elise - did the male Taekwondo player win?
By:
yes he won, stevenson lost
By:
also fancy 4x400m women might have a squeak
By:
did he win easily? Lots of controversy about that selection. Saw the girl - got caned.
By:
Not easily. He was 0-0 well into the final round but landed a couple of head shots. Didn't look like he was going to get hit too often but will need to improve to win a medal.
By:
yep agree, not easy but he looked solid, the spanish guy up next looks like a proper test
By:
was just listening to canoe expert on 5Live - confident of at least two medals
By:
blitz the semi
By:
mckeever looks absolutely nailed for a medal and probably gold

I've gone through the schedule/form and line-ups to provide you guys with the data where hopefully you can see where you are and hopefully make an informed decision on any betting on the medals going forward.
I've not had a bet myself and don't intend to in this market so this is unbiased. Guaranteed: Boxing: Luke Campbell - Bantamweight. Time 14:00 - 14:26 Anthony Ogogo - Middleweight Time 15:00 - 15:26 Fred Evans - Men's Welterweight (69kg) Time 21:30 - 21:56 Anthony Joshua - Super Heavyweight Time 22:30 - 22:56 Sailing: Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell - Mens 470 Sailing Time: 12:00 - 12:30 Mills and Saskia Clark - Womens 470 Time 13:00 - 13:30 Total 6 Guaranteed. Other medal prospects in Time Order: Canoe Sprint - Ed Mckeever Today: 11:20 Canoe Sprint 200m - Richard Jefferies Today 11:30 - 11:51 Canoe Sprint 200m - Jessica Walker - Today 11:51 - 12:12 Canoe Sprint 200m Double Heath/Schofield Today - 12:12 BMX rider Shanaze Reade Today 15:00 Syncro Swimming Womens Team - Today 15:00 - 15:59 BMX Mens Liam Phillips - Today 15:08 - 16:16 80kg Taekwondo - Lutalo Muhammad Today 15:45 Womens Hockey Today 15:30 - 16:40 Taekwondo Sarah Stevenson - 17:15 Steve Lewis - Pole Vault Today - 19:00 Sophie Hitchon - Hammer Final - 19:35. Good chance of at least Bronze from form shown in qualification/prelim rounds: 1 Medal from the 4 chances in Canoe Sprint 80kg Taekwondo - Lutalo Muhammad 1 Medal from either Mens Pole Vault or Womens Hammer Lisa Dobriskey - 1500m Tom Daley - Diving. Mo Farah - 5000m My informed forecast total = 64 Medals. Secondary Prospects: Womens Hockey Team BMX rider Shanaze Reade Forecast range 61-66 Hopefully this is helpful. |
By:
you missed out the modern pentathlon
By:
Ok Sorry.
I'd add 1 medal for Mhairi Spence to the forecast total. 65 Medals. |
By:
lol Hitchon is a mile off in the Hammer.
1 medal from either Men's Pole Vault OR 4 x 400 is much more realistic OR Dobriskey is much more realist |
By:
good list , 10k swimmer hasn't got a great chance but he goes today, he'd be only a slim hope
By:
Yes I've only included those who have the form or ability to challenge for medals.
By:
jeffries up next, let's hope
By:
err nope
By:
I've been impressed with Liam Phillips in the BMX.
Quiet runs in second, knows he didn't have to break his neck to qualify, done what was necessary. |
By:
I think Ed Mckeever is the only realistic chance for a medal in the Canoe's.
BBC were talking Heath/Schofield Double up, but their time was 6th best overall in the 2 semi's, although their semi was slower and they did finish 2nd. Hard to tell at this point. |
By:
Problem with the BMX is anything can happen and it can become a lottery.. That pile up on the bend Yesterday/Weds was ridiculous.
By:
shanaze reade didnt place top 3, and phillps fell off
. on the plus side i managed to lay 1.17 on overs before it went |
By:
Worrying day for overs backers so far with the taekwondo and BMX. Hockey girls looking good though.
By:
hopefully won't blow this from here, that would be one of the possibles converted, mckeever looks good for the finals but the rest of the day has been a let down so far
By:
If 4x400m or Dobrisky get a medal then I think it's been an ok day. If not then it's dodgy. McGiver (lol) will medal so it's 3 required. If we get a medal in athletics tonight then it'll be 2 required. Mo will prob medal and then it's one. That's a probable with Daley, Mountain bike and modern pent to come. Crucial that we pick up a medal on the track tonight tho I think
By:
...oh, and no one has mentioned the 4x400m women. I think they have a squeak.
By:
Still a chance of bronze for Muhammad in the repechage now the Spaniard is into the final.
By:
GB battling with Jamaica for 4x400m women bronze
By:
4 x 100 m relay men DQ
By:
obviously I feel. Total gash. Need the coaches to get a hold on them, but they're scared of the personalities. Might be better when Chambers and Malcolm turn it in.
By:
muhammad into the bronze medal fight
By:
should be another medal in the bag here.
By:
fair play to him. under enormous pressure through no fault of his own really
By:
agreed. Still think it should've been Cook though
By:
How does this repechage work? The italian losing semi finalist still has a fight. Has Muhammad definitely got a bronze?
By:
yes berto. Two bronzes awarded
By:
as i understand it everyone who gets beat by one of the finalists even if it's in the first round goes into the reperchage with the 2 losing semi finalists and you end up with 2 bronze medallists
By:
Thanks, awarding 2 bronzes would explain my confusion. Seems a bit generous!
By:
Awarding 2 bronzes does seem generous. Same as in the boxing, why don't the 2 losing semi finalists just have a bronze medal fight instead of both getting one?
By:
its a long story but is the same in most combat sports
and is perfectly fair reasoning being you lost to the gold/silver medallist early and might have got further had you not met him til later |
By:
What the taekwondo fella got a bronze despite losing in the quarter finals? Go figure.
