i think the media are winning. They tell you he's a flake and you are believing them without waiting to see what happens. Guy is in job a month?

They've been at constant war for 16 years? how is that sane.

its the republicans, that's what they do. They mirror the tories over here.
Drop anything sensible like helping your citizens and make more weapons.
It's empire mentality.

After de Chirico.
Doing this was not easy and gave me a better insight of what he was trying to achieve. This painting is going on my wall.

what's the story of this painting?

a deserted street?
a young girl playing with a wheel rim and stick.
a menacing shadow figure above with a stick too?
an open horse box... waiting for the girl to step in...
dark cloisters where another figure might be waiting?
a red flag flying high in the background.

gentlemens and ludies - it's murder.
call the squad room.

A menacing situation to evoke anxiety is shown. You are right zorro. The false perspectives and impossible light and shadow heighten the strangeness of the scene. The girl is transparent monochrome done with a couple of strokes of the brush as if she's not really there, a ghost perhaps? It's dreamlike memories or a nightmare. De Chirico was an early surrealist and possibly the best of them. I like to view this one, which de Chirico called "Mystery and Melancholy on a Street", as an abstract with attractive blocks of colour which grab the attention.

second look - the horse box has spoke wheels, Gypsies?

the circle is complete. let's blame the gypsies.

Yes - the colours are very high key, Foinavon - very bold.

I see the bloke from THE ARTFUL CODGERS is selling LS LOWRY copies for £6,000 - great stuff...he is mega talented.

Wow, nice work if you can get it. I would do you 10 for that price. Grin

De Chirico painted the original in 1914 so the Gypsies have been blamed for a long time.

Thinking of Lowry and his industrial landscapes reminded me of Raymond Depardon's collection of photos of Glasgow from 1980.
I was wondering what you, Velasquez and Zorro, being from that fair city, think of them. It looks to me like he consciously
sought out to portray the worst aspects rather than give a balanced view.

all in the rainy days - Glasgow is a friendly town, whenever i go into it. I always get a conversation from a stranger. the town i live in is a vacuum. it's for couples that bring up kids. a huge creche. anticeptic life with nice trees. I see it like a stepford town. Glasgow has a soul. you either get a kiss or a slap from it.
Up until about 1990 - it was an industrial town. A lot of the landscape has been swept away from those photos. new housing replacing it all. Glasgow looked like China does now. industry running rampant over people. A large portion of it now is a hipster zone.
i remember travelling to London a few years ago by bus and when I was in the bus station i was hammered by warnings of pick pockets. Sometimes the impression of a town has to come from being there for a few weeks. Not from a quick look from Photos.
I've not visited Glasgow for five years. I used to work five days a week in it. from 1983 to 1995. emptying all the houses all over it for the auctioneers. You saw how everybody lived. from the hovels to the country estates.  Glasgow isn't a uniform place. there's bits that look like Manchester, bits like Park Lane, bits of fantasy land.
All the docklands are now fancy houses by the quay. It's slowly being absorbed by the gentrification brigade.
I see the housing programs where the people pay 500,000 for a normal sized house. The same house can be bought in a nice neighbourhood in glasgow for £125,000 and you could live off the 375,000 for the rest of your days?
