Mr Cummings is not a health scientist infact a nobody but a political advisor; a member of SAGE (I believe) resigned; CMO of Scotland resigned over breaking lockdown advice yet Mr Cummings of no usefulness to the tackling of Covid-19 got off scot-free. Shocking!

Firstly he broke no rules unlike those two.

Secondly he was not all over the media promoting the ridiculous lockdown of healthy young people which the other two were doing.

Those attempting to defending the indefensible do you really think he had NO ALTERNATIVE but to travel 260 miles?

It was a question put to Boris but like all the others he seemed to forget to answer it.

And this before you consider the secondary allegations about second visits which Boris didn't directly deny.

Putting political persuasion aside this smacks of hypocrisy and cronyism; one rule for joe public, and another for government inner circle.

Genuinely, it smacks of someone who pushes the boundaries and interpretation of guidelines. If other people were stricter with them than he was that's up to them.

Who this guidance is for
This guidance is for people planning to visit second homes or holiday premises during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People should remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk.

Read further travel guidance for British citizens travelling abroad and foreign travel advice for each country.

all the bootlickers on here still failing to see this is the issue. many apolitical people or those who don't follow the news would have felt Cummings' actions to be understandable but disappointing if it followed with an apology or disciplinary action

the government rallying round to say that it's fine to do something the guidelines said you shouldn't do just creates this attitude

The reasons you may leave home include:

For work, where you cannot work at home
Going to shops that are permitted to be open - to get things like food and medicine
To exercise or spend time outdoors
Any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid illness or injury, escape risk of harm, or to provide care or help to a vulnerable person
