Ovalman - i think Doctors just take this overall stance with alcohol .
doesn't matter if it's heart, lungs or a sore throat - they just seem to have this almost zero tolerance . would be interesting to see the stats on high drinking countries and see their illness tables . |

"Its hard not to eat processed food its always there cheap and available but its the reason for so many problems."
This reminds me of a woman I once worked with. She was the biggest tub of lard you ever did see. She used to take crisps and chocolate bars for her lunch at work. She used to moan about her size, saying she didn't have time to eat healthily and it was quick to grab a packet of crisps and a chocoloate bar on leaving the house. I suggested she took fruit, as I did and it was just as quick and a lot healthier. I would often take an apple, orange and a banana, this would see me through the day. One day when she was munching on her twix and I was eating my banana she warned me of the high sugar content of a banana. I was speechless ![]() |

I think she was looking for a reaction Diva

it's probably your high sugar content due to all the bananas that put her off

Altho she was taking the p1.ss, she accidentally stumbled on a truth. I'd wager there's more sugar in a banana than in a twix.
|
|
By:
Quite possibly.
Apparently two slices of wholemeal bread will give you more of a sugar spike than a Snickers bar. A banana is much better for you than a twix though, so I'll stick with bananas. |
|
By:
Btw, she wasn't taking the P. She was trying to alleviate her guilt at eating junk. She was so annoyed with herself for being overweight.

Best food for lowering cholesterol is porridge every morning.
|
|
By:
cholesterol generally is manufactured in the body, excess amounts are a reaction to inflammation which is often caused by stress, nutritional deficiencies, and unhealthy foods like trans fats, sugar, grains and other simple carbohydrates. drugs like statins are at best masking these stressors which should be fixed, and at worst causing a new set of effects.
Cholesterol in food has little effect on chol levels in blood, and altered seed oils (low chol) are probably much more damaging than butter or eggs (high chol) |
|
By:
You can take plant sterols which are proven to lower cholesterol - either as directly or e.g. in yoghurt.

what Polybot says
|
|
By:
Flora Proactive - Light,Buttery, or Olive. Great taste and you can spread it on thick. Contains plant sterols and they claim it actively reduces cholesterol levels. Been using the Light version for about 5 yrs. My latest cholesterol level was 3.0. Also have porridge every day.

avoid all fats except butter and coconut oil. even then use them sparingly. don't lash it on.
the hose pipe theory - your food has to travel through a series of tubing to get to the other end. gross. if you eat meat, chicken, chops, steak. you will be constipated. if you eat just veg, your arris could feel raw? so a happy medium. veg with coldcuts. try and avoid sausages and chunks o meat. |
|
By:
raw garlic is a good way to flush out those pipes ,but i guarantee it's also the quickest way to lose your friends

Zorro, what's the danger with pork? I've been eating a lot more pork and a lot less beef in the last 3 years. I thought it was a smart move health-wise.
|
|
By:
Should point out I mean lean minced pork, not sausages (which I've cut back on).

Its funny how the people with the most health problems tend to be the ones most likely to give out advice on what to eat.
