It amazes me that they can find the money straight away because its "smart" and yet the roads and pavements are left to go from rack to ruin and have been for years. Highway England have pencilled in the extra deaths this wonderful idea will cause already so that's ok thenAngry

This is inevitable, because you can't get something for nothing.

Always knew they were a death trap when I first saw one years ago on the M42. I remember saying to Mrs Wife, 'sheet, they've got rid of the hard shoulder - what happens if you have a sudden emergency? You've got nowhere to go!'

Its madness, after an accident and with no hard shoulder and all lanes blocked, how on earth do the emergency services get though? How many lives will be lost because they couldn't get though in time?

You have to hope you can notice and brake in time or have an option to get out of said lane!!
In my case there was a gap and I was down to about 50 ready for the slip road about a mile ahead
if not there would have been a mess

The lady is suing because there was no "safe zone", hopefully this legal action will stop this madness, but with anything with "smart" names in it,its like an unstoppable streamroller no matter how daft.

Not heard that on the caring BBC.

Have often thought the same when hard shoulders are 'opened' to ease traffic. Is it worth it? Not for me.

If someone has to stop in a driving lane(hard shoulder in use) then the non-moving traffic soon builds up behind the stationary car so it is soon not hazardous anymore but will cause delays ...oc

When 5G kicks in drivers will be able to see in real time if there is a stationary car up front. Thanks to its fast speed and low latency drivers will be able to react timely to the new information.

The report was made by the AA and their President Edmund King called on the authorities to stop the removal of hard shoulders and double the number if ERAs available to motorists on roads where the hard shoulder has already become a running lane.

"This is truly shocking revelation" said King "and shows how dangerous it can be breaking down in a live lane, this highlights why growing numbers of the public are justified in their safety concerns over the removal of the hard shoulder." "Ultimately until you are found by the camera YOU ARE A SITTING DUCK"

With about 6bn people expected to be killed in the next 5 years thanks to 5G, road safety isnt an immediate concern for me. You should also calm down. 4 deaths in a year is nothing compared to a billion a year. When there are only half a million people left on the planet, do you really think road congestion will be an issue? You are overreacting.

38 deaths in five years.

What anyone with any common sense could see coming from a mile away.

Discussing it on the radio, it seems the scheme was based and passed on a trial.
But once passed, the criteria for the trial was abandoned and they went ahead with something different, like instead of having safe places to pull up every 500 meters, they still used one and a half miles apart.

Nothing has change from my original post,no money for roads or pavements but this sh1t ,they are working on it 7 days a week and to f uck who gets killed because of it.

The UK motorway design of 3 lanes & hard shoulder is basically from 1960s.
We have far more cars using the roads now & cars are more reliable.

It would be safer to have a spare lane but at the cost of either congestion or the cost of building another lane.

Sooner or later will have computers driving our cars on motorway so shouldn't crash into nother vehicles (or at least not as often as human drivers do)

Jonny

You have not bothered to explain your preferred Motoway solution. Instead you just act like a child and start ranting about me without offering anything constructive .
"I have you in my posset" - just grow up.

So if we decide that we shouldn't use the hard shoulder for driving- in should be left empty in case a modern car breaks down & is unable to limp the 2 miles to a safe refuge.
So what are the alternatives
1) Go back to 3 lanes & hard shoulder-  we accept there will be congestion but will be safe or charge people to use the motorway so usage drops.

2) Build another road/lane. - we decide it is worth spending money.

What is the solution if we decide humans can't be trusted to drive on a Motoway without a hard shoulder?

John.W.Henry you're becoming more pathetic and childish every passing day.

If you were half as clever as you think you are you would know that 9/11 wasn't the first time an airoplane had crashed into a New York skyscraper.

In 1945 a B-25 crashed into the Empire state building.
,
A tiny plane, compared to those on 9/11, travelling at much slower speed with a fraction of the fuel onboard crashed into a steel framed tower and it disappeared, leaving a sizable hole in the side of the building.

How could this possible happen? In your own time and in your own expert opinion.

Ok here is your bomber of 1945. Uncanny that they found wreckage of the bomber here there and everywhere isnt it ?

1945
July 28
Plane crashes into Empire State Building
A United States military plane crashes into the Empire State Building on this day in 1945, killing 14 people. The freak accident was caused by heavy fog.

The B-25 Mitchell bomber, with two pilots and one passenger aboard, was flying from New Bedford, Massachusetts, to LaGuardia Airport in New York City. As it came into the metropolitan area on that Saturday morning, the fog was particularly thick. Air-traffic controllers instructed the plane to fly to Newark Airport instead.

This new flight plan took the plane over Manhattan; the crew was specifically warned that the Empire State Building, the tallest building in the city at the time, was not visible. The bomber was flying relatively slowly and quite low, seeking better visibility, when it came upon the Chrysler Building in midtown. It swerved to avoid the building but the move sent it straight into the north side of the Empire State Building, near the 79th floor.

Upon impact, the plane’s fuel exploded, filling the interior of the building with flames all the way down to the 75th floor and sending flames out of the hole the plane had ripped open in the building’s side. One engine from the plane went straight through the building and landed in a penthouse apartment across the street. Other plane parts ended up embedded in and on top of nearby buildings. The other engine snapped an elevator cable while at least one woman was riding in the elevator car. The emergency auto brake saved the woman from crashing to the bottom, but the engine fell down the shaft and landed on top of it. Quick-thinking rescuers pulled the woman from the elevator, saving her life.

So how remarkable was this :  The Empire State Building reopened for business just two days later, and even more remarkably, it took just three months to repair all the damage.

Based on the information collated by the WTC structural  engineers the twin towers were constructed in a manner to withstand the impact of a modern day aircraft and i will enclose a link to a documentary ( https://911planeshoax.com/2013/09/11/proof-that-no-real-planes-were-used-on-911/ explaining the format from which it was built amoung many other facts and evidence which you may want to ignore

I don't expect you to watch/read/comprehend all of this it but as i bat for the truth i am always open to research anything anyone throws up that may include something i may have missed. So rather than try and be oh so clever i strongly recommend you carry out some proper research of your own b4 trying to jump on the side of the official narrative and play MR JUST MANIPULATING LIES Cry

When you play with fire YOU will get burnt unless you can ring fence your points of research to back up your belief. Cry

As a footnote i am not that clever at all but i am guided by exceptionally talented investigative journalists and researchers who i trust implicitly ( far more than the propaganda driven MSM and official narratives which are spun out against almost every major incident we are now subjected to on an almost daily basis).

Ok thats that. back over to you to defend your belief. I am content that my knowledge, although extremely difficult and time consuming to amass,  is far closer to the truth than what the history books tell us.

I do not expect to hear back from you anytime soon so i will draft up a thread just for you containing many points of research you may want to refer to IF you really want to understand the truth. Cry
