You've captured the intensity of the performer there Zorro. Very good.

Remember Red Adaire being called in to fix the burning oil wells in Kuwait following the Iraqi invasion? This is a gouache painting of one of the news images from that time.

Quality, Aka.....check out YVES KLEIN - INTERNATIONAL BLUE.

I looked up International Klein Blue.
Klein took synthetic ultramarine blue and dispersed it in PVA to make the paint.
As PVA is colourless and non-yellowing this would have been a purer blue than could be seen from oil paints at that time.(1962)
Modern day acrylic paints are based on PVA binder with a few additives, so a good quality ultramarine blue acrylic paint should give a very similar hue.

That's lovely, Zorro. Love the colours.

Really liked Red Adair too, Foinavon.

How many paintings have you two done?!

Never counted them M-D. If you include sketches then hundreds. Many have been given away to family and friends including portraits and of the rest I would only post a few on here.

Very good Zorro. I like the sculpting of the arm with the bow. Most beginners draw sausages, yours is well observed.

I'm about ready to pack up Zorro. Probably posted around 40 already which is more than enough.
Looking forward to seeing Starry night when finished.

Ok this is the last one so will leave the stage clear for you to do the honours Zorro.Happy

In 1893 Mr J C Burrow published some early photos of tin mining in Cornwall. They show the atrocious conditions in which the miners had to work. In view of the poor lighting and primitive nature of photography at that time I guess the pictures must have been staged.
Here is an article about those photos and you can see the one I painted below.

Brilliant painting of the tin miners. I have just looked at the photos.

Starry Night is coming along, slowly. I will happily post it if I can find out a way of doing so from my iPad. I don't have a laptop or PC.

I'm more than happy if I have helped you along a little Makybe-Diva. Painting is such a relaxing thing to do regardless of the results. Since I retired there were times when I completed a painting a week especially during winter time. Think of Matisse who painted for as long as he could hold a brush and stand in front of an easel. When he became too infirm for that he created some of the most exquisite cut-outs imaginable.
I hope you too will get the bug and derive much pleasure from painting.

Hi M-D, only just seen your last post. No need to blush, would love to see your painting.

My sister in law who lives abroad is staying for a few days so I'm painting a flower picture for her to take back home. Will take a photo and post it when finished.

Ok, I'm going to post it.

Bear in mind this is my first attempt at a landscape and the first time using my inscribe pastels.

I'm unable to post it directly on here so you will have to copy and paste this link. Hope it works.

That's not bad for a first timer M-D. Happy You have everything in place and in proportion.
The only thing lacking is the energy Vincent put into the original. He achieved that by using short aggressive strokes of colour as if he were angrily jabbing at the canvas. He also gave the stars an orange centre and outlined the building shapes with thickish black lines. I've seen some of his paintings at Quai d'Orsay and it really is uncompromising black, aggressive and almost a trade mark.
Anyway, you can be rightly pleased with your work and I hope you do some more.

MD's effort

Looks like it's been done by a child, that's not me trying to be unkind.

I'm not very artistic though, so it might be good?

Kind regards, mate.

Thanks for the comments, guys. And thank you Crags for putting it on here for me Happy

Well yes, it does look a bit like the work of a 10 year old, I have to admit. But this is what I was copying....

So I was very pleased with the result. It was just to get me used to using soft pastels. Which I found incredibly messy.

My next effort will be with my Conte Pastel Pencils. Not sure what it will be yet. I will post it on here when I have done it.

In the meantime I will post one of the pencil sketches I mentioned earlier on the thread. I did them ages ago.

Finished the flower painting for my sister in law. This type of painting is very enjoyable to do as you can mix up rich, clean intense colour for the flowers which always looks gorgeous in watercolour on pristine white paper.

Thank you M-D.

If you try doing botanical style paintings yourself you will need to mix your own greens as, with one exception, factory made greens are too harsh. The exception is Hookers green which can be used as a base for mixing other green shades for leaf and stem.
