the other thing is these guys look for parents that are slack with their kids. It provides an excellent excuse. parents that are not protecting them 24 hrs a day. It's like a duckling that's fallen behind the pack. it gets picked off first. It's a window of opportunity crime.

the British police commissioner tells you 1 in 500 guys are sexual predators, that I would imagine includes people in power. men that can be covered by their colleagues.

An excellent point about Freud zorro,we had a long talk with a prison psychologist who interviews paedos and she made the specific point that they will target kids left by parents as they will have more time to plan their abduction and escape. They are usually very,very smart and clinical about their criminal behvaiour. Freud knew far more than he let on IMHO, approaching the family after the event could easily have bene to ascertain the progress of the police investigation whilst sneering at 'less intelligent' people.

i remember my teacher at school asking us how many hours a day do you watch. I was always a high hour count. But most students would say 2 or 3 hours - It's changed now, everyone has got contracts with Netflix or some other provider and watch 8 hours a day?

The mccanns are prepared to do anything for as long as it takes to find their daughter.apart from take a lie detector test which would have removed an awful lot of police time & doubt about their stories.apart from undergoing hypnosis which though unlikely may have brought new evidence.apart from telling the police the whole story about what happened that night. Yes,they really have tried everything.

I don't think we will ever know what happened that night unless someone manages to find the very big piece of the jigsaw which is currently missing. Without wishing to point the finger you can't help but think the McCanns know a bit more they let on.

saddo.....I hate to ask you this question but was you there..........I think shes dead myself......think she was either abducted or died accidently and the body hidden by the parents...if the 2nd option is true you would think they would want this story to die a death...I think she they should have done the lie detector test.....if I was innocent I would

saddo........think she almost certainly died that night ....I think if she was abducted and the parents are saying the truth you cant blame them for wanting to keep searching........but I do think they should have faced a neglect charge on landing back on british soil.........a council estate couple would have for sure

Unfair to condemn, at that time many would have assumed the kids were alright on a holiday compound, the scourge of paedos was yet to become headline news. Mercifully we were spared that with our girl but many of my contemporaries took holidays and such risks that are now out of the question. Hindsight is easily done but it does look as if cold hearted kidnapping could have taken place. Twenty years ago I heard of kidnapping taking place in the middle east for organ transplants that were done in India and the child could mysteriously reappear near the home looking dishevelled but otherwise unharmed (on the surface).We have had cases in USA and Austrian where girls have been snatched and kept prisoner for sex but freed ten years or more later when they were adults.None of us knows for sure and it is just nasty to speculate on guilt of parents who have tried everything humanly possible to find their child,wouldn't they have quietly retreated into oblivion if they had any guilt themselves ?

Easy to say with hindsight case but I would wager that there were many on that compound assuming the kids would be alright. Reading the case stories other parents were checking up on the kids during the meals as well. The PC environment we have now would have them crucified on Mumsnet.

Anything aka,we just do not know but tainting parents who are already traumatised by accusing them of neglect is just nasty when there is no proof,merely an opinion or speculation. We do not know what has happened,simple.

I take your point about neglectful aka but it was a common practice and many,many parents got away with it until then.I witnessed it many times on compounds in Saudi Arabia during the 90's. Everyone is wiser now but it has to hurt when you are already traumatised by such a tragic event.

I am at risk of being similarly accused, although I think this is my first ever post on the subject, BUT what it it about this story that causes apparently rational and sensible people to post over and over again, saying roughly the same thing.

i live in a town with a small population. At age 9, our class was split up into two and half my friends ended up in a class with a man who would be convicted later as a pedophile. I dodged a bullet? my friends didn't, i don't know who was his victims. the thought of friends being pawed by some predator is mind blowing. he was caught twenty years later.
my brother was nearly snatched at five out of a shop by a strange woman? my mother caught up to her down the street. that's in a tame little town?

You must spend a fair bit of time on the threads to be able to make that comment blackbarn.
Maybe same comments but would imagine most are to diff people.
