Can anybody confirm that?

Corbyn wasn't 'formal' but he was 'smart' in the sense his jacket didn't have holes in it or look like it needed washing etc.
He represents the average person in the street, no airs nor graces. He did what was expected of him.

While charlie turned up with ceremonial sword and costume, representing the armed forces he is now head of after mummy bequeathed it him like a toy given a child.
Just like each opening of parliament they turn out in their traditional gimp costumes to impose a whiff of prestige and privilege that keeps people under the boot.
40million people were killed in WW1 alone....how many of those were finely dressed royals?

Corbyn's got his reasons for not dressing up on Remembrance Sunday.

If he wants to upset people that's all right by me, bring it on Jezza!

It just means fewer votes for him at the next general election.

Yet showing disrespect on a national day of mourning like Corbyn did on Remembrance Sunday, does serve to show the vast gulf there exists between ordinary working people and the left-wing politicians who pretend to represent their interests.
By:

Yes Slicer
Ive already used that in this very thread.

George III last one to lead too.

Its correct to remember and to be respectful, but lets not continually cover up for why things happened the way they did.
Most wars were either directly or indirectly the result of colonialist power struggles, even innocent little Belgium was in on it, King Leopold II perhaps the worst despot in history in my view.
So don't be blinded with all of the pomp and ceremony and point scoring by those who manufacture power with people forget the disparity of those ruined by war and those who gloried in it.

DrC
There was no disrespect shown by Corbyn. What rankles with me is how the likes Mrs Brown down Old Kent road are lead to believe her sons/grandsons etc died for something.

By:
dustybin
When: 13 Nov 18 12:32
I don't see where anyone are having their noses rubbed in anything.
The constant as with all things is to become informed, portrayal of things based on emotion allow for continued injustices.

People maybe forgiven for forgetting, but as far as Im aware every family who lost a member in WW1 were issued with a ceremonial plaque, colloquially referred to as the 'Death Penny'. We still have ours from my Great Grandfather, its in a frame on my wall because remembrance isn't about 1 day a year for me.
Around the perimeter of this bronze plaque reads 'He died for freedom and for honour'

Well its a bit late talking about freedom when the last 400 years had been about ruining other peoples isn't it?

Dusty's profound and heart wrenching conclusion on WW1 is far more troubling...

Each year we 'remember' but when will we ever debate the foolishness of WW1?

Not like you to make things up to suit your diatribe, crippen.
(1.01 you need to look it up).

I notice a few posts from screaming beneath the waves too, nothing practical, just more anti-corbyn.

What is it with those of you who feel the need to hate Corbyn at every opportunity - whatever he does.
Do any of you think it'll make a difference to anything, by your constant digging?
Does it make you feel good?

To answer an earlier post from treetop...
No, I haven't seen the same thing on here about May.
A few mentions when, like any politician she'll be castigated.
But if a similar thread, especially if the thread turned out to be wrong, there is no way there would be anything the crap that's all over this thread.

Note: I'm still not saying what I support - you can all assume what you like as usual. I'm just pointing out a little of the crap that has so spoiled this forum.
It's what I like doing - In response to what you like doing.

Crippen... I "went for" one of your even more ridiculous posts.
You honestly think, I mean really, even in your very strange world, that I've taken a "roasting" the last couple of nights? and that I'm "boiling"?
I mean really?
That is very hard to understand. But as it's you, it'll be a touch more grist for the mill if I get bored later.
There was me thinking I was having a little sport, and once again exploiting your lack of intelligence, humour and common sense in just a few posts.

You could try - though this won't happen justifying the post I quoted... This one:
Yet showing disrespect on a national day of mourning like Corbyn did on Remembrance Sunday, does serve to show the vast gulf there exists between ordinary working people and the left-wing politicians who pretend to represent their interests.

Now, pointing out the fact that you wrote some unfounded rubbish (again), doesn't give me a "leftie" etc etc title. It just shows that you make stuff up.
Your post was wrong, a lie, if you will, but I have no doubt you will either completely ignore this fact or try to justify it with more crap.

