Nice pink and green too. I really like this one because of the tonal contrast as well as the complementary colours.
Tried to get some wobble into the bikes. Saw something similar this morning on my daily walk. It was a grandmother and granddaughter of about 5 years old. Grandmother walking and the little girl wobbling about on a little bike. Girl was dressed in a pretty pink like your flowers. |

This painting is a different way of using pastels. I first splashed on some pale washes of watercolour then added the darks with pastel. Finally fixed the pastel lines by running over them with a wet brush.

Thanks Foinavon, I love the bike painting
.Zorro's yellow painting is very striking. Looks like Audrey Hepburn. Zorro's pink and green also very lovely. Thanks for the tip about the card with a square cut into it, Foinavon. All tips greatly appreciated ![]() Well, my Derwent Pencil Wrap arrived today. I have put all my Conte Pastel pencils in it, in the order of the Conte colour chart and they look simply splendid! ![]() My paper is here too. It is lovely quality ![]() I will pick up my drawing board tomorrow from Argos. Then I am all set! I rather fancy having a bash at Starry Night, to start with. It is one of my favourite paintings And probaly a good one to have a play around with, just to bet used to using my Inscribe soft pastels. |

Sorry for typos. I'm very tired.

How is your painting/drawing coming along Diva?
You started anything yet? I've put my hand to a bit of painting. Waiting on them being passed by the mods. Quite proud of them tbh. ![]() |
|
By:
Despite all my enthusiastic postings I haven't yet started anything
![]() Looking forward to seeing your work, Aka ![]() Unfortunately as I have said earlier, I can't upload photos from my iPad to my Betfair picture gallery or I would post some pencil sketches I have done. |
|
By:
Just done a Google search and it might be because I use Safari. I will log into Betfair from Google. See if that makes a difference.
|
|
By:
No difference at all
![]() I hate Google with, its horrible blue bar at the top. I'm switching back to Safari. |

Thanks Makybe Diva. The picture is at the extreme of tonal contrast in order to depict light and darkness. If you look at the paintings of my all time favourite artist, Caravaggio, you will see how he manages to get so much light into his paintings, it's awesome. I once paid to visit Buckingham palace just so I could go and gawp at the real thing in the Royal collection. His depiction of textiles is marvellous, you can almost feel the texture of the finery worn by the figures.
You should be proud of your work Akabula, can't wait to see them. |

This is my garage wall. Deep Purple and 2 coats. I used a soft tipped Harris brush (4 inches only for better control)
Now waiting on Vel commenting on the vertical and horizontal lines of the bricks. ![]() |

The light in your painting is pretty awesome too, Foinavon.

Posted this elsewhere but in response to Aka's purple garage wall I give you Foin's tasteful garden ornament which I painted with a small bristle brush. Acrylic on cement.

I have started my pastel painting!
After much reading up of Starry Night and close study of the painting itself over the last couple of days, I came across this video on Youtube . http://youtu.be/N_cQ2Jpd894 Sorted! ![]() |

And CARL ANDRE of course, the bricky, seemingly the nephew of Tomorrow's World presenter, Raymond Baxter.

That pastel by Foinavon - the people in the rain - is excellent - it reminds me of Honore Daumier.
|

Was in two minds whether to post it Vel as it's a bit scribbled. It was an experiment and I was rushing trying to get the pastel on before the washes dried.
Perhaps I should do more of them.I have a more considered one somewhere where multiple colours of pastel were applied to dry washes. It doesn't have the same spontaneity but is a better drawing. If I can find it, I will post it. Had not heard of Daumier so googled him. Seems he was very prolific. ![]() |

Mentioned this one two days ago. Pastel over dry watercolour washes. It was a mistake to use cold pressed (Not) watercolour paper as it was the devil's job to apply the pastel. Pastel on wet watercolour is easy to apply regardless of paper type. You just have to be quick and accurate as mistakes can't be corrected. I will be doing more of those since Vel gave me encouragement.
