It would be interesting to know how many Grauniad readers will have to survive old age on nothing more than the basic government pension. Not very many would be my guess.

Virtually no one retired at the moment has the "basic government pension".  Self employed who retired before 2015 would be the only significant group.

No, just pointing out that not many non-guardian readers have to live on the "basic government pension" ie your post is silly.

My wife's mum lives on the basic state pension - £156 per week I think (might be a pound or two out).

And, because she gets zero pension credit, she has to pay £116 a month council tax on top of all the other bills. Had she not paid all her dues into the system she would be eligible for PC and get all or some of her CT paid as well. The welfare system is broken, people are punished for working hard and playing it straight, whilst others are rewarded for being feckless, fraudulent or workshy.

dead right torque, when they were convincing us to pay up on NI or we wouldnt get full pension they forgot to mention that if we didnt theyd make it up with a few extras & more.if you're not wealthy you may as well have **** all then the govt will look after you.
By:
dave1357

The government doesn't need to "convince" you to pay NI, or any other tax.

btw I suspect talkmadder has invented his mother in law's situation, just have a rant about people on benefits.

Poor old Dave! LaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

After saying a few days ago that he doesn't enter into conversation with me, he now asks me a question and then resorts to his usual abuse and childish name-calling when I didn't reply! LaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

As if I'd bother to make something up as mundane and easily verifiable as that! LaughLaughLaughLaugh

PT Credits are incredible. Did you know you can claim travel expenses to visit a relative in JAIL?! Also taxi fares to visit a relative in hospital.

I know of a pensioner who OWNS her house but is eligible for PTCs. Her boiler broke doen and it needed replacing.

Did she
a) ask friends/family for help?
b) sell the house to generate cashflow to pay for such things
or c) ask the council to pay for it.

they do if you're self employed dave 1357 but i suspect thats never entered your little head you condescending *****,what are you teacher or local govt ?
By:

When: 18 Oct 17 10:28
see my first post in this thread, I am perfectly aware of the status of self employed.  The "voluntary" issue only applies to very low earners making £3 a week class 2 self employed contributions (which if you don't have a full 35 year record are the bargain of the century). They are such good value the government is abolishing them.  Class 4 contributions aren't voluntary if eligible to pay them.

and getting back to talkmadder's mother in law.  He refuses to answer a simple question.  However, I can say that state pension entitlements are quite complex with varying amounts being paid, but pension credit topped up income to errr £156 a week in 2016/17 year.

I thought that was rhetorical, part of the insult that started "never entered your little head you condescending *****"

but if you want to know I have never worked for any government or local government entity.

If you are self employed the amount of tax you pay is voluntary , that is a very good thing,
Don't pay it if possible.

It is hilarious how many of the lefties on here have claimed to have blocked me, or vowed to ignore me, or report my posts on speed dial. The reality is, of course, I am their puppet master - one little twitch of the string and they get all fidgety and can't resist replying. LaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Gets posts deleted? Not guilty your honour. I hate it when lefty rants get deleted, it leaves my witty replies stranded in mid thread. I never even saw another post after my previous one, Dave. Was it one of yours? What did it say?

Place your bets.

A) a hissy fit tantrum.
B) a rant.
C) a tirade of abuse.
D) all of the above.

The odds on D are quite short! LaughLaughLaughLaugh

Why would anyone who you have been abusive to and called a liar respond to you?

where have I been abusive?  where have I called him a liar?  I simply said "when did she retire?"

The lefties can't help themselves.
I watched Sunday Politics Scotland with Gordon Brewer.
He had SNP MSP George Adam in the studio with Conservative MP Luke Graham in the London studio.
The discussion was on the possible 1p tax rise amongst other measures  in Scotland.
About a dozen times GA said a debate was needed, 4 times he called it mature debate.
LG in reply to one point said that the SNP need to be honest with the electorate and spell out their proposals.
LG replied but not before quipping A Tory MP and honesty, that's a new one on me.
Yes very mature from the SNP MSP.
As I started with they can't help themselves and seemingly feel the need to belittle/insult their opponents.

Daves responses on here follow a similar trend.

In answer to your question Dave. where have I called him a liar?
By:
dave1357
When: 18 Oct 17 16:19
Well I do indeed suspect he is lying about his mother in law for the reasons I set out in my 10.28 post.  And I may indeed have implied that again in the deleted post, but Talkmadder didn't see it, so it's irrelevant to akabula's "theory" as to why talkmadder didn't respond and in any case once again I just asked first "when did she retire?".
By:
dave1357
When: 18 Oct 17 16:23
Don't think that one will stand up in court akabula.  It's a gambling forum and you should be able to work out that the odds of his m-i-l has a pension of exactly the amount required to exclude her from pension credit are very high indeed.  So it is a very reasonable suspicion to have.
