I have been meaning to do this thread for years after reading umpteen mistakes that men do, but I usually prefer playing poker to getting abuse on here.  But today I have a terrible cold, so can't play poker as I can't think straight and I have also had a glass of wine which I normally do not do until the evening!

Don't show your nasty side!

Women are usually much nicer than men so it can come as quite a shock when you say something that to you is commonsense but to a woman is horrible.

For instance, I had been with a man for about seven years, off and on, he was funny, was a self employed multi trade builder and he spoilt me.  But one day we were driving and he had to stop to let an old woman cross the road.  She was very slow to cross and then he then went into a tirade about how women like that should not be allowed out!!  I left him shortly after.

Delta, a lot of women rate  a man making them laugh one of the top reasons for attraction.

DancingBrave, not all women are like that.

The reverse of don't show your nasty side is being nice!

I will always remember an ex of mine who managed a shop.  One day an old woman fell badly outside his shop.  It had nothing to do with the shop but he helped the old woman and called an ambulance and waited with her until it came.  H even went to the hospital and took flowers to check up on her!  That counted for a lot with me.

NOT wiping your old fella on the curtains has to be a recipe for long-term relationship success, surely?

I agree with you, DancingBrave, that women are attracted to 'bad boys' but they don't stay with them.

A line by the late great Leonard Cohen in one of his songs..."A man never got a women back, not by begging on his knees" and i believe this to be true.

Alone here in the kitchen
I feel there's something missing
I'd beg for some forgiveness
But begging's not my business

True, DancingBrave.

If a woman leaves you do not beg.  But be friends, she might always come back. I love that Carole King song, you've got a friend.

a little drink and bet, and they dont like it!

And now she's two years older
Her mother's with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling Grin

I can't imagine a genuinely nice woman objecting to a 'little drink and a bet'.  Maybe when it becomes a drinking problem and the money to feed the kids then there could be an issue.

The one sure-fire way of attracting a woman in my experience is to be going out with another one.

the more attractive a woman is, the less tolerant she tends to be unless the man has money /a good occupation in which case she is more tolerant .

an 'unattractive' woman will put up with practically anything in a man ...and that is really quite unfortunate    Plain

and correct ,'nice' men will rarely get anywhere .

A bloke should just be himself and live for himself ,not try to 'woman please' as so many blokes do   ...if said man meets a nice woman on his way then that's a bonus

Learn to be funny, it can be taught

I have a weakness for men who make me laugh and it regularly comes top of women's wish list.  There are places that teach you to be funny.  I have learnt over the many years with men that you can learn to be funny.  Timing is so important.  It is fantastic to hear someone laugh when you get it right.

so to summarise..... "make them laugh " as a live in clown having to entertain them , spoil them with gifts, show your "kind side "  even though we all know women like b*astards ( they may cheat with the b*astard but will return if you help an old biddy across the road). Is that it or are there more stipulations to keeping a woman? I think many men get to a stage where they don't understand women and can't be bothered with all this nonsense like some dancing all performing animal at a circus. As coachbuster quite correctly says, the better looking the woman the more intolerant/bitchy she is as she know she has the pick of the men so many men have to put up with a nasty creature  to satisfy their sexual urges or settle for a chubby dumpling who almost invariably has a nice personality because she has to and can't fall back on looks. I actually think men contribute enormously to the problem as you could put worzel gummidge in lipstick on an online dating site and it would get chatted up by overly sexed males giving plain women delusions of grandeur thinking they are more attractive than they are when it's just a case of many men being like a rat up any old manky drain pipe.

No bitterness annie, i just dont want to be a performing chimp ... how about men are themselves and if women dont like it they can bugger off instead of pretending to be someone you're not. Any act /mask slips eventually - clearly you have no man and don't know how to keep one annie so maybe we shall list out some criteria for you to fulfil.
