So as usual when talkmadder is challenged he gets posts deleted.

Gets posts deleted? Not guilty your honour. I hate it when lefty rants get deleted, it leaves my witty replies stranded in mid thread. I never even saw another post after my previous one, Dave. Was it one of yours? What did it say?

If anyone else saw it BTW let me know the gist of it please - leaving out any abusive language of course - I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble!

I watched Sunday Politics Scotland with Gordon Brewer.
He had SNP MSP George Adam in the studio with Conservative MP Luke Graham in the London studio.
The discussion was on the possible 1p tax rise amongst other measures  in Scotland.
About a dozen times GA said a debate was needed, 4 times he called it mature debate.
LG in reply to one point said that the SNP need to be honest with the electorate and spell out their proposals.
LG replied but not before quipping A Tory MP and honesty, that's a new one on me.
Yes very mature from the SNP MSP.
As I started with they can't help themselves and seemingly feel the need to belittle/insult their opponents.

Well I do indeed suspect he is lying about his mother in law for the reasons I set out in my 10.28 post.  And I may indeed have implied that again in the deleted post, but Talkmadder didn't see it, so it's irrelevant to akabula's "theory" as to why talkmadder didn't respond and in any case once again I just asked first "when did she retire?".

Don't think that one will stand up in court akabula.  It's a gambling forum and you should be able to work out that the odds of his m-i-l has a pension of exactly the amount required to exclude her from pension credit are very high indeed.  So it is a very reasonable suspicion to have.

So what do you suggest Dave? A freeze on pensions and anyone who has provided for a private pension excluded from the Government one or penalised for it with a reduced amount. Genuine qustion.

akabula Suspecting something and definitively saying it are two different things and for the umpteenth time I firstly simply asked him when his m-i-l retired.  When he didn't respond I revealed my suspicions.  What do you think the chances are that with all the complexities of the pension system, his m-i-l gets exactly the amount that excludes her from a pension income top-up?

bigmo the 3% increase is entirely justified and is only an issue because the appalling productivity in the country which means that wages are rising less than this.

As regards whats the odds someone is in that situation I don't know but what I do know is that some will and I have no reason to doubt what Torque says.

I don't deny implying he invented his m-i-l situation at all, but it is hardly abusive as you say in your  @ 3.47 - just pointing out a obvious conundrum.  As I said its a gambling forum and the relevant odds make it highly unlikely that his post is accurate.

Even by Dave's low standards that level of desperation is hilarious! I didn't have a clue how much the state pension was until my missus mentioned that her mum wasn't eligible for PC because she was just over the threshold. When I asked how much that was, she replied "£156, I think" hence my statement in my first post of "£156 I think but that might be a pound or two out."

It really is incredible how Dave never seems to tire of making a fool of himself in his sheer desperation to have a pop at me, it's absolutely shameless! And all the more laughable as it comes just a few days after claiming he ignored my posts and never enterered into conversation with me at all. What were all those questions about my MIL's age, Dave? Surely you weren't desperately trying to find some tiny error were you? "Aha, people born in 1944 should be getting £157.33 Torquemada. Got you!"

He's just obsessed with trolling me, Saddo. Anxious and Scandinavian Haven were the same - whenever I post within what they consider should be working hours for a scaffolder in they'll all chirp with "shouldn't you be working?" or "shouldn't you be up a scaffold?" etc.

They're completely obsessed with me mate, and desperately try to catch me out on the most mundane of things to the point they're now seemingly paranoid about everything! It can't be true I'm a scaffolder, it can't be true my mum in law gets £156 pension, it can't be true I'm their puppet master and they're on my string!

It never ends well for them!

Have a read through Dave's input on this thread, it's absolutely priceless. I don't know what he does for a living but he'd be perfect for the council, the man has no equal when it comes to digging holes for himself!

lol you are assigning exactly the opposite meaning to that statement.  It doesn't say anything about people who do manual labour it only says something about people who are extremely accurate with spelling and grammar.  And the intersection between those people and people who have manual labour as a job will be very small.  This doesn't say anything about intelligence. 

It should be fairly obvious that people who apply themselves in the early stages of education ie spelling and grammar and take pride in being accurate in those areas are likely to continue that through their education.  That is likely to lead to qualifications and to opportunities in professional and skilled careers.  None of that says anything about intelligence or lack of it.  That only really becomes a factor at the extremes.  Just about all of us are in average intelligence band, that no one can really accurately assess.

On the subject of my username (which seems to agitate a few on here so much) the reason for its selection is not because I'm a fan of some genocidal priest from hundreds of years ago, or an homage to any racehorse (although that was an excellent guess). I wanted to be Cardinal Biggles from a Monty Python sketch but didn't like the look without a space. This led me to Google some similar names and Torquemada took my eye - I had no idea who he was before Betfair.

I must say that the behaviour on this thread (lying accusations aside) has been pretty fair compared to usual standards. All very jovial and good humoured, well done everyone!

Well it is important that people like me pay taxes so that people can get benefits.
And btw even in retirement I'm still having to fork out a few thousand each year from my pensions that I paid for albeit my employer contributed to my private pension.

Yes i agree about taxes that the NHS /SOCIAL CARE can keep some dignity and that those in need can apply for Social Security , as for your private pensions yes if you have paid in you should get what they promised you , but come on the whole financial system is bent we all know that.

At one time people looked to family when in trouble now they look to the government.
No more evident than in old people needing care. My mother was in that situation but my sister stepped up.
Can remember loads of families like that when I was young.
Not saying that I'm disagreeing with you but a major factor is the break downs within family units.

I agree the family breakdown is a massive problem , i do know family and friends that have had problems in very difficult situations regarding care for older and vulnerable relatives, the system as it is at the moment is in crisis for social care a better way needs to be found irrespective of political opinion

akabula you got tax relief on your pension contributions and tax relief on the growth on the fund.  So its reasonable for you to pay tax on the benefits, don't you think?

when families were bigger there was more chance of having a kid who could step in when requirde, or an in law.

if kids are just about managing then putting their job at risk to care for an elderly relative often leads to financial problems for them

there has to be a safety net, or else somewhere down the line the problems will be greater.

akabula I must have missed your post criticizing lfc1971 encouraging the self employed to avoid paying their tax. I'm sure if one of the more moderate posters on here had posted that you would have joined the rest of the right wing mob on here condemning them.
