There don't appear to be any images of his injuries. If I had the chance of a one-on-one with Owen Jones I'd rearrange his face and have him eating through a straw.

hmmmm
I'd expect far right thugs would need to be rounded up by an elite police unit, not sent a letter politely asking them to come to court. A minor, non political charge, no mention of hate crimes,no remand, this is not sounding as originally advertised. |

They always send the charges by post for a stamping incident

The likable chap is trending on twitter
|
|
By:
Guardian columnist Owen Jones has thanked people for their support after an online campaign of "pure abuse and hatred" against him.
An offensive hashtag about the journalist began trending on Twitter on Saturday morning, with people using the trend to level a tirade of abuse at him. But Twitter users quickly began speaking out against the hashtag, with one describing it as an example of "pure abuse and hatred". Several also asked Twitter why it had allowed such a hashtag to exist. The alternative hashtag #SolidarityWithOwenJonesDay soon began gathering momentum as people jumped to the journalist's defence. |
|
By:
He then shared a tweet which called for the abuse to stop, adding: "Bless you lot.
"I might look like I've walked off the set of Home Alone, but if I can survive fascists chasing after me on the streets, I can get through a hashtag set up by alt right weirdos who need their hard drives checking." |

on the incident outside the pub the latest was...
Three men have - James Healy, 39, from Portsmouth, Liam Tracey, 34, from Camden, and Charlie Ambrose, 29, from Brighton - all pleaded guilty to affray. Healy admitted a further charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He denies the attack was motivated by homophobia and will now face a trial of issue in front of a judge to decide whether that was the case. |

Not sure this guy is going the best route with his defence
James Healy's barrister, Matthew Radstone, said: 'He accepts he did target him, he accepts his face was crunched up, he accepts using the word f***. 'It is an assault he has pleaded to and a frenzied one at that.' But the lawyer said prosecutors rely on the opinion of witnesses and items of memorabilia and insignia found in Healy's home, arguing there is no evidence his client was motivated by homophobia or the victim's political views. 'That memorabilia is consistent with Mr Healy being a Chelsea football supporter and part of the Chelsea football supporters' group, who express themselves with memorabilia and behaviour of the type of insignia in that manner the flags perhaps suggest,' he said. If the judge, Recorder Anne Studd QC, finds the assault was politically motivated she could still consider it an aggravating factor, although it is not defined as such in law. The judge added that there is no jury and that she was sitting alone considering the factual basis. 'I cannot see any reason for this evidence to be erased from my mind, either the witness evidence or in relation to the items found at his home address. 'It is properly admissible for the purposes of sentence and capable of assisting the judge in determining motive. 'It will be for me to decide the weight of that material. It may be having heard the evidence that I decide [it] was motivated purely by what the incident in the public house earlier. 'The evidence of the witnesses and the finding of memorabilia in his house will enable me to reach those conclusions and any the inferences I can safely draw. 'It would be wrong to exclude those parts of the evidence.' |

Owen on the witness stand today..
Mr Jones said: "I'm an unapologetic socialist, I'm an anti-racist, I'm an anti-fascist and I've consistently used my profile to advocate left-wing causes." Mr Jones has almost one million Twitter followers, 125,000 followers on Instagram and 350,000 followers on Facebook. "What I use these platforms for is to advocate left-wing ideas and a passion and unwavering commitment to opposing racism, fascism, Islamophobia and homophobia," he told the court. "Almost every single day I am the subject of an unrelenting campaign [of abuse] by far-right sympathisers. "They've come to see me as this hate figure in their ranks." Mr Jones said he received death threats on a daily basis, adding: "It's the combination of being left-wing, gay, anti-fascist - that's everything the far right hate." Describing the evening of the attack, Mr Jones said: "My recollection is that I was saying goodbye to a friend and then I was on the floor completely disoriented. "In those 10 seconds, I don't really remember what happened because I was attacked from behind, I had no sense of what was going to happen." When asked about the claim he had knocked Mr Healy's drink, he said: "That absolutely did not happen. "If I thought I had accidentally spilled someone's drink, I would apologise profusely, I would say, 'I'm so sorry' and I would insist - whether they liked it or not - on buying them another drink." |

healy found guilty of aggravated assault due to his views of people on left and homophobic views, sentenced in 3 weeks time
|
|
By:
Anne Studd QC, the presiding judge, concluded at the end of the hearing that Jones was victim of a “wholly unprovoked assault” outside a central London pub last August because of “his LGBT and his leftwing beliefs”. The defendant, James Healy, 40, had “far-right” views, Studd added.
Healy had already pleaded guilty to assaulting Jones last August outside the Lexington pub in King’s Cross, north London, at about 2am. But he was on trial to determine whether his actions were motivated by homophobia or hostility to Jones’s leftwing political views. Healy is one of three men who have admitted being involved in the violent incident. Healy and Liam Tracey, 34, both from Camden, north London, and Charlie Ambrose, 29, from Brighton, all pleaded guilty to affray last month. Healy also admitted a further charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The judge said that she rejected the defendant’s account of events in the early hours of 17 August in which he had claimed he had “got the hump” because Jones had bumped into him and spilled some of his drink at around 1.30am. Studying CCTV from the pub she said Healy had not appeared to remonstrate with him at the time. Additional CCTV footage taken shortly after 2am showed Healy leaving shortly after Jones, and running after him just has he was leaving the vicinity, attacking him from behind and appearing to knock him to the ground before a general skirmish ensued. Studd said that Healy made no attempt to speak to Jones and engaged in a “brutal assault that was clearly targeted” - and that the video contradicted Healy’s claim, given in a witness statement to police, that he had acted in self defence throughout. The judge accepted Jones’s account of events, which was that when he was in the pub, he was greeted by either Healy or individuals next to him, and so identifying him as the man who went on to attack him half an hour later. “I am satisfied this was as targeted attack on Mr Jones because of who he is and his beliefs” the judge concluded. Sentencing for all three men is due to take place next month at the earliest. |

I don't think Owen is doing himself any good here - a proper bloke would have simply walked away and at the most merely mentioned it in his column.
Taking people to court is simply bringing his paper and the rest of the the far-left of whom he represents into the public eye for the wrong reasons. |
|
By:
FFS CRIPPEN you seriously don't believe a word of the shoite you,ve just written
you may as well remove assault off the charge sheet it was a homophobic hate crime, probably 200 blokes in the pub that night he could have assaulted but singled one out, wonder why |
|
By:
but singled one out, wonder why
Because he's a berk! |
|
By:
that will do so it was a premeditated targeted attack, which the judge agreed with
|
|
By:
If someone caught my back and scratched it with their hand I wouldn't go running to the police.
They wouldn't bother investigating it anyway, it's only because there's one law for the rich like Owen and another for decent ordinary people that it's gone to court. He's taking advantage of his position in the public eye for the sake of the publicity. And highlighting the difference of how people of his standing are protected by the law, and the rest of us can go and get lost. |
|
By:
Justice done. Well done to the judge who saw through the accused’s defence that he was an indiscriminate f*cker who could have battered anyone that night. Well done to Jones who managed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was uniquely more punchable than anyone else in the pub that night. DID YOU ORDER THE CODE RED? YOURE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID
