We have a hotel in Great Yarmouth with a basement apartment, about 75 yards from the Beach. Had a similar situation there a couple of years ago, the Old Bill were coming round during the day trying to get everyone out. High tide was about 9pm iirc, there were hundreds of people down the front trying to welcome the tide in. It got about 100 yards in places higher up the beach than it normally does, but stopped just short of the path. There was a palpable sense of disappointment as people trudged off afterwards.

Kay Burley would have been in floods of tears at such a benign outcome.

It's funny what people get up to, so many houses with a token sandbag or two, nowhere near enough to stop an overflowing sea. Pubs were pretty busy too.

Bright sunny day, first snow is due tonight and then for most of the week, could be up to 8" in places.

THing about lying snow is obviously (or not) it's the blue sky above it.

I.e. It's often the clouds that are our warm jumper!

Kent County Council have issued an emergency warning

"Don't call us, we'll call you!"

A couple of light flurries and no snow has settled yet. It may arrive tomorrow morning. They say they are gritting. The signs on the A2 have said " gritting " for weeks!

Have I seen a gritter?..........Noooooooooooooooooooo!

We will get a message tomorrow lunchtime after the snow has fallen that due to cut backs no gritters were out last night to save on overtime and now the gritters are stuck in the yard because of the snow but it doesn't matter anyway because we have no salt and in any case two inches of snow will send the country on lockdown and panic buying so what is the point!

Pathetic that people are talking about a few flakes of snow. akabula will confirm that when we were kids you got a couple of feet every winter, more like 6 feet with drifts. And we went to school and made 30 feet ice slides,, none of this school closing nonsense.

People are heavily reliant on public transport and cars nowadays, and they useless in this weather hence the problems. I don't drive, don't use public transport and so can have a laugh at the pathetic carry on during this little wintery period. What are people moaning about, you can blag off work during the worst of it anyway.

Yeap. The media are selling it as one big end of days prophecy coming true. Schools were closed the moment 1 flake hit the ground, trains immediately cancelled, flight cancelled. How did we ever fight a world war again?

BBC have got a picture of a lorry parked up with no snow around it really, and calling it "chaotic"... giving new meaning to the phrase "over the top"

I'm expecting a run over Pidgeon to be all over the news soon, the end of time is here.
