Seems illegal not to, not sure how it is gonna pan out...

Four more schools in Birmingham have stopped teaching about LGBT rights following complaints by parents. Leigh Trust said it was suspending the No Outsiders programme until an agreement with parents was reached. Earlier this month the city's Parkfield Community School suspended the lessons after protests were held.

Campaigner Amir Ahmed said some Muslims felt "victimised" but an LGBT group leader said No Outsiders helped pupils understand it is OK to be different. Leigh Trust - which is yet to comment publicly - said it wanted to discuss the programme with parents to find "a positive way" of teaching about the Equalities Act. Some parents at Parkfield, and the other four schools, claim the classes are inappropriate for young children and the schools' LGBT message contradicts Islam. The No Outsiders project was created and piloted at Parkfield in 2014 by assistant head teacher Andrew Moffat, who was made an MBE for services to equality and diversity in education in 2017. Ofsted has deemed the lessons as "age-appropriate".

Mr Ahmed, one of the leaders of the Parkfield protests, said he had seen a presentation about the programme that was to be shown to the government as part of the school's Prevent strategy - which is aimed at reducing radicalisation. In a letter seen by the BBC, Leigh Trust said it was halting the lessons until after Ramadan, which finishes in June. The schools involved are Leigh Primary School, Alston Primary School, Marlborough Junior and Infants School and Wyndcliff Primary School. "I think that's outrageous," he said.  "It's quite disgusting that the school has presented our children as potential radicals." A spokesperson for Parkfield Community School said: "The powerpoint was written four years ago in line with Prevent duty at that time. "No Outsiders is all about tolerance, accepting difference and respect, which are all key aspects of community cohesion and our fundamental British values."

Mr Ahmed said his community was "respectful and tolerant" of British values but now felt victimised. He claimed parents who had protested were "effectively seen as homophobes in the wider community". "Fundamentally the issue we have with No Outsiders is that it is changing our children's moral position on family values on sexuality and we are a traditional community.

"Morally we do not accept homosexuality as a valid sexual relationship to have. It's not about being homophobic... that's like saying, if you don't believe in Islam, you're Islamophobic."

It's okay - this is 'Good Homophobia'

Failure to put a gay slogan on a cake you've been asked to bake - that's 'Bad Homophobia' and needs to be condemned, tweeted, bought to court and crushed

What age are we talking? Personally, I don't think this should be discussed in any primary schools, regardless of faith. Secondary plus, I would expect pupils to understand.

If I had children at primary school I'd protest.
Why should LGBT be given access.
Children got enough to learn and stuff like this should be left to secondary schools if atall.
Everybody falling over themselves nowadays to virtue signal their support for this minority.
Good on the Muslim parents for taking a stand.

An interesting battle beginning between progressives and Muslims. The Muslims, boys especially, will be taught by the book and parents at a very young age that homosexuality is haram. If they are true to Islam they cannot accept it, ever.

An utter disgrace. If they're not happy with what our schools teach then go somewhere else. You don't get to dictate what our schools do or don't teach.

But Christianity is not enforced upon the young. The Hadiths are consumed by young Muslims as our children learn nursery rhymes.

Aye, they are 500 years behind by some estimates, although I'd assume that in the modern globalised world they'd be able to close the gap a fair bit quicker.

Thing is this kind of stuff just helps paint Muslims as backwards when the majority are anything but. Last night I was at what was called a Persian Party in Liverpool. My wife's best friend is married to an Iranian and we went along. Safe to say the idea that Muslims don't drink can be put to bed. Some sore heads this morning. And we talked about this very issue. Not one of them agreed with the people protesting.

Unfortunately, in any community you get a group of nutters and they tend to be the loudest and get the most attention.

Hundreds of parents kept their kids away from school, they are the community round there. Comparing them to a handful of liberal people with a few bob is not realistic

Thanks, now what about that comparison you made between the behaviour of a few liberal types and the majority of people towns like Oldham and Bradford? This will run and run, discussing moderation of Islam is haram, who can the authorities talk to?

I would have thought some of the ignorant people on here would be fully supportive of the Intolerant Parkfield parents views!

Yes while Mr Ahmed is worried about the prospect of appearing a homophobe I dare say some on here might Ashley quite like to be seen that wayLaugh

Again, I now to the years you've spent in Oldham and Bradford and your impartial approach to opinion forming.

As an aside saddo, do you think primary school kids should be taught LGBT issues?

The latest poll I saw had 21% of British Muslims drinking alcohol. Some I know do.

Other religions also officially ban alcohol.

On teaching LGBT in primary schools is it just Muslim parents complaining? Do parents protest at being taught in secondary schools? i.e. is it an age issue? Do schools teach also alternative lifestyles such as being polyamorous and polygamy?

What people do should be up to them as long as they are not hurting anyone.

The key thing is when to break the illusion to children that every family has a one mum and one dad? Given that many families with now have 2 mums or 2 dads or 1 dad and 3 mums etc I guess the thinking is to normalise this as soon as possible.

Ah we finally come to what divides us!

If more Muslims drank I think this country would be in a better place. We get on well with the Sikh's because a good Sikh never drinks....... Except to excess!  So many barriers are broken down over a beer.

Maybe we should send some London Pride to Brussels!

I only speak from experience but I drink in Dewsbury and Batley and have never seen a Muslim in any pub. There are areas of the UK which are hugely distant from the the average.

Porcy, I think TV has possibly made teaching acronym sexuality essential by over portraying it in order to normalise it. Teaching them about relationships is fine imo, I believe the mechanics of it should be left until they have enjoyed being kids for a few years.