BBV? You're right, I have no idea what it means. Did you make it up?
Unless it's Blood Borne Virus, is it? Do you have a BBV? Is it syphilis? That affects the brain, so it could be.
I don't understand why you'd want me to type BBV after each post. Is it the letters after your name?

Injera, nothing wrong with a little debate and disagreement, but the subject tends to be the same. I mean, have a look through this thread. Many of the points are in no way a debate they are statements based on determination to push home the same thing as every day, on loads of threads.

In some cases - crippen being a main example - I find it hard to actually agree. So in that regard you're definitely right, imo.

Now, I'm busy doing some paperwork for the next couple of hours. I'll be back to read your twaddle later, crippen.

This is the way internet debates go now. Right and Left act the same way.

95% of people are not interested in the facts of a particular event. Because they have already decided who is right or wrong before the event occurs. eg Trump is always right. Trump is always wrong. There are people who will blame Trump for absolutely everything and then people who will never admit he has ever done anything wrong.

This thread a great example: Corbyn did not wear a poppy. On page 1 it is established that he was wearing one, but that does not matter, Corbyn has to be in the wrong so just move the goalposts and carry on attacking him. Anyone reading the OP and skipping to page 3 of the thread would think he definitely was not wearing one.

The left did a similar thing with Serena Williams when she attacked the umpire: She said he penalized her because of sexism or racism, that he would not have done the same to male players, and the left were all over it, demanding tennis had to be overhauled to stop stuff like this happening to Serena. It was quickly established that the umpire had a very consistent record of applying these penalties to big name male players too, so at that point could everyone just admit Serena was wrong, or just move on and shut up about it ? No, because Serena Williams is a big deal in identity politics and so she can never be wrong. There then followed days of articles of Serena as victim (with goalposts moves as they could no longer pretend the umpire was just picking on her alone).

Two terrible comparisons, most people in britain can't stand trump be they labour or conservative, certainly no conservatives i know, most despise him and again this left thing with serena williams maybe there were some sticking up for her but in general most people thought she was acting like a brat..

I'd agree with most of that Tobe, except maybe your confusing "the left" with "the diversity" or the "PC brigade".

It's this constant everything that idealistic students and the righteous being called "the left" that makes me as active against as much as I am on here.
And which creates the stuff you mention.

Here's a list:
Trump
Brexit
Abortion
Muslims
Immigration
(possibly) Ukip
Corbyn
Khan
Abbott
Yaxley
(maybe, if they haven't been forgotten) people on the dole

I'll lay money that most people on here have identical views on most or all of these.
I'll lay equally that there are less than 5% who don't have mixed views on them.

It is down to 2 things.
1 The internet
2 People giving up joining in on the forum because they're fed up with it all.

Surprised to see abortion in that list SF.
For me I've mixed emotions on the subject but would be opposed to either extreme, ie no restrictions or a total ban.
Trump I find fascinating and I'm neither a hater or a supporter. No graces but seems to have enough support for a second term to be a possibility.
Immigration is always presented on here as either for or against which completely ignores the middle ground of controlled immigration.
Muslims, my issues would be with the extremists along with those trying to force their laws upon us.
Second guessing you're probably right with the rest.

WW1 stopped one evil faction in its tracks as did WW2.

It was a response to DrC's assertion that I was rubbing noses in it by suggesting people died in WW1 for nothing.
It was somewhat glib a response but accurate I believe. WW1 achieved nothing since the problem festered and a second world war ignited after we had supposedly learned the lessons, 'the war that ends all wars'.
Well my shaping of my argument is that rhetoric like that are used to attempt to give value to (in this case sacrifice) or to justify a means.

If we are to assess the criteria of 'why' these wars occurred we can't be so myopic as to say its because an existential threat appeared overnight, because it didn't.
Its the continuing of the lie that everyone else is wrong apart from us.
The reason wars of that nature materialised is because of the actions that preceded them.
Germany emulated Britain and France in colonising other countries (the mining of other's potential for our own behest) and a power struggle insued, all the rest was just vehicles and excused for war, wars that are fought not by those in power, but of those without.

All actions have consequences. This is why Im willing to listen to (if not Corbyn) people of the mindset that we have to address our own issues if we expect others to do the same.....and only if others become grossly unreasonable for no good reason then we fight.
