What's your current score level? Is it above 5?
By:
It's genetic from what I gather, mine is 3 and my diet isn't that great although I eat a lot of fruit and veg.
By:
Cholesterol is soluble in alcohol. I've never had a problem - with cholesterol, that is.
By:
So is your liver....unfortunately.
By:
5 would be a godsend. Mine was high 8's not long ago, and I'm not far above 40. Years of "living" no doubt. Simvastatin is the best of their kind for non side effects, but alongside the diet.

bodil....have you ever tried abstinence?
By:
Yeah, Leopard - it's a trade off. Tbf, as a fairly well-informed scientist (in spite of my best efforts), there is a lot of uncertainty about the effects of cholesterol. Not sure the latest research has made it out of the medical schools yet. Younger doctors will have different ideas. Possibly more about genetics than diet? Butter's back in favour, thank god.

7.0just been told this week Doc said if I had got 7.5 I would be taking satins wtf

By:
I'm 50 Kriskin, my Mum and Dad had very low cholesterol levels as well, must be something to do with the genes. I love a full English breakfast, eat what I like really and don't put on any weight, only 12 stone the same weight as I was when I was 18.

you don't know you're born you lot. Get a life and live a little. You only live once.
By:
We're going to live twenty more years than you though

By:
Hell yes, Leopard. Had a year off and several 6 month spells - the liver has amazing powers of regeneration. I keep a sharp eye out for the usual signs - though it can spring a surprise on you.
High cholesterol may have been an evolutionary advantage in early years, before turning deleterious in later life. For most of the lifespan of our species you bred early and were dead by 30. Hence old-age problems weren't a problem. It's our fault for living too long. |

I'll die tonight happily. Just say the word. In fact you may have just tipped me over. Was gonna leave that chocolate eclair to the morning. See what you've done.
By:
I'm not even over weight. It's the stress of worrying about who's gonna get banned

By:
Missing you already.

I'll miss you all more than I can articulate that's why I keep coming back.

By:
Funnily enough, looking forward to the next Cheltenham Festival is a great incentive to keep on keeping on. Though at the end of the 4 days you often wonder why. Hope springs eternal, I guess.

I take Statins all I notice is the flatulence whithin an hour of taking them but if it stops my arteries from clogging any more than they are now
they are a good thing .My diet is virtually no red meat and lots of pulses vegetables and brown bread but we all end up brown bread... |
By:
It's probably more about the spring springing than the hope springing. Winters a btch.
By:
Increasingly so - though the days are getting noticeably longer - we're through the worst 7 weeks now.
By:
I started taking vitamin D to counteract the lack of sunlight...... which can give you SAD....feel chipper !
By:
I sit under one of those SAD lights most of the day The Leopard. Works really well but the marijuana plants are suffering badly.
By:

By:
I prefer Happy lights

cholesterol is needed to heal veins and arteries.
eat an egg a day. avoid all clear oils - all. use butter and coconut oil eat seeds buy cider vinegar, use it on salads. buy lemonjuice - add two capfuls to two litres of water daily. avoid vegetables with cellulose, unless you cook them thoroughly avoid fruit with skins - peel them. apples - insoluble fibre. eat a handful of brazil nuts weekly eat a handful of almonds weekly eat raw oats (with yogurt) silica for bones.(horse's coat, nice shine) avoid slabs of meat. avoid pork. good hot tea to flush away anything greasy. stops fat congealing. that is all - message out. |

In line with forum etiquette The Leopard, and with the exception of the odd rare insight, much like yourself, most of what I say is for dramatic effect.
By:
but the cholesterol bit is true.
By:
I changed my diet and take prescribed statins. 3.1 is my usual reading but when I make an effort I get it to 2.8.

zorro strikes is correct - but it takes a lotttt of discipline to stick to it for very long ,and once you start eating other unsuitable foods it sort of takes over and is wiped from the memory .
Still not sure what effect drinking alcohol has on c/levels - the hardest of all things to give up imo ![]() |
By:
and who the hell can stomach semi skimmed milk ?
![]() ![]() |
By:
Alcohol is probably the worst Coach. I have slightly high levels that would be wiped out if I stopped drinking (so the doctor tells me but he would say that wouldn't he?)

To anybody who thinks peeling Apples is clever..

Alcohol does not affect my cholesterol level. It is the rubbish that you have to cut out ; pasties , pies, sausages etc.
