By:
Lothar Matthaus?

Seaman played into his 40s and won caps for England so he won`t be far off 1000.
Matthaus is a great shout. |
By:
Big clue Mac
It was the 12th final but had something different from the previous 11. |
By:
Matthaus is at 33 with 987 appearances.
Pirlo, Beasant, Eastham, Bremner are not on the list. WD Mac on getting another two in Seaman and Carlos. 1. Shilton - 1,390 3. Roberto Carlos - 1,132 5. Casillas - 1,120 6. Clemence - 1,118 8. By:
If Xavi is that high I'd have to go for Iniesta too, but not as confident on him.
I know Gareth Barry passed one of Giggs' landmarks so I'll have a guess at him too. |
By:
Iniesta, Barry not in the top 50.
Still some big names in the top 25 but we're left with a few lesser known players too. |
By:
shilton and clemence 1 of those not around massive diff

You have got me beat aka. I was thinking, first penalty, first team without foreign players, first final where team going behind won. Wrong on all counts. Give us a clue.
By:
The teams involved
By:
Going behind then winning was wrong with Benfica coming from 2-0 down to Real 5-3.
That's another clue ![]() |

I don't want to spoil the party Nick but that list your using is not really accurate, I was puzzled by Shiltons 1390 as I know he basically retired almost immediately after his 1000th league game if you add his England games you reach about 1130.
I suspect all the others on the list are lower, that list you have probably includes youth games etc. I could be wrong this is Shiltons list of appearences Senior career* Years Team Apps (Gls) 1966–1974 Leicester City 286 (1) 1974–1977 Stoke City 110 (0) 1977–1982 Nottingham Forest 202 (0) 1982–1987 Southampton 188 (0) 1987–1992 Derby County 175 (0) 1992–1995 Plymouth Argyle 34 (0) 1995 Wimbledon 0 (0) 1995 Bolton Wanderers 1 (0) 1995–1996 Coventry City 0 (0) 1996 West Ham United 0 (0) 1996–1997 Leyton Orient 9 (0) Total 1005 (1) National team 1968–1972 England U23 13 (0) 1970–1990 England[2][3] 125 (0) |

Pump, looks like you got those figures from the Peter Shilton page on wiki.
I got my figures from the page showing players with the most appearances - also on wiki! This is a list of the 50 footballers who have played the most official football matches at all age levels. |
By:
Breakdown of Shilton's appearances:
348 Leicester City, 121 Stoke City, 272 Nottingham Forest, 242 Southampton, 211 Derby County, 43 Plymouth Argyle, 2 Bolton Wanderers, 10 Leyton Orient 125 England, 13 England U23 |

By:
what about lampard and or slippy stevie g?
By:
WD Donny - Frank Lampard (Jr) is at 15 with 1,044 appearances.
By:
Still think thisis inc youth games etc, Lampard never played 1000 first team games, its obviously a different interpretation, Lampard has not even played 800 senior games by the other list, one is obviously wrong & I doubt thinking about it that Lampard could have played 1000 senior games when you think about it.
By:
lots of " thinking " there
![]() |
By:
The shorter list maybe only inc league games maybe that's the " shortfall " on the other list.
By:
Pump - see my posts at 10:34 and 10:38
Yes - it seems the figures include youth matches. That would explain my higher figure for PS at Leicester. |
By:
I thought off several players & when I looked up on wiki they were all short of 1000 in essence most were on the list, that Inc Allan Ball who when I looked was only on 900 but he's on your list, others than I thought were short are on it, looks like the list I have used for years never inc any domestic cup games or European ties which is ridiculous.
Apologies ![]() |

Which Parliamentary constituency is the oldest in continuous existence in the UK?
By:
No-one is gonna know that Nickwithout looking it up, my guess would be somewhere in Oxfordshire, midlands area.
By:
This would be a £250k question on WWTBAM but of course you'd have four options.
It did occur to me that it was a poor question - not much scope for logic or reasoning either. The answer is Lincoln; established 1265. City of York is as old or slightly older but the seat split in 2010. |
