Porcupine, I wouldn't have sought the impossible (i.e. consensus). To use the old mantra - Leave means Leave. You can't reach consensus with people who want to stay in the Customs Union, Single Market etc.

Had the Referendum been won by Remain, as widely and condescendingly anticipated, I genuinely believe there would have been no bad faith from the Leaver Losers and the country would have settled down (relatively speaking) once again instead of the major division we have today.

Maybe I'm a daft idealist, but I am convinced that the UK would make an excellent job of being out of the EU and do not accept the doom and gloom that Remainers love to bathe in.

You and I have a completely different mindset - we will never agree or reach consensus.

nothing wrong with that. I have a good friend who supports Labour & drives me nuts with his thoughts. People think we are brothers when out & about but have no idea how  vehemently we argue about politics ``

her friends , colleagues say mrs may is a career public servant who,s only goal in life is to serve, she hides it well because that look of absolute disdain head tilted to one side when a journo is doing his job asking awkward questions ,tells a different story,
I wouldn't mind but he,s spent years proving she,s absolutely hopeless as a minister and now pm

One of the things remain voters go on about is the uncertainty of being outside the EU.
What do the young unemployed of Greece, Spain, Portugal and possibly other EU countries think of the certainty of staying in?
What do those still in Poland and the Baltic states think of their dwindling populations?
What do the Germans think of mass immigration?
Hungary is a powder keg.
France is a throwback to riots in the 60’s.
The EU is like the emperor with no clothes.

Maybe East Germany should split off again and join the Visegrad group, and we can join them? :)

I'd be up for that.

my problem with just about everything is how the tv presents it all as given - rarely with any critique - the journos don't invstigate much these days - just report what the editors put in front of them

May has admitted that the deal is a "compromise" so why aren't journos asking this pretty simple question tonight; "Why are we having to compromise when it is the UK who decided to leave?" Pretty simple& - pretty basic
By:
Just Checking
When: 14 Jan 19 19:04
Of course we have to compromise if we want a deal, a deal is a two way agreement.
By:
Arleystation
When: 14 Jan 19 19:10
We should leave on WTO rules and then negotiate a deal.

We have nothing upon which to compromise otherwise, as we have in effect already played our aces to beat the two of diamonds and the two of clubs.

ffs we cant negotiate a deal now or in the future because the tories don't no what deal they want ,depending on who or who isn't PM, that's why the future agreement is so  vague and can mean anything to anyone, its why labour are wary incase they are handing over a blank cheque to boris Johnson for example

We voted to leave so its not a two way agreetment?

The EU should have zero say in what we do once the result is in, a load of unelected suits barking at a sovereign nation who wanted to leave ffs

Forget them. And May is finished if she takes a hiding in the vote tomorrow, there's no way she can carry if 420+ are voting her government down

But she will try no doubt

you do not compromise over a deal if you originally hold the upper hand in negotiations. You dictate the deal! Now who has been doing the dictating in this 'deal' & who has been doing the compromising? You can make a deal between two countries were both leave the table happy; that's a compromise

'6 years of almost certain uncertainty" this is the level of debate we have got to. just gibberish. who is that guy?
By:
Baphornet
When: 14 Jan 19 19:42
May sees the 'deal' as a "compromise" because she couldn't get (apparently) what she wanted from the EU. "It's the best deal" is all she ever says & is still to this very night saying. What she should be saying, but obviously won't, is that "It's the best deal that i can get" Subtle; but massive difference. That is why you have the issues we do now; plenty upon plenty of people know that her deal is crap to what could have been attained. She is worthless & gets sympathy & a free ride for being worthless. Welcome to the UK!
