and when it happened the once before, there was probably someone saying, oooh thats never happened before

Also might be worth factoring in the damage this afternoon's rain is likely to do to the outfield. I know it drains well, but it will certainly need too!

By:
Draw backers might panic a bit when they hear that Chanderpaul might not play
By:
hmm. I'm certainly not ramping - just putting the argument out there. However, I reckon it probably is a no go so back to weather watching. Things have worsened so any movement back over 1.35 might tempt me in again. Outfield should be ok with drainage but might delay action.

it is a shame when someone comes in with a contrarian view that they immediately get held up as a "ramper". More knowledge is useful and when in a position I'm always happy for someone to tell me why I'm wrong. I don't have to believe it.

hasn't the outfield been relaid since 2009 when day 1 started after tea despite sunshine all day ?
By:
yeah, huge developments have taken place however there's only so much rain a pitch can take no matter what drainage you've got

I support nigel, why shouldn't he offer a different view. Not ramping at all.
By:
ramping is what MM does - comes on and talks about free money blah blah blah
By:
I'll have a go
Thur - Gawn Fri - 35 overs Sat - 80 overs Sun - 90 overs mon - 80 overs 285 overs left |

Lix - you know where Edgbaston is on that map don't you? ;-) In fairness your guess is as good as mine.

Well, I think anyone backing the draw on day one is brave.
How would you feel with England's seamers bowling at a Chanderpaul-less Windies batting line-up in helpful conditions? |
By:
do they have dial up still?
By:
Backing at 1.30 on day one, that is

My updated forcasts for tomorrow are looking worse....
By:
Lix - what site are you using? My guess is the movement from 1.39 to 1.3 is mainly about tomorrow's forecast which has deteriorated.

BM- what's the latest we can play to? 7.00pm or 7.30pm? light wont be a problem this time of year
By:
Since the series has been decided is there any chance of captain's agreeing to make it a 1 innings game?
By:
Latest today would be 7.30pm (6pm plus one hour to make up time plus 30 mins to get in overs) - but must be playing at 6pm.
All subsequent days will be 98 overs - so 6.30pm plus 30 mins = 7pm |
By:
CS - read back in the thread - debated to death - consensus is that it's very unlikely/not going to happen.
By:
cheers. was hoping we could play to 7.30pm every day now to make up the time.
By:
I will read back...................................right now!
By:
Looks like it will be very windy tomoz, so that should at least help to dry out the surface....unless it's raining of course

Think they might be able to play until 8pm on the next four days.
This is how... Scheduled play is 11-6.30pm to bowl 98 overs. But, if more than an hour is lost on the actual day, they can add 60 mins. That makes the playing time 11-7.30pm. Plus an extra 30 mins to get in all the overs, so 8pm finish! |
By:
Good find BigMig - I'll neeed to adjust my over prediction based on this.
By:
Surely they can start 30 mins earlier as well?
By:
Never start early in England - unlike other Test countries

Good ole Blighty - the one place (along with NZ of course) where it would be most helpful as well
By:
well that would be nice BM!
They used to start at 10.45am didnt they? |
By:
Aren't the rules on close of play different on Day 5?
By:
10.30 when it was on channel 4. sky like to waffle on for half an hour first though
By:
Okay. Slight adjustment to earlier comments.
Because 30 mins has already been added to make up time from previous days, only another 30 mins (not an hour) can be added to make up for time lost on the actual day. So on days 2-5, if it rains for more than hour, it will be 11-6.30, plus 30 mins, plus another 30 mins to get in the overs. Latest finish 7.30pm |
By:
day 5 they'll bowl all 98 overs as long as it takes. there's no cut off point.
By:
Mafe - the 10.30 start was so they could fit in the Tour de France coverage in the early evening, I believe!
By:
good point maf. will still be playable till 9pm you'd think this time of year if the skies are clear
