Will they ever learn? Chinese markets are still selling bats and slaughtering rabbits on blood-soaked floors as Beijing celebrates 'victory' over the coronavirus

Terrified dogs and cats crammed into rusty cages. Bats and scorpions offered for sale as traditional medicine. Rabbits and ducks slaughtered and skinned side by side on a stone floor covered with blood, filth, and animal remains.
Those were the deeply troubling scenes yesterday as China celebrated its 'victory' over the coronavirus by reopening squalid meat markets of the type that started the pandemic three months ago, with no apparent attempt to raise hygiene standards to prevent a future outbreak.
As the pandemic that began in Wuhan forced countries worldwide to go into lockdown, a Mail on Sunday correspondent yesterday watched as thousands of customers flocked to a sprawling indoor market in Guilin, south-west China.
Here cages of different species were piled on top of each other. In another meat market in Dongguan, southern China, another correspondent photographed a medicine seller returning to business on Thursday with a billboard advertising bats – thought to be the cause of the initial Wuhan outbreak – along with scorpions and other creatures.
The shocking scenes came as China finally lifted a weekslong nationwide lockdown and encouraged people to go back to normal daily life to boost the flagging economy. Official statistics indicated there were virtually no new infections.
The market in Guilin was packed with shoppers yesterday, with fresh dog and cat meat on offer, a traditional 'warming' winter dish.

The Black Death/bubonic plague is a virus originating from China. Thus, the plague of 1606, the Great Plague of 1665, Hong Kong flu, avian flu, swine flu, SARS - they are all viruses originating from the insistence of huge numbers of Chinese people that every possible kind of animal must be slaughtered side-by-side. And, most importantly, must be slaughtered in front of their eyes with no regard to hygiene and absent any kind of regulation.
The dreadful 'Spanish' flu of 1918 originated among Chinese workers in Canada, but Angoose told me that this isn't proof Chinese people were responsible, and I must be anti-Chinese. So there. |

What we need to do For all our Luvvie Friends who castigated the Poor woman , is when this is all over invite them to a Banquet of Chinese Cuisine
Lovely traditional food , in celebration of the Virus being Defeated , Seat them and serve , and Just prior to them starting to eat ,inform them the food was sourced from a Chinese Wet Market ... I wonder how Much would be consumed ? it would be a Picture watching their faces if they took one mouthful ....   |

China covering it up is more to blame than the wet markets. They have been eating every part of every animal for centuries. I think action will be taken against them for covering it up primarily, not for the state of their wet markets, which will be almost impossible to police and you can't be 100% certain that it came from there. I still think it's as likely to have come from their disease 'research' lab in Wuhan.

swine flu is American.
Most recent outbreak originated in Mexico. There have been numerous outbreaks of swine flu over the last century. The 2009 outbreak (or the Cath22 virus as we know it here on Chit Chat) did first appear there. But the H1N1 virus in question first switched between humans and pigs in the 1918 'Spanish' flu. Which brings us back to those Chinese workers in whom it was first noted. |

Haven't they suggested that Spanish Flu started with the troops being sent to stationing bases in France where there was also kept all the livestock for the troops , in close proximity.

The Mail really is doing its utmost to ensure we blame everyone except for the thousands of deaths except the PM who sat on his hands for two weeks and let people come into this country from known hotspots without even testing if they had a temperature.

don't think we should stop buying stuff from China, workers in these factories making cheap toys and the like would be destitute without those jobs, it's a cultural thing as it's a country with no public shaming mentality, down to Mr Xi to end such practices, but when you see China getting back to work and the rest of world closing down, maybe he's content to let it carry on

I think one or two are missing the point here:
Vast numbers of people in China revel in watching cats and dogs and frankly anything that moves being butchered alive. And vast numbers of Chinese people revel in wading through piles of entrails, then dying sickening deaths themselves. |

Well this virus came from China, they are responsible, nobody else When this over China owes the World an apology They also need to be told they east what the rest of the World eat, it may be overly nutritious, but it does not kill us by the thousand. If they don't we quarantine China, I don't they make cheap goods for us, but there are other countries which would do this given the chance China CLEAN UP YOUR ACT on what you eat and on animal welfare issues!!!!!! |

I hope the Chinese government will be asked to pay for a ig portion to clean up Covid-19 otherwise ban them from trading worldwide. it's because of their intransigence, secrecy and slowness to act (within Wuhan) the virus have spread worldwide because of the movements of their citizens around the world.

yes case....we must allow greyhounds to leave this country...even if we have to put them to sleep humanely, that is a fair better death I have never signed any petition against trainers having their dogs euthanized humanely, and never will.... because I knew what the alternatives may be... THEY SHOULD NOT GO TO SPAIN |
