Aye, all those lads swept under the carpet for years while this one gets 80k for a poor joke, and seems to want more. Justice only seems to work for a few.

I think Ms Aluko needs to be very very careful.
She is a trained lawyer, so presumably knows what is and isn't libellous. However, to go public with accusations about Mark Sampson, that have already been addressed by an FA and then an independent enquiry, seems stupid. Furthermore, she refused to take part in said enquiries and did not bring these accusations to the attention of these enquiries. She admits her reaction was to laugh at the 'Ebola' retort that Sampson purportedly made (he denies it) - which was surely the reaction it was intended to provoke! It is not a fact that because something happens subsequently it happened consequently, so she appears to be skating on thin ice, linking her dropping from the England team to a supposed racist slur. |

By:
Often the case lately that when a player is dropped or a cyclist not selcted for the Olympic team then accusations fly.
I like listening to Aluko in the media but she's done herself no favours here. People are so quick to use the bullying and racist words. Why be so sensitive?? If she did indeed get £80k 'hush money' then that is a disgrace. |

football teams are covering up false accusations of racism, remember the Clattenburg case
|
|
By:
there were accusations also regarding cautions on the football pitch, and in relation to police cautions.
but it is important to know what was said exactly, people can become confused and take offence at something said innocently. it might be essential for people at some point to record everything that is said to protect themselves. |

"you need to investigate the investigation"
ffs the world has gone mad |

The FA has admitted the mixed-race player was not spoken to during the two investigations it commissioned. It says it has not investigated the alleged Ebola remark, described as a “racist joke” in a letter from the PFA to the governing body, because there was no formal allegation.

Sampson is a bit of a tool, and I quite believe that he made some ignorant remarks. However, I don't see what Aluko is trying to achieve. 80 grand is a lot of money to be paid, just because someone made a stupid joke. She should be thankful that she got that much. She has received a fair amount of money for kicking a ball about for over a decade, and now she wants more. If she is a qualified lawyer then her earning potential should be better than most. She should concentrate on making a career out of that. Although her judgement in this matter suggests that she might not be very well equipped for a career in Law. Incidentally, how long does she believe that an international football career should be. After 11 years, I would have thought that her playing days would be coming to an end anyway. Despite her own obvious sense of entitlement.

By:
I heard her interview this morning on Radio 5, and it seemed very half-hearted, as though she herself wasn't convinced he had done anything wrong.
The fact that there has already been a 3 month enquiry, seems to suggest that she has been "persuaded" to keep it going by the "kick it out" hierarchy, and the Beeb are happy to go along with it. |
|
By:
If he did make the remark it surely isn't racist anyway.
He was talking about an appalling disease that was, to my recollection, rife at the time in Nigeria and white people were getting it as well. If a white woman had relations in nigeria he would have said it anyway. It was probably a stupid joke and the fact that she confirmed that she laughed at the time, and it was about three years ago, confirms it. Even if he was serious then maybe he was concerned for her health and the health of the team as it is highly contagious. |

There should be an investigation into why she was paid £80k when it was concluded from the independent investigation which took place that Sampson had done nothing wrong.

The point is why was she paid 80 Large and why is the person who paid her still in the job?
Secondly why didn't the Barrister interview her or the " mixed race midfielder " at the centre of the allegation? So who paid the Barrister? Why was she paid for not doing a thorough job and why is the person who paid her at the FA still employed by them? CLYDEBANK29 23 Aug 17 20:28 There should be an investigation into why she was paid £80k when it was concluded from the independent investigation which took place that Sampson had done nothing wrong. Are we all singing from the same hymn sheet here at last? One question though. How was it concluded that Sampson did nothing wrong when the person at the center of the allegation was not interviewed? |
|
By:
To pay out £80k implies guilt. (please can someone offend me - happy with 20 bags..)
To clear Sampson is therefore contradictory. To have a second enquiry implies incompetence and a large degree of pedantry. Teacup..storm....in..a.. |

so it's ok to pay someone £80,000?
Lets just brush it under the carpet? |

Strange times indeed. |

Absolute madness!
If they give away £80,000 then they should not receive any Government and Tax Payer money! The FA have a case to answer and they will be infront of MP's in The House soon enough. I hope they come up with some answers. |

May 2016: England forward Eniola Aluko is asked to participate in a cultural review of all England teams by the FA's technical director Dan Ashworth.
December 2016: An independent investigation, led by barrister Katharine Newton, follows the FA's internal inquiry. Aluko - a qualified lawyer - claims that during a meeting in 2015, Sampson made a "highly inappropriate remark" with "derogatory, racial and prejudicial connotations" to an unnamed player, asking how many times she had been arrested because she was of mixed race. March 2017: The independent review clears Sampson and his staff of wrongdoing but Aluko is paid £80,000 in a confidentiality agreement, which the FA insists was to avoid disruption to England's Euro 2017 campaign. 7 August 2017: Leaked details of the allegation made by Aluko emerge in a newspaper. 8 August 2017: Aluko confirms a complaint was made and she had reached a settlement with the FA earlier in the year. She adds she has "not quit the England team", despite not having played for over a year. 16 August 2017: Further details of the context of Aluko's allegations are revealed, including the accusations that racist remarks were made. 17 August 2017: The FA publishes a summary of the independent report's findings - in the form of a letter to Chelsea player Aluko - written by barrister Newton. It stresses again that the investigation "did not uphold any of Aluko's complaints and found no wrong-doing on behalf of the FA or others." 18 August 2017: Sampson said he welcomed the investigation and would be looking to improve his communication style. 21 August 2017: Aluko speaks to the BBC about the allegations for the first time. She accuses Sampson of making a racist comment to her ahead of an England game. After telling Sampson she had relatives coming from Nigeria to watch the game, Aluko claims Sampson replied: "Well make sure they don't come over with Ebola." 22 August 2017: The FA maintains its support of Sampson while the Professional Footballers' Association backs calls for a new investigation into how Aluko's complaints were handled. 5 September 2017: Sampson speaks publicly for the first time about the allegations and says his conscience is clear. 11 September 2017: Senior FA executives are told they will face a parliamentary inquiry over the investigations into Sampson's alleged "bullying and harassment" of Aluko. 12 September 2017: Sampson appears to contradict evidence he gave to the inquiry when he says he cannot recall ever having a conversation about Ebola with Aluko. England captain Steph Houghton says the manager retains her support. 14 September 2017: The FA says it could re-open its investigation into racism claims against Sampson after further evidence is submitted. 18 September 2017: England striker Jodie Taylor says the squad are now closer together following the allegations against Sampson. 19 September 2017: England begin their World Cup qualifying campaign by beating Russia 6-0. The players publicly celebrate with Sampson on the touchline. ^^^^^from bbc.co.uk something not right somewhere , lets hope parliament gets to the bottom of it. |

From donny's post the extent of Aluko's complaint is the ebola joke.
It's a bit like when foot and mouth was rampant here and farmers etc had to wash their boots to stop the spread of the disease. If I went to Nigeria and someone there said 'don't bring f&m here' would that be racist?? I just can't see it. It's a geographically apt comment. We know 'racially profiling' someone is now deemed to be racist which again makes no sense. The Japs are great at making electrical goods, the French produce amazing wine, the English are obese, Germans methodical, Americans loud etc etc... |
