means we'll get a sh1t slow deck then...
Cant remember any time in recent years when a load of rain has lead to a spicy pitch. |
By:
i think your right
it will probably do things but very slowly |
By:
it's sunny in Leeds at the moment isn't it? According to the forecast anyway?
Rain is forecast during the rest of the week though. Shame there was no test during the week of summer last week! Long time since there's been a draw here anyway. Pre match verdict, should Bairstow or Morgan have been in the squad ahead of Taylor. I'm aware that he's talented but is it right to keep giving players a couple of tests then moving on (yes i know morgan had more!). Any chance Finn will come in as 5th bowler or is TAylor nailed on? |
By:
absolutely no chance they'll change the 6 batsmen followed by prior. only thing they might consider is finn for bresnan. england don't make panic changes these days and rightly so
By:
Think this is probably a wait and see what happens for me, toss and conditions on the first day could be pretty important, overcast and you would expect whoever wins the toss will bowl, and maybe nip a two or three out early doors.
By:
we've played 5 bowlers twice in tha past 5 yrs at Headlingley vs SA in 2008 and Aus in 2009 and got battered twice so it aint happening here..
By:
But obvs Finn HAS TO PLAY here. will SEETHE if he isnt
By:
Is Headingley still without floodlights?
Also i can't remember, what is the drainage like these days? Thanks |
By:
drainage is sh1te
By:
what happend to tremlett?
By:
Tremlett last played in the first test of the disastrous (for tests anyways)England vs. Pak 3 test tour of Dubai , bowled 21 overs got no wickets , and only scored 1 run with the bat from 2 innings, so i don't reckon he's in with a shout
By:
wasnt he playing evry time before that, he as only left out due to an eye infection wasnt he?
By:
Tremlett still coming back from injury. Think he had a reaction to bowling for Surrey, so doubt he'll be available for England this year.

First look at this - rain looks awful, particularly Saturday and Monday. Surprised draw is still over evens - so that's my opening gambit at 2.45 on BET DAQ

By:
metoffice has friday/sat/sunday all heavy rain.. draw will hit odds on at somepoint..
By:
Does it? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/?lsContainer=Enter+place+name+or+postcode&locWidget=352241&buttonRecent=Update
Showing light/sunny int/heavy over thurs/fri/sat |

i have looked at about 4 different forecasts and they all have showers, cold and not much wind - terrible for cricket and drainage.
i don't often get on the rain bandwagon as you all know but I don't think it is looking too good at all. hope im wrong. |
By:
I'm on the draw too. (Probably why it has drifted) It does look like plenty of interruptions if the forecasts are half right. Hopefully just a matter of time before it trades odds on!

By:
not much rain on days 1 and 2 tho. could be helpful bowling conditions. I'd wait for a bigger price on the draw. should rain a fair bit on sat imo
By:
I am on the draw with the posibility of losing a days play, maybe more. I have heard the pitch if flat and slow so as long as cloud cover doesn't enhance any swing I think a result might prove difficult.
By:
bizarre price on the draw - Thurs, Sat and Sun currently lots of rain.
By:
worth noting that the market has done this a few times recently - just slow to react occasionally.
By:
Thursday lots of rain? Not a lot different to Friday is it?
By:
0.5 - 3.3 mm for Thursday between 12:00 and 6pm, Friday - 0.2mm
By:
Thanks nigelpm1, on draw also - what site is your rain mm info from please.
By:
there's lots. My favourite (for UK only though - hopeless for SL for example) :

By:
Thanks nice, I like the look of Sunday at this stage especially!!
By:
P.S. betting based on weather forecasts is dangerous and should only be utilised where you also believe a draw is a possiblity with little/no rain
By:
yeah, if Sunday's forecast doesn't change it looks like being a total washout.
By:
not this again nige..
![]() rain = showers. washout pretty unlikely this time of year. |
By:
ha ha! we'll see.
By:
The Temp forecast is improving for the weekend which could help.
I have laid the Saffers to start. Cannot see them playing that well again and England playing that poorly again. |
By:
The BBC weather forecast has worsened from yesterday with rain predicted Thus and Fri afternoons and now most of Sat and Sun. The temp is also cool at around 14C so I'm hoping there won't be much swing either
I have taken the draw already and am happy to sit back and for once not enjoy the cricket! |
By:
beware backing the draw based on long range weather forecasts.
a recent example, England v Aus odi Durham sat 7th july saw no weather interruptions, on thursday 5th the met office site (as reliable as any imo)had heavy rain forecast throughout the day ,completed match no traded at sub 1.5 from memory , by friday 6th forecast had changed somewhat to possible showers and by match day the forecast was overcast. not saying it wont rain a lot at headingley but im 12 miles from the ground so i will factor the weather into my betting from thursday onwards. |
By:
Going ante post is a gamble but then that is what we are doing here. I have read that the Headingly pitch is playing low and slow. The real gamble for me is whether or not the ball will swing and that one cannot be called until the ball is bowled.
Both attacks have the ability to rip out the other side in the right conditions equally both have the ability to bat on through 500. If there is rain there is an option to lay the draw. If it doesn't then the match is played over 5 days with the potential of a see saw in odds to clear any long position. I'd say calling either side is impossible. The SA attack looked limp on the Thursday then the game changed on Friday when the sun went in and it became clear Saturday and Sunday were going to be warm. I switched from backing the draw to South Africa. I got real lucky, the game should have been a draw but England threw it away as much as SA won it. |
By:
weather just looks very unsettled for the whole test. should be plenty of stoppages but its an old
adage of test betting to sell batsmens runs under grey skies at Headingley. no draw here since the 90s. Conditions are gonna be huge. trade the conditions and you should be ok. wont get dark up north this time of year so play is possible till 7.30pm if we lose time through showers. |
By:
looking at the current prices nothing interests me ,so i shall look for opportunities in play , if draw hits 1.7ish early ill probably lay it and the team batting first id probably lay if they hit 2.5ish after a steady start but only early thoughts
By:
im surprised that the Saffers are favoured over England
This will be a totally different experience for them. they are also probably the most inconsistent team in the world. |
By:
Most books now 2.38 - 2.4, once the remaining 2.5 goes should see 2.46 ish on here?
What's an idea of the draw price with sun out at 1055 tomorrow morning? |
