Not sure that majority of people realise that you qualify for a full state pension after 30 years of NI contributions.
Still required to pay NI after this period, before you retire, but it's all ' wasted money' - you won't get any extra pension. |
|
By:
I'm pretty certain that if you were born after 6th April 1951, it's 35 years of contributions now.
|
|
By:
It is 35 years

Is it not strange that a resident of the Betfair forum that calls himself Facts can't seem to get his own FACTS correct

By:
Perhaps it's through sarcasm he is called FACTS.
Like a midgit i know, they call him Long'en ![]() |

Que a response from a snowflake saying i am being heightest

there were no complaints when it was 40 years lord only no,s why they dropped it to 30,then back to 35, it will obviously go back to 40 in time

I don't think Facts should refer to National Insurance contributions as "wasted money":
What do National Insurance payments pay for? Your National Insurance payments go towards state benefits and services, including: The NHS Unemployment benefits Sickness and disability allowances The State Pension Maybe Facts doesn't care about the sick, unemployed and disabled ![]() |

of course under the last so called unworkable system a working man on a decent wage could get a combined state pension of up to £270, now you can work as long as you like and earn as much as you like still pay the same amount of ni and be limited to a maximum of £155,of course no word of the where the extra money goes

I'm pretty certain that if you were born after 6th April 1951, it's 35 years of contributions now. I was born before that date. You're correct it's now 35 years Crisp Wasted in terms of ones own personal pension. |
|
By:
paying £30 ni or £100 ni is also now wasted as everyone in future will get £155 no matter how much ni you pay,no word from the government where the extra money goes,
this flat rate pension for which libdem mp webb got parlimanterian of the year is probably the biggest scam ever waved through the house of commons, perfect example of 660 mp,s waving something through with probably less than 10 of them understanding what it mean, biggest con ever |

Agreed

By:
For a long time, I have believed that pensions will be means tested by the time I get to retire.
|
|
By:
why dont they call it income tax instead of NI after 35 years
because its a dirty word and they fight over bringing headline taxes down whilst draining the public in other ways of course if you are rich you dont need pay any tax trumpy reckons its a mugs game |
|
By:
There are a myriad of taxes, but NI isn't one. As it goes towards your 35 year contribution target and therefore your pension, there are some direct-ish benefits.
There are no benefits to paying income tax other than the altruistic! |

Generations of women retired at 60 , on it's way to 68 for the rest , my missus wont be happy.
|
|
By:
of course NI is a tax
|
|
By:
It all comes out of the same pot and all goes down the same hole.
|
|
By:
yeh but if you carry on working after 65 at present you dont pay ni,if its added to the paye you will pay it,so with more and more people working past their retirement date you can bet you bottom dollar the 2 will be merged free money for the government,

Its all very well saying people must work for longer but I'd love to know what industries are crying out to employ 66 year olds.

It's been known for many years now that retirement age is now 66 and in some case (mine included) it is 67. As for the NI contributions, last year I'd comfortably passed the 30 year barrier and have a quote in the drawer beside me clearly stating this. I've now ordered another under the new rules but I think, in April 2016, I hit 35 years. Didn't it used to be 44 years at one time

You know the daft thing about all of this; ok, nowhere near retirement but the first two to arrive every day (me and a female colleague) are both in their 50's; all the others are under 30 and not one of them of them arrive, on time, on ANY day... and this includes the manager! Go figure!
One company I admire in this field is GSK. For some reason age isn't a problem with them and they hire old just as much as any young and they pay well too! (I'm not with them btw) |

In factories etc they want you at your position/station whatever they call it now at say 9am your start time
But they want you to turn up 10 minutes or so before to get into your factory gear which takes a good few minutes. You should be paid from entry to leaving when you arrive at your post as they have you on watch getting ready. |
