Best British male Tennis player since Fred Perry
difficult comparing across different sports |

Fred Perry went on to make a clothing line, what could Murray do?
I'm thinking ... sweets. Mints perhaps? |

I've never really understood why Murray gets so much stick from people.. Ok he does come across as a bit surly and he is a sweaty.
But we might have to wait another 70 odd years to have another Brit going into a grand slam with an actual chance of winning it. Back to the days of no brits in the second week |
|
By:
hes great at tennis and seems a decent bloke with a good sense of humour
he won grandslams and olympic gold in an era of tennis greats and led gb to davis cup victory one of our greats |

I've never really understood why Murray gets so much stick from people
Because he starts crying whenever things dont go his way, like a 2 year old. Also tennis is a game of fluffy balls, knee socks and plimsoles played by ponces. |

I see nobody ever defends the fact hes crying on camera so often
At least people dont try and call it endearing....because its pathetic |
|
By:
He's Scottish and doesn't feel any allegiance to England. Fair enough.
I am English and don't feel any allegiance to him. |
|
By:
I've never warmed to him - I don't really know why. I should be far happier at his incredible achievements and I'm not, which is frustrating.

At the time it was just a smart arse Scottish jibe at England (not) winning a football tournament. fully intended. After the back lash he got... I was only joking, whine came. I really dont need to grow up. You Mug. (now I being petty and childish like you, you Mug).. oops. |

And I suppose you were wearing a horse hair shirt sackcloth and ashes when Andy won Wimbledon for the first time, Jack.
I can see you now giving it large as Djokovic drove that backhand into the net. Same goes for you, dustybin. |

"I got asked about it a couple of days ago in interviews and they asked 'Why did you say that you bought a Paraguay shirt when England were playing against them?'.
"I never said that but it is in the papers and people believe what's in the papers all the time." Murray stressed: "I never once had a Paraguay shirt and I never once said anything about that. I am pretty sure there won't have been quotes of me saying it in the paper. "The journalist said to me 'So Andy are you going to be supporting Scotland in the World Cup?', knowing that Scotland hadn't qualified and he started laughing. However, the 22-year-old from Dunblane has put the episode behind him. "That's the one thing that has annoyed me in the past, but I have moved on. Some of my family is English, my girlfriend is English, I work with two English fitness trainers, my coach is from Zimbabwe, but if you ask him where he's from he's English. I have an English physio, I live down here in London now, and I have a lot of English friends. "I learnt a lot from it, as I realised the guys from the press are not your friends, and you can't joke with them about stuff like that. It's not worth it. It's not worth the hassle. "It's fine to make jokes about yourself, but if you make jokes about other players, or football teams, it's big news." |

The only time I see tennis bonniedday is when it makes the news....and Ive seen murray cry 4 times.
Gazza cried once and they never shut up about it. Murray cries when they dont let him win and when he has to retire....ppl retire every day on far less and dont choke on the tears ffs |
|
By:
Not sure about the best but certainly one of the best.
Put the UK/Scotland/Dunblane on the tennis map. He is an emotional guy but he is well liked by his fellow pros. Was a pupil at Dunblane primary when the massacre took place. His class were preparing to go to the gym, where the gunman was, but were halted when the shooting began. Who knows how that affected him mentally. |

Hamilton turned him into a bad loser you mean?

Crass comment.

From recollection aka, you are some religionist....Im an Existentialist.

I'm anti all religion and not really concerned about what other people believe in but no matter it doesn't alter the fact that your comment was crass.

Verified account @paddypower 3h3 hours ago A grand total of 56 customers kept the faith in Andy Murray and had him backed to win the Australian Open. So we’ve rewarded them by paying it out as a winner! Wish I had got on ![]() |

By:
No it wasnt crass
You suggested that we should ignore his constant need to become emotional as a result of loss simply because other people were effected by a gun man. His need to 'win' has had such investment in it that his emotions can not be controlled, that is the reality. |
|
By:
Not sure what you are on about Bonnie.
Him winning Wimbledon simply meant nothing to me. Might as well have been Nadal, Federer or any of them. |
|
By:
No I never Dusty.
I never related the two things other that to say Who knows how that affected him mentally. That's asking a question and not stating a fact. |
|
By:
Indeed, but equally having a blister might also have effected him, they are two unknowns.
The fact he cries at loss at tennis isnt an unknown. |
|
By:
Another crass response. Nothing more to add so have the last word.
|
|
By:
Surely it's hard not to like him? Comes across as a good egg with a great sense of humour.
|
|
By:
Well you implied that him crying at losing at tennis might be forgiven because there was a shooting at his school decades ago.
Its as though losing at tennis gives him flashbacks, but not the wins? |
|
By:
He actually was more emotional when he won and it was a fair comment, Who knows how that affected him mentally.
Nobody knows bar him but it must have affected him in some way at such a tender age. Can`t remember who said it but it`s true, "A good loser will always be a loser!", or something like that. Regards the question of him being the greatest ever British sportsman, imo, he wasn`t even the greatest Scottish sportsman. Great tennis player though and a credit to the game on and off the court. |
|
By:
Ive not seen that to be true.
Ive seen him cry out of desperation not out of joy, certainly not to the same extent anyway. The two are different, just because one cries at joy doesnt discredit criticism of crying at dispair. Crying at loss at sport has to be the lowest common denominator |
|
By:
He is British and he won things for us, good enough for me.
Everybody has their own personality, including sportsmen(and women) |

Is crying after a huge loss on betfair allowed?
I think we need some groundrules here. |

I find the people that don't like Murray don't like The Scots full stop.

By:
I will even forgive Andy Murray being Scottish
