Guys this is not about politics or political agendas. It's about Local government (whoever runs it) budget allocation and superficial projects that look like they are modernising a building and bringing it into the 21st century. Architects, contractors, applicators, etc all had a part to play, not forgetting our fire regulations, best in world ffs. The fact that this product has caused the same problems around the world over for quite a few years now seems generally lost on our dreadful media.

Mr Corbyn said the London borough was a 'tale of two cities' between a wealthy south and a rich north. He suggested that 'requisitioning' would be a solution. 'Properties must be found - requisitioned if necessary - in order to make sure that residents do get rehoused locally,' he said. Shocked

what exactly are local council and government actually doing

shouldn't they be in there now acting upon it as if it were a disaster and a national emergency

which it is of course

Bound to have been plenty of 'bungs' flying around from contractors to council officials. Plenty of them probably shytting themselves and trying to cover their tracks

I heard on the news that "now there is a pattern to highrise fires and cladding". The pattern was already there last week, and for a few years before that, yet still we refurb with it. Crazy

Saddo would you like a fuller explanation?. I can give it for what it's worth. Plain

I agree with your 17.29 BTF. I have come across many "professionals" involved in the building game. Many of them know far less than the people actually doing the job.

anyone know how the cladding (the sandwich) is attatched to the building

on another angle - how fierce does steel and concrete burn - if the building hadn't had cladding it would just be that wouldn't it??

I worked for a company that specialised in and indeed were world leaders in construction fire protection and insulation products. I dealt with companies and authorities world wide.

We provided fire protection from 1/2 hour to 4 hrs depending on thickness of application, (cementitious/vermiculite spray) or particle board thickness.

We stopped competing against cheaper ACM cassette systems, such as the thick polystyrene or mineral core metal encased  (sometimes open ended) products because Architects, (their clients) local authorities, building contractors etc nearly always went for the cheapest solution.

It's like the old 'fur coat no knickers' vanity expression, yes the outward appearance is great (or as good as more expensive systems), but something is compromised to achieve the effect. On the face of it this was at best a vanity project, at worst a vanity/backhander decision.

The building industry is the most incestuous/corrupt industry I have ever witnessed, simply because even the smallest project is worth millions, and people are greedy!.

Our fire regulations, ARE NOT THE BEST IN THE WORLD, in some cases they are woeful. I wont bother citing BS 476 parts 5 now obsolete) 6 and 7, class O (Spread of flame) and 1. deflection , K values etc, because this project was not a building envelope with fire resistant thermal, and acoustic properties, more like sticking plasters in a nice colour.

There are many other ways that this building could have been made safer, but it would not have looked as good or even have any outside visibility.

Good read BTF. It's not just councils though, people ring me about jobs and usually the quality of work or materials does not get a mention. They are only after the cheapest price, so I let em go off and find it.

Moisok steel and concrete can be made fire resistant for up to 4 hrs, the technology has been around for years, it just takes money!.Plain

do we already know they were on the case in dubai after all those fires

there was an expert who is in charge of all that over there who seemed to be saying they have
fundamentally different regulations in dubai?

but they got caught out first didn't they

but that has all changed according to the expert who was in dubai

I wonder if we will see that interview again

Like other pieces that are uncomfortable hearing/reading - seems to disappear for some reason?

where's the council and government in all this

why are they not there sorting out a disaster (and don't just say the police and fire brigade are sorting it first)

"is the building likely to collapse"...mmm funny that innit !
No collapse.
The only "Steel Framed Building(s)" that have collapsed through fire were the 911 Towers..Wink
