Fair enough when you finish maybe say right that's it as people would maybe take the p1ss by leaving 30 minutes behind or so ( doubt it though as no one likes to hang about after work )

But if they say turn up at 10 to 9 because you need to be at your position at 9am as the other guy will be leaving then why not get paid for they 10 minutes?

I couldn't agree more in that scenario but isn't it the case of "ready for work" at 9am and if that includes being suitable dressed then that is the contract you sign... no?

We had a barney with the area manager about signing in and out. He stated there wasn't sufficient room on the register for this but then the (Irish) manager argued that we have about 20 cigs a day... point taken! Laugh

no links just something you pick up at grouse, safety meetings etc

its 2 fold hygiene , and your not considered as getting a break if your still at your desk, plus some companies see it as a chance for all staff top to bottom to eat in the same space

Done one test fire alarm chaser but nothing more. Easy to form a queue when nobody is genuinely worried.

As for the links 1tp I recently received an email stating we could eat at our desks too

course they do because it suits management for you to still be at your station whilst having your break it also suits the employee,s sometimes, but if want to fight it and have a union etc the law says your entitled to your dinner away from the work station, obviously in todays workplace they,ll try to chase you,but in dirty factorys etc your entitled to wash up remove your overalls,PE, etc and have your break in a designated area ,canteen etc
By:

that's not what you said originally. You said it was against the law to have dinner at your work station, not that you had the right to have it elsewhere

if your work station has some valuable tecq equipment on it try pouring a few cups of hot coffee over it ,doing a few grands worth of damage and see what they say about having your lunch at your station

with an agency i worked for they must have been desperate as out of like 500 people i think 20% where maybe from the UK

None of the others could hardly speak English this guy said he was from Argentina but i had my doubts as i know some Spanish words Laugh

When i joined the photocopier was broken and told to keep our photo IDS until it got fixed anyway when i left it still wasn't sorted so how many illegals i wonder.

I know that, but I want you to show me the H&S legislation (law). Can't be hard if you're familiar with it. A I say, might be useful.
