both taekwondo fighters today are in the semi final too
By:
So they have two fights to medal, have to admit i was sweating a little bit before the dressage.
By:
jade jones beats the favourite guaranteed silver
By:
Jade Jones guaranteed at least a silver. So thats 12 more medals needed of which 7 are now guaranteed, 5 needed.
By:
so what's left? 5000m men. 800m men. 1500m women. 4x400 men. 4x400 women. I think from that lot we'll get two medals. Then we have the two hockey teams. Men have two chances of a medal, the women one. I think one medal from those. I think the Taekwondo guy will get the bronze. So that's 4. One to go. BMX? Modern Pentathlon? Mountain biking? Two more chances in Taekwondo. Think it's nailed on. Think we might have a chance in Canoe / Kayak too.

i hope so i've got a fairly big liability on unders, and my green on overs has shrunk this week to. 5 medals seems like it should come in though
By:
taekwondo bronze fight next up, then the silver gold womens, hockey is going west
By:
theres massive gaps in the market, what do you think the prices should be atm?
By:
no medal in the mens taekwondo
![]() |
By:
gonna be extremely tight. Home advantage should pull the overs thru. A lot depends on Farah (obviously).
By:
That was unfortunate, although we have met my upper prediction of 3 medals today. I also didn't realise that in taekwondo even if you lose in your first round match you still have a chance to win bronze.
By:
Watch out for the Russians, historically they get as big as 80% of their total medal count in the last 5 days of competition. They shouldn't catch GB now though.
By:
only got around 23 golds last time. not a cat in hell's chance they catch us
By:
Farah yes, but don't see us getting any more Athletics medals. Hockey probably one medal. Not sure about the other 3 "win every time"? I think it will indeed be very tight - think the patriotic vote is getting carried away a bit ... probably finish on 59-60 or the agonising 61/62!
By:
Wild - still got shots in Taekwondo, bmx, mountain biking, modern pentathlon, the relays (where anything can happen). Personally think they'll make 64 / 65
By:
what about the canoeing?
By:
3 medals today, quite happy with that if Im honest i wasn't expecting anymore.
Tomorrows medal chances, we have the end of the sailing and more boxing medals decided but these are already guaranteed. We have a male marathon swimmer where i suppose anything can happen but by all accounts he is not expected to medal. More realistic chances are 2 in taekwondo and 1 in womens hockey. On to the athletics, we have a chance in the mens pole vault, how great a chance i dont know, we wont be expected to medal in the 5000m and there is a chance also in the 1500m, and what i think is a pretty decent chance in the 4 x 400m relay. I would hope for 2/3 tomorrow. It is also the canoe/kayak heats and semis tomorrow morning so will be interesting to see if we get any decent chances of a medal in those respective events, from reading around the lines it seems as though we have at least 1 good chance. |
By:
Completely forgot both male and female BMX riders, personally think its a bit of a lottery after watching it today, but we might get lucky i no reade is ranked as one of the worlds best.
By:
yes sudoko is going to be tight
shame a few that were in the bag went missing along the way but equally there have been bonuses like team gymnastics bronze, matt whitlock pommel bronze and Alan Campbell single scull bronze which could have gone the other way don't forget Tom Daley diving too |
By:
Mo Farah should medal, that leaves us needing 4, with tomorrows chances in my previous post, and then any canoe/kayak medals, tom daley, and the modern pentathlon to come.
By:
and Modern Pentathlon, the last event of the entire games
By:
It's going to be VERY tight. Wouldn't be totally surprised if we don't medal at all today (less guarenteed medals). I'd be happy with 2.
By:
think we might get two today (in addition to the 470s sailing and boxing), then the canoe & bmx progress is needed for later finals on sat etc
the two are from athletics, 10k swim, taekwondo, womens hockey i think it's tight too |
By:
elsie, I think the Taekwondo is crucial. One medal is deffo needed there. Watching the heat in 5k the other day I don't think Farah is nailed on for a medal - although if I had to put my house on it I'd still say he'll get some metal. I guess the point is that I woulkdn't say any of the remaining shouts are certainties. NZ women looked v. good when narrowly falling to the Dutch in the Semis of the womens hockey.
Does anyone know what the chances of medals in Modern Pent are? |
By:
I wouldn't bank on the Men's hockey team.,
By:
...and does daley have a realistic chance to madal?
By:
*medal lol
By:
yeah, the hockey was embarrasing
By:
agree on the hockey, i'd be hoping for dobriskey & the mens 4x400 from athletics to get one and hopefully the taekwondo, but they all look really tough
mckeever this morning is a real chance for tomorrows final but he's got to deliver, same for reade in the bmx surprise might be the 10k swimmer, fingers crossed |
By:
womens hockey i'm refering to, sorry
By:
yeah Els, Dobriskey looked quite good didn't she? What always worries me with her though is that she just seems a bit too 'nice' to really fight for a medal, if you see what I mean?
By:
oh dear. British guy likes to 'hang on'. lol. And yet he's 'one of the gold medal favourites'! Doesn't instill too much confidence, that!
By:
hmmm - that sounds ok tho :)
By:
So we're currently on 52 medals but how many more are actually guaranteed? Is it 4 or 5 in the boxing?
By:
Biscuit, we have 52 medals with another 6 guarenteed (boxing / sailing). That leaves us requiring another 5.
By:
Just checked for you, it now stands at 4 GB boxers in semi's. It was 5 yesterday but Nicola Adams now makes it 4. The names: Bantamweight Luke Campbell, Welterweight Fred Evans and Middleweight Anthony Ogogo are in last-four action today alongside Anthony Joshua.
By:
Ok thanks.
So the question is where do the other 5 come from? Farah, 4x400 relay, BMX, Tom Daley, Mens & womens possible bronzes in hockey, anything in the canoeing? Going to be very tight. |
By:
mckeever was very quick in heats of k1 200m, taekwondo a mixed start
By:
looks like a medal in kayak after this morning (Olympic Record in singles 200m). Still got a chance in Taekwondo. Then there's also Modern Pentathlon.
