You couldn't make it up. ![]() |

You couldn't make it up, but they will, they will squirm, lie and do everything they can to cover their asses, but thankfully we are not in the 80s now, even though their mindset appears stuck there. They just don't get it.

I wish you would all stop moaning. These council persons know what is best. The majority who voted them in want to keep the place looking nice. That was how this started wasn't it? Making the place look tidy and an Ethiopian's fridge caught fire? The council cabinet are just tidying everything up in line with their manifesto.
How did that one work out? |
By:
didn't the leader blame the tenants in a Mirror paper article/interview?

Could be Dozens of unregistered Imagine Sub renting for what ever reason Surviving that and you cant say anything

Well, well, well, who would have thought this might happen?

The main culprit is the outdated one size fits all Class 0 spread of flame model, it allows company's to meet minimum standards as long as the surface can get by this regulation never mind what combustibility lies behind it!.
Ironic that an American company manufactured these panels that are banned in America, have the manufactures got blood on their hands, I'll let you make your own mind up on that one. Laboratory type testing conditions can never mimic the real thing so if they are to be relied on this will occur again in some other form. I'm sure 'they' will say we have perfectly good fire regs that just need proper application, WE DON'T. The company I worked for conducted far more rigorous tests on their products than was required, because we considered the regs to be fatally flawed/weak. We were awarded a 4 hr rating on our products, our own tests only stopped after we had surpassed 4 hrs easily and the product retained it's integrity. and was still providing vital cover. |
By:
the american company has withdrawn the product from sale a week or so after the fire
i guess sales were down anyway |
By:
Correct Donny the product was totally exposed for what it was and the previous deaths it had caused.

Cladding switched to save £300,000 of course lets not make it political no no,bad taste fcuk off!!

So the leader of the Council has 'stepped down' and not before time. Is he going to be allowed to do a Lord Lucan or will he have to answer for his incompetence?
By:
I wonder what Cause this 300 K was Directed to ?
By:
all pointless speculation till the fire service inquiry says that the more expensive cladding wouldn't have reacted the same way under the conditions of that evening, oxygen flow, air gaps, insulation etc all likely to have played a greater part than the actual cladding
By:
The sheer arrogance of these councillors is unbelievable.
https://uk.yahoo.com/news/tory-councillor-says-court-order-093502531.html |
By:
they simply do not get it, do they. The leader, in a Mirror interview, early on, actually accused the tenants to begin with!!!
By:
Yep the leader said he was 'stepping aside' because of 'perceived failings' and now Councillor Catherine Faulks has called the fact that the public and press wanted to scrutinise the council meeting as a 'stunt'.
By:
i agree ,until we have better housing we should not take any more immigrants, they desrerve so much better than we can offer sadly
By:
No council, and certainly no landlord ever admits guilt. They're trained not to.
It's a blight on us all. No transparency, always covering their ars*s. |
By:
Will the former Ciouncil leader be paid for his services to the Public Inquiry?
By:
Now we've got hospital patients at risk through being clad in the same way as Grenfell wtf is going on in our green and pleasant land.

Whatever it is cooperman its been going on a long time under ALL political parties

Probably going to open up myself for a torrent of abuse but this place is for opinions so here's mine ! Personally I'm getting fed up hearing about the surviving tenants of Grenfell towers. They have been offered housing by the government which many have turned down for some pretty lame excuses. One was where they were offered a place "It was on a busy street" ffs your living in central London what do you expect then there was one on telly this morning with his daughter saying he did not take up the offer as it was a mile away from his daughters school ! During my youth I had many schools due to the family constantly moving so that my step father could pursue his career, I can't recall one school being within a one mile radius of where we lived. I feel so sad for the people who died in such a horrific way and for their surviving family members knowing that their loved one passing was in such terrible circumstances. However I feel that some of this is more about the compensation culture that has been created in this country.
By:
down to the government again i,m afraid, who in their right mind is going to agree to a move when the government told the whole world theres going to be 70 2 million flats made available in a few months,of course these people backed up by lawyers .public opinion etc are going to milk this for all its worth,if any of these people had money 99.9% of it would be in a bank account not burned in a fire yet 3 weeks later they still go on about needing money, why do we assume that in any disaster that the people involved need access to millions of pounds
By:
What amazes me is that they have been offered housing at all ! If the local authorities/government can come up with over a hundred houses all of a sudden. Why is there a housing shortage
![]() |
By:
At the very least they should be offered housing rent-free in perpetuity. I would go further and suggest they should be given full ownership of said properties.
By:
Everyone involved in an accident should get lifetime everything they want, or just this lot?

Those people who are not fortunate enough to get social housing have very little security in their private rentals. They might get a year contract but most are 6 months or run month to month with the constant fear of being moved on. Then you have people in social housing demanding long-term security and right to stay in very expensive areas they could not afford on the open market. They also have the right to buy which private renter obviously do not. It seems very unfair on the private renters who pay market rent and taxes that subsidize social housing. |

survivors/displaced making demands like they have hostages ,is it true they want UK citizenship for everyone including illegals ? would a dangerous path to go down imo

just read in the mail everyone one of the shards 50 million pound apartments has remained empty for 5 years because luxury buyers don't want to live south of the river.maybe corbyn,s not as mad as he sounds
you,d have thought these property experts, developers might have thought about this before building them |
By:
Can't blame them - how would they get home from the West End after midnight?
By:
Shard maybe south of the river, but it's just about south of the river, I mean literally less than 5 minutes til the bridge, and London Bridge at that. strange if that's the case.

when your paying 50 million postcode is obviously everything
