have been pretty clear haven't they?

they've explicitly stated that they delayed the selection announcement by five hours so pietersen could confirm the content of the text messages sent to the south africans.

he hasn't done that.

so they can really only assume that the rumours were true if pietersen isn't prepared to disprove them.

if they can't convince the dressing room that pietersen isn't directly slagging off the captain, selectors and coach directly to the opposition, can you really include him?

and the soap opera continues.

ECB are between a rock and a hard place.
The text debacle is the final straw, for the sake of the rest of the team they had no choice but to leave him out.
imo of course.
By:

He's probably been slagging them off to the saffers cos they leaked his contract discussions to the media.

When: 12 Aug 12 16:31
Let's just hope any players who might have wanted KP out really perform at the top of their game next week.

If that England middle order gets blown away cheaply twice, well....  Laugh

Pressure definitely on them.
