Oh, I've eaten too much food in the last six months and piled the weight back on.
So I saw an article of intermittent fasting and have decided to try this madness.
After waking you don't eat for six hours. The idea is your body is in this repair cycle
when you were sleeping and by not eating you maintain the repair for the six hours
you are awake too. Then you eat within a 6-8 hour window(lean foods).
You are allowed drinks without sugar. (water?)

Has anyone tried this? any tips.. I'm on day one and I is sooo hungry.

it's just a fad, you will feeling faint by lunchtime.

Should eat every 2 hours, small snacks/meals, keeps matabolism active.

I think it makes sense to reduce the window to your most active hours but you should start with a good breakfast and don't eat too late in the evening otherwise your body will store those calories.
I nearly always start with a good bowl of Scottish porridge (oats and water) with a handful of sultanas cooked in. Yummy.

This has been covered in previous threads.  Also referred to as 5:2.

In brief, I have done it for 9 months and steadily lost nearly 2 stone.

It isn't a hardship.  You just need a little will-power.

With respect to Foinavon, I find if I have breakfast i.e. before 9.00 , I am just as hungry at lunchtime, if not more.

I do agree that eating late is a recipe for disaster.

Also, it will get easier...and don't do two fasting days in a row.

And FFS it isn't really 'fasting.'

It just means you don't have breakfast or lunch but you can have a perfectly acceptable meal for 600 calories later in the day.  Get some low cal meal 300-400 cals from the supermarket and add loads of veg.

5-2 diet works for me and has done for the past 4 years.Started at 14stone and got down to 12 in no time at all.Put a bit back on when i laxed but back on it now and and back under 13stone and heading south.Intermittent is hard to do where as the 5-2 is far more manageable.Mon and Thurs are my two days.It helps if you skip brekky on those two days i find.Cup of tea mid morning and a salad for lunch another cup of tea mid afternoon and a fish dish for dinner(without spuds of course).Drink loads of water and it will soon be an EAT day.G/L

I've been doing the 5-2 for a couple of months and have lost nearly 2 stone - starting at 17st 9ib.

My fast days are Friday & Monday and I usually have a can of soup with added vegetables such as leek & potato soup poured over a couple of pre-cooked leeks & also plenty of fruit.

As Jack says it's not much of a hardship just a bit of will power. I've also realised that I was eating loads of junk before and I'm now eating much more healthily on my non fast days.

True Badworth - I do eat better on non fast days.

Monday and Thursday for me too, but the beauty of it is that it is a 'moveable feast' Laugh

Mrs H reckons I don't need to do 2 days now so tonight, the BBQ is fired up and the beers are flowing!

i saw a Mario Lanza documentary on the BBC years ago. he sung best when he
was heavy(fat) and would record the score before filming. Then he would go
into a fat farm. they locked him in a room for about six weeks ans feed him
set meals.he was allowed one bottle of beer a day. But it backfired.
"the twilight sleep treatment", which required its patients to be kept
immobile and sedated for prolonged periods caused fibromyalgia. It took it's
toll and he died of a heart attack at the age of 38.

I've been on a no sugar in food kick since long before it became fashionable. It means I don't eat almost all processed/prepared foods since they have added sugar. Otherwise I eat whatever I like, whenever I like, and have never had a weight problem. Want a filling breakfast? Have a boiled potato with your bacon and eggs. As I do every day.

It will work if you stick to it. I lost over 2 stone doing while on it. The thing that has really worked for me though is a low carb diet. As pxb has pointed out it's the carbs that get you. I've had no potatoes or rice for over a month now and can honestly say I haven't missed them.
I've changed my bread to Burgens Bread as it has less carbs in and easily find I'm happy with 4 slices a week. Breakfast now is usually strawberries etc with goats yoghurt.
I still drink though but have still lost a stone and a half. My blood pressure and blood sugar readings are now that of a normal healthy person.
But best of all I don't feel like I'm dieting and know I'll have no problem carrying on with it. This book is excellent for showing how many carbs in each food.

When you go to the supermarket check out what fat people put in their shopping cart. You'll find, almost without exception, large amounts of carbonated drinks and processed foods.

pxb has nailed it by excluding sugar.
Sugar is addictive and causes cravings.

When I was younger, if I felt peckish I'd eat a biscuit, and finish up by eating the whole packet. Then start on the cakes.

Now if I feel hungry between meals I eat an item of fruit or a few nuts and that does the trick.
Get the sugar out of your diet and you'll find losing weight a lot easier.

I weigh 47kg, eat whatever i feel like(lots of carbonated drinks in the last 3 months, almost none from 2014-2016). I dont know what a food craving is, though i need to bite on meat every few days. Otherwise i start fantasising about it. If I force myself to eat a lot, I get sick after about a week and any weight ive gained(at most a kilo) vanishes and im back at 47. The only time i touched 50, i had a flu and i was imediately back to 46. Basically if i miss a meal, i lose weight.

What are you folks on about?

Here's something else to consider if you care about your health:

Buy yourself a blood glucose meter.
Follow the instructions and take some readings.
Then see how far off from developing diabetes you are.

The normal range after fasting is  5 - 6.1
6.1 - 6.9 is pre diabetes.
Over that and you're in trouble.

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

The results might shock you into losing that weight and force you to develop good eating habits and to take some exercise.

High blood sugar is like slow poison, but you can help yourself before it gets too bad.

Some confusion here. Some posters are talking about 5/2 diets which I do not think is what the OP meant. I'm not sure any posts directly address OP's question. Tbh it sounds like the worst sort of fad diet but I'm no expert.

All diets amount to the same thing. You eat less and you lose weight.

If you cut right down on carbs you lose weight faster.

I work in a physical job 5 1/2 days a week. I never have lunch and quite often I skip brekkie too. It's all very odd as I don't get hungry. Still over 14stone which I'm happy enough with.

We're told regular exercise helps. It doesn't. Your body becoems more efficient as you get fitter and burns less fat. In some ways it increases weight due to musle toning.

Carbs and sugar are the enemies. An booze. Not in itself per se. More that the body processes it first (as it's a toxin) and neglects food digestion. That leads to food being stored as fat rather than broken down.

Yes that's right Injera the body burns off the alcohol first, so the food goes to fat.

Alcohol is sugar as far as putting on weight is concerned.

If I were diabetic I wouldn't go near alcohol.

In fact I'd have knocked the drinking on the head years ago if I'd know then what I know now about drinking.

I drink most days but not a lot anymoe. I'm diabetic and with what I'm doing now my reading is between 3-5. After food it rises to 6. We're all different and it's a case of doing what works for you.

Sugar/Carbs are lethal.

Cook meals, whole foods not processed. Dead simple stuff like chuck chicken thighs (no skin) in a pan with tinned tomatoes and curry powder, cook on low for about 2 hours so it all falls apart and have with rice.

The Slimming World thing now is basically a 3rd of your plate needs to be veg/salad it just fills you up.

I don't have a sweet tooth, bee is my thing, I stopped drinking for 6 months last October when I was just about 23 stone, was 16.25 this morning :=)
