Jesus is first talking about the Jewish disposition - then he looks at the christian disposition. the bible does this in revelation too. one does not follow the other. the end from the beginning.
there is no sign needed before the rapture. it's described as imminent. Jesus says - And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.(no delay is implied - John 14) the story of Abraham and Isaac, the sacrifice of the son. the next event for Abraham and Isaac is a wedding. Jesus is following this pattern. He's coming back for his bride, the faithful. read from verse 37 first. the church(the people who are christians) has to be wrapped up first. Then God returns to the Jews. Their eyes will be opened by what happened to the church and their longing for the Messiah will be rekindled. |

He's looking at the land around him and he SEES the future of the land. He's seeing the new Israel of 1947/48. As you say, a generation is 70 years, he gave a time limit. It didn't happen within that time limit. Just one instance where either the men who made up the bible stories made a c0ck up or where Jesus showed himself to be fallible. When someone pointed out the nonsense verse those with a vested interest scurried around to invent a new interpretation of what is clearly stated in black and white. You pick and choose what you want to believe to be the literal truth and what you need to "interpret" to try and make consistency out of inconsistency. The whole charade is pure nonsense.

Read all of Mathew 23 - It plainly describes the end times destruction. the apostles ask Jesus this question - and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. Fionavon are you that man? And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (does this sound like a few years he's describing?) Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.(auchwitz comes to mind) And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Your dainty line is much further down.. verse 34. So recap - don't post a single line out of context. It's dishonest. He's talking about the end of the world. Not about the next fortnight. I know you want to believe all that, Zoz, so we are talking at cross purposes as usual.
Jesus was telling his audience about disturbing events that would happen in their lifetime. What would be the point of telling them about what might happen 2000 years in the future? That's just a modern interpretation to try and shoehorn "prophesy" into history and make scripture relevant to today. We can see what happens to predictions about global warming or population growth for example. If it won't affect us in our lifetime we're not interested is the general view. You are only interested in biblical prediction because you think it will happen soon. If the bible told you either directly or through a numbers game that Armageddon won't happen for another 2000 years then you would be disappointed and would lose interest. |

actually foinavon there is a famous case of a british sailor swept overboard in the 1800s hunting whales
he was thought to be lost in the sea but later a whale was harpooned and on board cut open and the sailor was inside alive. He lived to old age with skin bleached very white by the acid in the whales stomach. |
