i was thinking who cares & regardless of the reason why is this the lead story on the news?
then they said he had sold a million tickets. Despite what your feelings are toward him, that's impressive. Sorry, that was impressive, refunds all round |
By:
I immediately though either he or his wife was ill.
If he has sold a million tickets then the cancellation is a big news item. Apparently, he is worth £43m and doesn't enjoy doing stand up much.... |
By:
hell yeah and some serious gnashing of teeth from promoters & venues now.
hope it's nothing awful about him or his family. |

Would Imagine Serious/Terminal illness Involved Somewhere

By:
he's the sort of performer that wouldn't want to cancel unless it were serious, I wonder if it's his mum?
By:
I wish the fella well with his family problems and all it entails but am I missing something as to why he is deemed funny?
Not once do I recall him making me smile. Wasn't he the Armarillo guy? WALOBs that remake was! |
By:
Not so fond of his stand up, but Phoenix Nights and Car Share are brilliant.
By:
I saw him at a charity event he did at the Manchester Apollo in July(not one of those soulless arenas that are awful places to see a comedian in).
He was terrific, I just did not want the gig to end. |
By:
good to see the apollo still going strong 626 i saw meat loaf there around 84/85 .
By:
It is Foxy , can't be many venues that have lasted as long .
1980 my first gig there , seeing Rainbow. |
By:
Trilby headline says Peter kay not Michael Mcintyre but hey ho each to their own.
By:
Do you remember the free trade hall 626
By:
I do Foxy .
By:
I saw Bowie there in 73 it’s now a hotel and my youngest daughter works there it’s funny how life moves on .
By:
he's one of those rare comics who's naturally funny, i.e. on and off stage. Just look at his face, he has you smiling before he even opens his mouth.
I rate his stand up highly, one of the best around at the moment. And his comedy writing makes Gervais look like the naked emperor he is. |
By:
I have never looked at somebody's face and smiled unless it is that of a loved one. Phoenix Nights was great but his stand up is average and on a par with the hugely popular Michael McIntyre. So inferior to Ricky Gervais it is impossible to compare them.
By:
Nah, Gervais, MaIntyre & Kay are a trio of bellends, imo.
Richard Pryor - now he was funny. Dang funny! |
By:
Christ ! I thought he had died.
By:
Like trilby I just do not find Peter Kay in the slightest bit amusing and I wouldn't go and see him live if the tickets were free. Having said that I do understand the appeal that he has to certain sections of the masses in that he is inoffensive and jovial and someone who you could take your Granny to see. The last "comedian" I saw live (and I use that term very loosely and I was literally dragged to go) was Dara Ó Briain who was about as funny as a fire in the local orphanage. After 15 minutes I walked out and plotted up in a pub in Hammersmith til the show was over.
By:
I too was surprised it made front page news, but we live in a celebrity endowed lifetime. Never been too fond of his stand up videos, bits funny other bits not, but his tv work for script and observation alone is simply brilliant..seen him a fair few times on stage in Manchester and Liverpool doing a turn before a Squeeze gig, apparently he's best of friends with Chris Difford..I wish him well.
By:
SlippyBlue if you think Dara Ó Briain is bad, go and see Harry Hill live.He was the pits.
By:
Hi Spot, I hope you are in good form Sir and seasons greetings to you.
I wouldn't go and see Harry Hill if it was free to get in and a free bar all night and I do like a pint or two! |
By:
The night Harry Hill was on, Tim Vine was on as the main man.
By:
not much into stand up , but did manage to see the late Great Bernard Manning at my local pub in the 80,s

Saw Frank Carson and Bob Monkhouse live in the70's and they were awesome.Cant laught at todays rubbish, one swear word and hysteria ??? Kay is funny on a show but has to work at it for the whole show.
By:
Mike Reid the best standup I’ve seen. Plenty of racism, sexism , bad language , all the stuff I enjoy.
By:
The Amarillo garbage got him the big cheques but I am sure he cringes at it - everyone has to **** themselves off to get the wages now and again.
His early stuff - That Peter Kay Thing and Phoenix Nights nights are hall of fame comedy stuff. Some of his live stuff is pure class also - just watch the stuff were he picks up on musical lyrics that sound rude or offensive when they actually say something different. A brilliant writer, superb comedy actor and very good stand up. You just have to forgive the odd bit of dross. |

Captain - Agree - it is hard to think that anyone would not find this at the very least amusing........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMYorpYNMKc Yep, excellent stage craft. He's a very funny man. Car Share was genius. |
By:
Such a shame. This was an efficient way to conduct a mass testing of middle-aged Northener's for dementia.
By:
that karaoke routine is pure gold, and there's plenty more in his locker.
Gervais meanwhile is a 1 gag pony, and his gag was stolen off somebody else (more talented). ![]() |
By:
Anyone seen Jimeoin,? now he makes me roar
By:
yes saw him in Bristol, was disappointed if i'm honest even though i liked him from tv etc
By:
have seen rich hall too, better but still not great, best live act i saw was early tim minchen who at that time was excellent but lost the plot now i think
By:
i saw joan rivers die on stage, a long time before her actual death
