Having read both this thread, plus another one on an American forum I frequent, it is quite astonishing how vastly different the opinions are between the two. Here, the general opinion seems to be pro Dr Ford's performance but very critical of Judge Kavanaugh's. Stateside, the exact opposite view appears to hold sway, they ripped her to shreds and reported that he came across as far more honest and sincere.

I haven't got a clue whether or not Judge Kavanaugh will now be confirmed to the Supreme Court. From a Republican point of view (with an eye on mid term elections) it might be preferable if he withdrew. Whatever happens next week, however, I believe that the disgraceful manner in which Democrat leaders have handled themselves will be remembered for a very long time indeed. Their conduct has been disgraceful.

Just a day of tests for me, several hours of generally being poked and prodded about.

I consider the democrat leaders' behaviour in their treatment of Judge Kavanaugh to be truly sickening. I have no doubt whatsoever that they could not care less about justice or the concept of innocence until proven guilt, their motives were purely selfish in my view. Whatever happens next the lives of Judge Kavanaugh and Dr Ford (and worse, that of their families) will be blighted by these events. All of it deliberately engineered by democrats just to delay the SCOTUS nomination until after the mid terms.

It's been reported a bit but as it's obv bollocks most have ignored it. As a trump supporter Kavs performance was fantastic as a potential S.C. judge it was appalling, partisan, didn't know legal quotes, conspiracy heavy, stumbled on questions, long silences that wouldn't be permitted by any judge and it was clear this was no Dem set up as they had coordinated feck all apart from maybe when Ford was speaking. As I said earlier the best result is for him to be voted in placating the base for the midterms and then for more evidence to emerge over the next few weeks - really he was a moderate drinker most of the time, wasn't belligerent or angry when drunk and never passed out or had any memory blanks? There's already enough in the public to call that as b/s. Days gone by lying about that would be enough to dq him but this is Trumps America we are talking about and standards have never been lower.
Trump has then served his purpose for the far right establishment that run America, tax cuts to make them all much much richer personally, out of date large scale corporations (old money) given vast amounts of capital and the S.C 'secured' for 30 years (so they think). If kav is confirmed (and the midterms go worse than expected) i can see the clothes falling off the Emperor very quickly.

Several years from now most of those democrat senators will probably be accused themselves. Ford will claim she was lead into a room and five old men kissed her arse for three hours.

Confirmed or not, Kavanaugh is, and forever will be, tainted. The lying under oath, evasiveness, dodging answering about an FBI investigation to clear his name and irrational outbursts in the hearing were compounded by his blatant message that far from being impartial, as a supreme court judge should be he is nothing more than a Trump/Republican puppet. This is not going to go away as easily as the Republican party seem to assume. In the coming days facts will emerge that paint a totally different picture of this nominee and the Political disruption caused will have Putin laughing all the way to the Kremlin.

Being fair, the reason no one can prove it one way or another is that the matter has not been properly investigated.

Even the American Bar Association has called for a delay of the vote to allow the FBI to investigate the claims by Dr Ford and other women. Why is Mr Kavanaugh not agreeing to this? I'd have thought this could only assist in determining a conclusion, definitive or not.
